Thread 20 - the one with Christmas?

I'm taking a punt that this one might see us until Christmas. Will likely live to be proved wrong but let's go with the punt!

The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread here and share around the joy/referral perks.

@IlovePond Qwertee do gaming, film and TV T-shirts and hoodies so if you know of anything specific he likes you should be able to find something quirky and unique.

Would he be interested in a Lego set? DH likes the Star Wars and film based sets. Argos are normally good for Lego deals. MenKind site has lots of cool tech type gifts and they have a sale at the moment.

If you know of a specific anime, film or game he likes let us know and we might be able to track down something more to his taste.

I have to throw myself on your collective mercy as I've been so unwell with awful flu and have been struggling just to get through the days....then today I woke up feeling better and have realised its nearly Christmas! I have bought almost nothing after a strong start and it will all have to be online. Please can anyone help with!

My sister who likes fancy makeup, the gym, silver jewellery. £20 budget due to stupid family rules set by my parents which makes it all MUCH HARDER.

My brother who likes running and coffee. Ditto budget.

13 year old nephew who likes drama and singing. £15 budget for him (even worse)

10 year old nephew who likes football to the exclusion of all else. £15 budget.

Solace jewellery have had lots of sales on and they do really cool earrings with flat backs that are super comfy to sleep in. Prices start at about £17.

DB - runners armband phone holder? They are £8-12 on Amazon

13yr old - A but left field but there’s a few books that might be good “How to make a movie in 10 easy lessons”, “National Theatre: All about Theatre” or if he attends shows regularly there is a Theatre Lovers Journal where they can write about their trip. £7-10 on Amazon.

10yr old - Amazon have personalised water bottles with football shirts in their fave team colours for £13.99

watchuswreckthemic · 14/12/2025 11:53

@IlovePondwhat about some non tech gizmos like one of those credit card things that’s a bottle opener? Good water bottle?

Hi,

Does anyone have any ideas for what I could buy adult DS2 as a small pressie? He always just asks for money, (which I have already given him), but I want to get him an actual present, but don’t know what!

He won’t use any toiletries I might buy him, has zero interest in alcohol or food/chocolate/sweets or going to the cinema or fashion or aftershave or grooming products.

I’d bought him a small rucksack for his many travels but then he showed me one he’d just bought 🙀

He likes:
Tech - but has already bought himself every gadget going
Geeky/cute stuff - but I always get this wrong!
T-shirts/hoodies - but I have zero idea what he regards as cool - it’s always obscure stuff from computer games or anime, (but he has VERY specific tastes so whenever I try to get him something it’s the wrong thing)
Travelling abroad

I have tried asking him, but have got nowhere. I know he really does want something to open on Xmas Day, but I am at a loss!

Any suggestions? Thanks

Maybe a travel guide for somewhere he is going.
photo album / scrap book for photos if he ever prints them from his travels.

If he is going somewhere cold - hand warmers that are rechargeable with a cable.

Would he use a notebook with a picture of travel or somewhere he is going to make notes / record what he does ?

Would he use a good travel mug ?

Maybe one of those maps where you scratch off where you have been in the world?

PersisFord · 14/12/2025 12:20

Lovely ideas, thank you!

IlovePond · 14/12/2025 12:35

Thank you all so much for your ideas - lots of food for thought!

Thanks for the Qwertee reminder @SugarCookieMonster - he has ordered from there before so that is definitely a possibility. He does live at home, (too busy globetrotting to consider moving out 😹), so I might take some pictures of his more obscure t-shirts to see if I can identify where they come from re: anime, etc.

I’m quite ‘up’ on that sort of thing courtesy of older DS, but PondJunior is remarkably secretive about his likes/dislikes for reasons best known to himself!

Cable tie storage and/or something for his travels are also good ideas and yet another water bottle might stop him nicking mine!

I really do appreciate everyone’s help - thanks again x

handmademitlove · 14/12/2025 12:48

@IlovePond we have bought travel adapters / cable tidy kits / packing cubes before which went down well.

IlovePond · 14/12/2025 12:59

Ah, travel adapters @handmademitlove - thank you! He was moaning about not having one before he went on holiday last week. He probably bought one at the airport, but another wouldn’t do any harm!

I’m off to google best travel gifts!

Does he have a penknife? The Swiss army ones with scissors etc aren't cheap but really do last well. Also if he hasn't already got them , travel trousers which are quick drying or a travel towel. Mountain warehouse is normally really good for stuff like that

IlovePond · 14/12/2025 13:30

@FLOWERYFROCKY - travel trousers are a good call. I will look at MW. (I have a Swiss Army knife - very useful!)

I’m feeling very pleased with myself as I have a difficult to buy for young teen who is quite particular, but I just got him an Aeropress gift set including a bag of decaf coffee from Rave (seems quite a cool brand and likely to appear to teens) for only £30.55 delivered and that’s 1st class tracked (so hopefully 🤞) I won’t have to wait too long for delivery.

the link is below but pls note that i used someone’s referral to get it for that price, so have posted my referral code on the other board in case anyone else has a similarly difficult teen who may appreciate this.

ravecoffee.co.uk/products/aeropress-coffee-gift-set

and while I’m on the subject, he’s a bit of a tea afficianado too, so if anyone is buying for someone like that, I’ve been really pleased with the stuff we’ve bought him (and he’s bought himself) from Curious Tea. They’re a small company, but seem very nice. My son is autistic and has sent them some emails with “helpful comments and suggestions” (🤭) and they’ve been super kind and empathetic in their responses to him.

This travel adapter is really excellent. I am a frequent international traveller for work and this is essential kit for me.

Having ignore all the perfume/aftershave bargains I now need some help.

I thought I’d got a great bargain on Calvin Klein Eternity eau de toilette for men at £13 for 100ml on Amazon Black Friday.

Just went to wrap it and realised it is aftershave not eau de toilette (and not a spray bottle - which is what has been requested).

Any idea for best prices? I also need to get some nice smelly for 17 year old DS, so somewhere I could get both would be ideal. Currently google is overwhelming me.

IlovePond · 14/12/2025 14:47

Travel adapter ordered! I have already got him a power bank.

I’ve just remembered that DS likes a particular band - am not risking a T-shirt, but will buy a keyring as that is a low - cost, low-risk purchase.

I’m also going to buy him a water bottle from TKMaxx and will check out trousers in MW. I think I might risk a thermal top from Uniqlo - he’s just bought himself some of those but would probably like a spare. It’s his birthday soon too, so might save some of this for then.

It was so much easier when they were little and wrote their Xmas lists AND liked everything they were given.

Thanks again for all your help!
