How did you ‘Christmas’ too early? I don’t bother with it but I agree that its been Christmas for far too long already in the shops.

Treatingmyself · 17/12/2025 20:19

What do you mean?

Hohohohohohoho2025 · 17/12/2025 20:19

Oh dear! What happened? I’m imagining a week of turkey dinners with roast potato and pigs in blankets.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 17/12/2025 20:22

Yeah, it’s been Christmas since Halloween ended. Like, the day after.

By the 25th of December people are either over it or hyped it up so much it feels disappointing.

I’m hiding from it this year.

Season 4 Whatever GIF by Friends

😄😄 no, ive had the tree up since mid November and i'm sick of looking at it

I'm thinking about how my flat will look when I put it all away

I've listened to all the christmas songs and no longer feel joy when I hear them. I had to switch over from radio one to Drake on Spotify to keep sane today

I've eaten some Roses and I feel disgusted by all the chocolate already

The only thing I havent done is have a roast dinner atp 😄

And that is why our tree & decorations don't go up until mid-Dec.🎄

All this putting them up straight after Halloween and taking them down Boxing day.🙄

Hohohohohohoho2025 · 17/12/2025 20:31

😂😂😂
Never mind. There is a week between no and Christmas day. Just avoid anything Christmasy for those days as much as possible. I recommend some summer songs.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 17/12/2025 20:35

We only got in the Christmas spirit a week ago! That’s when we put the tree up and painted our Christmas mugs. Because of that I am super excited for Christmas and all the things it brings.

Maybe you can write down all the things you have to look forward to and avoid everything else?

Pollqueen · 17/12/2025 20:36

Mines just starting. Put tree up today and it all starts this weekend, like Christmas from my childhood. The anticipation and build up is half the thrill of Christmas and that's what is missing nowadays

I agree. I hide from Christmas untill about the 15th December. Ive only just started leaving the Christmas songs on the radio when in the car and might watch a few Christmassy things on TV now to get me in the festive mood.

yoshiblue · 17/12/2025 20:41

I’m another one that has consciously put up the tree a little later this year and I’m planning to hold out until 12th night! First year we don’t have a child in primary school so it’s been easier to avoid getting the tree up on 1st Dec or earlier.

Life seems to be constantly rushing to the next thing….I have already seen Easter eggs in B&M and never noticed that early December before!

kirinm · 17/12/2025 20:44

Work and life has been so busy Christmas feels like it’s almost done and I haven’t felt festive once. I agree with a PP, stop doing anything festive / eating crap for a week and crack on on Christmas / Boxing Day!

dairydebris · 17/12/2025 20:48

I just happened to make a really good roast this weekend so now I cant be bothered either... roll on 26 Dec

PumpkinSpicedTea · 17/12/2025 20:56

I agree that Christmas in general starts too early. We just put our tree up on 14th. In summer all the shops had Autumn stuff then Christmas stuff started September. No wonder people are starting early too. I feel like the shops have been the earliest yet for each celebration.

FourChimneys · 17/12/2025 21:02

Christmas is low key here but starts quite late anyway. I am so over it lasting for weeks, it seems to have been in the shops since Halloween and is hard to ignore, especially the naff music.

I have some very non-Christmassy things planned for the 23rd and 24th, the 25th will have to take care of itself to a certain extent. I'm sure we will have adequate food.

I have always thought that people who put up lights and decorations too early must get sick of them early too. Perhaps start later next year OP?

RisingSunn · 17/12/2025 21:05

That’s why we only put the tree up yesterday and the rest of the decorations will go up tomorrow. A nice gradual build up!

SwedishEdith · 17/12/2025 21:05

This is why (except mince pies) you don't touch the Christmas food until Christmas Eve. Delayed gratification.

mondaytosunday · 17/12/2025 21:05

Well there you go. I love Christmas but even I’m sick of the tree after New Years and I’d take it down then if my kids wouldn’t kill me!
Next year wait till the first weekend in December (which is what we do) to put up the tree like any sensible person!

billiongulls · 17/12/2025 21:08

The later the tree goes up, the more Christmas is exciting, in my experience.

SeaAndStars · 17/12/2025 21:08

Pack it all away then and get your Easter decorations out.

Or have a really quiet week and start a new Christmas on 24th December.

I did this last year but then I crammed in so much cheese eating over the 3 days that I gave myself stomach ache. I’ve tried to rectify that this year but eating it all through December!

bangwhistle · 17/12/2025 21:54

it’s this new trend of Christmas starting in November. It’s nuts. Of course you’re sick of it. Anyone would be after that long! We decorated on Sunday and I had to drive around for an hour and a half to find a tree. Everywhere had sold out. When I asked they said that this year everyone bought trees earlier than usual. I always put my tree up around the 16th and I’ve never had to search so hard for a tree before. I’m feeling nicely Christmassy now. I think the lesson here is try not to get carried away by social media and hold out a bit longer. Play some Drake - his new album is great - and I bet your back listening to Last Christmas before the end of the weekend!

Run30 · 17/12/2025 21:57

I’ve peaked too soon before. I can only take the visual and aural clutter for so long before I need to come up for air.

So no tree, Christmas music or decorations until mid-December in this house.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/12/2025 22:00

Our tree (real) only went up 2 days ago. We had no mince pies or mulled wine until a few days ago. Carols on Classic make me feel Christmassy but they don’t start playing them until December or the start of Advent.

sittingonabeach · 17/12/2025 22:02

Why did you start so early?
