This is why (except mince pies) you don't touch the Christmas food until Christmas Eve. Delayed gratification.

Definitely! It also limits weight gain to a couple of pounds instead of half a stone. Step. away. from. the. Roses. tin.

autumn1610 · 18/12/2025 07:19

I feel the shops are over Christmas too 😅 went into 3 shops to find some Christmas tags, couldn’t find a pack of cards the other day and spring pjs on Tesco! Maybe next year don’t jump on this weird trend of Xmas trees in Nov. I refuse to listen to Xmas music until 1st Dec or watch Xmas films otherwise it gets boring as you found out!

soccermum10 · 18/12/2025 07:25

This is why our tree goes up first weekend of December - which was the 6th this year. Otherwise I would be fed up of it. I don't watch christmas films too early either and don't really listen to christmas songs unless one pops on the radio 🤷‍♀️ Christmas things started to appear in shops around August - which is just ridiculous

zaxxon · 18/12/2025 07:30

We haven't even bought our tree yet. Hopefully this weekend. It will probably be a sad, scraggy thing, like in the Charlie Brown movie, and we'll give it lots of love because it was the last to be picked

AgnesX · 18/12/2025 07:32

This year has been the earliest the tree and decs have been up in years (last week) because that's when the weekend fell. That was early enough.

It's no surprise that people who put their trees up early are fed up. It's when they start the performative " I've put everything away and it's only boxing day" it gets annoying.

Christmaseree · 18/12/2025 07:33

I semi start on 10th when I have my first party and it builds up from then. This year in January I wrote notes on things I could tweak for this Christmas especially regarding timings of events etc and that really helped. So instead of a fairly expensive trip to a European city early December I’ve used the money for activities just before and after Christmas and so on.

Apacketofbiscuitsaday · 18/12/2025 07:49

It's the same every year. People start way too early and it just takes the fun out of it. We don't have much patience for things anymore. Everything is so much easily available and instant so people want it now.

TheChicDreamer · 18/12/2025 08:03

I’m sure there was a thread last month about people that put their trees up to early and there was a lot of shouting and protesting that people should mind their own business and let them get on with their desire for instant gratification it.

This thread kind of proves a point. Op, perhaps join the rest of us next year by NOT partaking too early and adding to the ridiculous pressure!

frozendaisy · 18/12/2025 09:02

We are Team it’s not really started yet! (Actually we had a games night with neighbours, our teens, their mix of kids and laughed until it hurt we are keen for another).

Well a lot of presents have been bought, cards and presents have been sent. But the teenagers and H don’t finish until tomorrow, and it’s not (any) holiday without them so it would’ve been fucking weird if mum was prancing about since mid-November (best part of a school half term), putting up a tree in mid November whilst they were revising for mocks and it was still close to 20 degrees outside some days and then listened to Now that’s what I call Christmas album for 5 weeks. Almost a dead cert to make them wish it was over rather than looking forward to it as they are now.

But as people point out if you want to start Christmas in mid-November you hurt no one else and it’s your home to do what you want in. Personally we think it’s insane.

My advice, if you want to try and keep your Christmas spirit up until at least you know Christmas Day would be to try classicalFM and slow down, reflect and enjoy choirs singing carols with voices of angels. (And we are not religious st all but there is something goosebumpy about carols sung like that)

InSpainTheRain · 18/12/2025 09:04

You need to detox yourself from Christmas asap, then re-enter the Christmas phase on 24th December! Don't turn the tree lights on at all, only Drake and similar on Spotify with absolutely no radio, no more chocs til next week, certainly no mince pies! Can you give yourself some boring jobs and feel un-christmassy, then re-enter the Christmas phase next week?

I have a self imposed rule of no rich food or chocolate for a month before Christmas. It makes a Christmas food taste extra nice.

i don’t put the tree up until around the 15th and carols and Christmas songs don’t start until around the 20th. (Albeit they’re pumped out in shops).

