oh dear op, I’m not surprised, you’ve peaked too soon!
We got our tree Sunday just gone (14th?) and I’m already secretly excited for the day it will come down, the 27th 🫣
It does look and smell lovely and festive and cheerful with the colourful lights but we don’t have a massive front room and once everyone is in there on Christmas Day it’s just too much, sensory overload, and I’ll
be having a word with myself so I don’t launch it out the window to free up some space to sit down in the bay area!
We don’t buy ‘Christmas food’, we make what we want to eat but none of us are into the shop bought stuff, Christmas food shop is coming Monday so i’ll make sausage rolls
etc then.
We do love Christmas but keep it to a short window so it’s enjoyable but not too much.

This year Mumsnet seems to be nothing but people moaning about Christmas. I feel like I'm in the minority really enjoying it and looking forward to it. There's so much misery on here about it.

I'm absolutely loving it this year. Tree was up early and I've thoroughly enjoyed the whole of December.

crazycrofter · 18/12/2025 22:31

You have to do Christmas differently 🤣 Ignore the hype until 1.5-2 weeks before like I do, then vaguely start thinking about presents - buy a few maybe, but leave most til a week before. The pressure makes it fun and a bit of a challenge and it doesn’t drag on!

Put the tree up 1-5 days before Christmas (I vary depending on how busy I am but it’s not up yet!) Do your manic last minute shopping and wrapping on Christmas Eve, then you can relax from Christmas Day and really enjoy the downtime. Leave the tree up til early Feb as January is such a depressing month…

My Christmas starts after dark on Christmas Eve. Do the tree, then make mince pies, go to midnight mass, have a couple of Quality Street, and then fall into bed. The Christmas season lasts till twelfth night, when the tree and decorations come down. What really makes it special is that I keep the month before Christmas (Advent) as a fast - go veggie and avoid sweet treats. Those chocolates after midnight mass are the sweetest of the year. I have no patience with this premature ‘Christmas starts after bonfire night’ nonsense.

I like the proper 12 days of Christmas as well. I compromised this year - the tree went up on the shortest day. I'll probably take it down early as I'm another who likes to start afresh on new years day. But actually 6th Jan is not to far away and I have relatives overseas who celebrate that day, so we shall see!

MrsKeats · 23/12/2025 21:39

This why we don’t put the tree up till mid December.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 29/12/2025 14:29

Sorry I left the thread everyone

As much as I love christmas, I am definitely going to wait until December next year to put the tree up! 😄

The tree came down yesterday, along with the lights. Looking forward to hopwfully getting it all in the loft and out of bloody sight

Want a clean space for the new year 🥰

I love Christmas. Didn’t really start any earlier but I’m ready for 2026. 2025 was a shit year, I’m not sure 2026 will be any better.
