Has anyone taste tested either; Cook, M&S or Waitrose - or can recommend another one??
It is for Christmas Day desert for those that don’t like Christmas pudding

I had the M&S £15 fresh cream one in my Ocado trolley, but decided (before even trying it!), that it must be overpriced, so panic bought an £8 fresh cream Tesco one.

Hope I’m not going to regret this decision… 😩

I’ve read Aldi’s is the best this year.

Nigella’s is a very easy make though if you want to DIY.

I make this one most years and it's really easy. Just make sure you have loads of baking paper as you need to do a bit of swift rolling! Nothing you can buy will taste as good as this.

Not quite a Yule log, but had the Arctic Colin the caterpillar frozen dessert today, and it was really nice.

That's good to know, we have one instead of a usual cake

Why don't people just make their own? Shop cake is never as nice as homemade! It's basically just a chocolate swiss roll jazzed up a bit to look festive. I always make the Mary Berry one- it is lush, and very easy! One year I added orange zest and it was so good 😊

Not true. I’m an ok cook but my chocolate sponge is dry and horrid.
Also shop poured chocolate is even and cracks slightly.

We’ve got the M&S gluten free one as well. Will report back!

Stickytoffeepuddingss · 24/12/2025 06:59

I won't get there today becaude of work but the M&S best ever looks delicious. Does anyone know if it would still be available at the weekend so I can serve it for NYE instead?

berlinbaby2025 · 24/12/2025 07:08

The M&S Best Ever is divine - you get what you pay for. It has ganache so none of that nasty buttercream crap most supermarkets use.

Yes @Stickytoffeepuddingss it should still be available this weekend - M&S never remove their Christmas foods until it all sells which it will because it all gets reduced to half price on the 27th.?

You can’t make it in advance. I may make one between Christmas and new year.

Stickytoffeepuddingss · 24/12/2025 08:00

Brilliant , thanks Berlin I will get there early on Saturday!

EleanorReally · 24/12/2025 08:32

i was going to get one from the coop as recommended above, but i have no room in the fridge

ScorchingEgg · 24/12/2025 08:40

The £15 M&S one is gorgeous - we’ve been eating it the last few days because we realised we would otherwise have too many desserts (shame!). Will definitely get again next year.

ExquisiteDressing · 24/12/2025 08:50

Oh good, we're cracking that M&S one open tonight.

HighburyHope · 24/12/2025 23:16

We had the M&S Best Ever one tonight and it was fab. Moist sponge, fresh cream, not too sweet.

goudacheese · 22/12/2025 15:48

I'm making the Nigella one but now wondering if I should have made Mary Berry's.

I've made the Nigella Yule log this afternoon. Buttercream inside, ganache outside. It's basically our Christmas cake. Appreciate not everyone has time but I really recommend the recipe.

EponymousEponine · 25/12/2025 00:24

Cannot believe nobody has mentioned the amazing Xmas Log Blog guy from social media! He's my go-to for all things yule log. Asda's was crowned the best this year 😍

Silverbirchleaf · 26/12/2025 11:12

We had the M and S £15 one and I can agree with the other reviews, it was delicious. Definitely can recommend.

AnotherEmma · 26/12/2025 15:42

The M&S one went down very well with all of us! I ate far too much of it

rainbowunicorn22 · 26/12/2025 18:11

Aldi's was not bad with a nice dollop of cream

ExquisiteDressing · 26/12/2025 18:54

Anothet thumbs up for M&S, it was amazing. Rich, dark, dense, creamy.

aWUBBAWUBBA · 26/12/2025 20:17

The gluten free M&S one is alright. Very, very dense, though - you need cream to loosen it all up a bit. I thought it must be full of dates but it isn’t! It’s gone down very well with my two resident cake testers, though!

Silverbirchleaf · 26/12/2025 21:00

The M and S one is lovely with Baileys icecream.

Horrorscope · 26/12/2025 21:19

Snowinsummer · 22/12/2025 22:20

I tried Tesco Finest Yule log. I found it disappointing- dry & too sweet.

Edited

I bought this and thought it was so bad I chucked it out.

JacknDiane · 26/12/2025 22:37

PP was correct, rhe lidl one was pretty dry
😐

LuckyCharmz · 26/12/2025 23:00

I love the nigella one too, with buttercream icing. So easy to make my teenager makes it! And it’s gluten free, win win.

I agree with this, we had it with ice cream which worked okay.