Christmas to me is 24 Dec - 6 Jan.

Starlight1984 · 18/12/2025 09:31

Yep this is why I think everyone putting their tree and decorations up in November is absolutely stupid.

Starlight1984 · 18/12/2025 09:32

sittingonabeach · 17/12/2025 22:02

Why did you start so early?

Loads of people do these day. For fucking social media I presume 🙄

Yep. Blame the likes of Instagram and TikTok. Also people putting pumpkins out and Halloween decorations up in September. Or "cosy season" as it's now apparently called.

Fuck off 😂

JudgeBread · 18/12/2025 09:36

Lesson learned, don't start Christmas just because the shops have!

Fbfbfvfvv · 18/12/2025 09:38

I’m the opposite to you - the closer it gets to Christmas the more I feel a rising panic that it’s almost over. It hasn’t even reached the festivities yet, but it just feels too close and I then I know it’s back to the January drudge. Im not sure why I feel this way, but I think it’s because I consistently get the January blues.

BehindMovieScenes · 18/12/2025 09:40

Hardly started yet!

Presents bought, tree bought.

Nothing wrapped or up.

We will do it this weekend. Christmas music, a Baileys or two, fire, candles. Calm and Christmassy. Local low key, free Christmas wonderland event.

Family arriving next week.

Christmas for me is 23rd to twelfth night. My favourite is Christmas Eve, when everything is done, and the days between Christmas and NYE. Glorious!
Little to do, Christmas trips out, walks, food, fire, candles and lots of film and sifa time.
Relaxing, re-charging.

turkeyboots · 18/12/2025 09:47

I don't even have a tree yet. I refuse to do Christmas until school holidays start, just for this reason.

frozendaisy · 18/12/2025 09:53

Starlight1984 · 18/12/2025 09:32

This is the obvious assumption - certainly the image even just for neighbours “oh look we are just so into Christmas probably more than you guys”

except they are bored before it even gets to Christmas - wonder if there are TikToks or will be “oops look at me I peaked too soon” bearing in mind it’s the “cute ditzy look at me” which is the important bit

don’t worry the “new year new me” “I hate January at the gym all the newbies about who have no idea” posts are on the way (so predictable and all part of the “don’t you wish you were me” philosophy)

This is the Christmas equivalent of premature ejaculation.

Premature treejaculation

rafeal · 18/12/2025 10:02

You need to set some rules for yourself next year!

pizzaHeart · 18/12/2025 10:14

I sympathise OP, we once had Christmas tree for more then 2 months as per child’s request so it does take the cheer out of you.

I would do a quieter week in terms of concentrating on something not Christmassy e.g self care - doing masks, meditation, maybe walks somewhere less Christmassy e.g arboretum. Self care will take you naturally out of the house or at least to the bathroom, I guess you dont have decorations there. And then you will be ready with a new festive glow for 25th.

I often tend to overdid something in run up for Christmas like too much mince pies and Baileys ( and when I say too much it’s a lot!). So now I do notes on my phone for the next year reflecting on my experience 😔

Crikeyalmighty · 18/12/2025 10:38

Blimey when we lived in Copenhagen people had lights and trees up till mid Feb in many cases- definitely outside lights

Cleo65 · 18/12/2025 10:40

I was 'over-Christmased' - despite my best efforts to control & minimise the socialising aspect, my diary gave me The Fear - then fate stepped in & gifted me a raging UTI & everything has been cancelled.
I'm obviously not enjoying the UTI but the relief of not having to leave my cosy little home is almost worth it.
Next year I WILL be doing Christmas the way I want to & not succumbing to doing it the way everyone else wants me to do it.
I might start knitting myself a Grinch outfit now out of the ducks I do not give.

PluckyChancer · 18/12/2025 10:43

Put the tree up at the weekend but still haven’t finished decorating it yet. It’s only got lights on so far. 😂
