IF you do a special breakfast for today, what do you have? My kids are teens but we have our friends children staying with us at the moment who are younger, due to a family emergency, and they cheered up when we mentioned we could do this.

We are having,

🎄 Pancakes shaped like snowmen, Xmas trees and Rudolf with smarties, chocolate chips, strawberries and blueberries for decoration

🎄 Snowman crumpets

🎄 Grapes and blueberries made into a Christmas tree

🎄 Banana and strawberries made into candy canes

🎄 Milk in bottles decorated to look like snowmen

🎄 Hot chocolate and marshmallows

🎄 Chocolate coins

🎄 Advent calendars (chocolate and Lego)

I decorated the dining table late last night so it looks very festive for them and our friends children’s elves are with us!

Just wondering what you’re doing because I’m nosy and maybe I can steal some ideas.

Never heard of it, never done it. But it does sound lovely. Hope you have a lovely morning with the children 😊

Rayna37 · 01/12/2025 06:37

This sounds lovely for them! I don’t always do special food, though am hoping I can persuade DS to have “mince pie porridge” (porridge with a spoon of mincemeat amongst the extras I add to the oats) but he’ll probably prefer toast! I do however swap to the Christmas tablecloth in the kitchen, get out the wreath and a selection of decorations and the Christmas books for him to come down to on 1st Dec with an advent calendar as we generally won’t have a tree at that point. It’s sort of like declaring Christmas “open”.

We really don’t go OTT generally at Christmas.

Iamthemoom · 01/12/2025 06:37

You sound absolutely lovely and will make a real difference to this difficult time for these children. Ignore all the negativity, some people just don’t have any Christmas spirit or magic in their hearts. I hope the kids absolutely lovely it and if you have time to sneak a picture of the candy cane fruit I think we’d all love to see it! Sounds amazing.

I’ve never heard of a special Dec 1st breakfast but I love the idea. A new tradition to start! Enjoy your morning OP.

Ocelotfeet27 · 01/12/2025 06:39

Ignore the miserable twats OP, they're either annoyed you're showing them up or scrooges. What a lovely thing you're doing.

Lostworlds · 01/12/2025 06:40

I think it sounds really lovely op and the fact you want to do it even more to make the children feel excited is very kind.

I have never done a 1st of December breakfast but decided yesterday to do something for my young children. I didn’t see a social media post and won’t be posting my breakfast online but just thought it was something to make the start of Christmas season feel all magical.

We are just doing fruit and pastries this morning with the advent calendars out. I’ve decorated the table and have new Christmas themed water bottles for the kids. This is the first year that we are kinda doing the elf so thought this would be a nice way to introduce it all.

I don’t really understand the hate from lots of the replies. If it’s not something you’ve done or are interested in then just move onto another thread, no need to be nasty for no reason.

whattheysay · 01/12/2025 06:44

It sounds a lovely thing for you to do for the children who are going through a hard time.

It’s not something I have ever done we only have a special breakfast on Christmas Day, but your idea for the children will make this situation for them a little easier to cope with.

All the miserable people on here sanctimoniously harping about too much sugar and too much of a faff… get over yourselves I don’t see you talking about how you’ve taken in young children in an emergency and helped to make their day brighter. What a bunch of twats.

OP you carry on, make the breakfast and make it as sparkly and special as you can for the children and give them the best day.

mixedpeel · 01/12/2025 06:45

i think it’s horrible when a perfectly innocent thread started in the appropriate board falls into so-called ‘trending’ so that it gets jumped on by people who think everything is AIBU.

mixedpeel · 01/12/2025 06:45

Edited as posted twice

ProfessorRizz · 01/12/2025 06:46

Thank you for doing something nice for these children, OP. They will remember how kind you were forever.

Peridoteage · 01/12/2025 06:46

We don't do anything particular on the 1st December.

We celebrate christmas in yule/midwinter feasting & gift giving sense, not a Christian/count down to the birth of Jesus sense, so we aren't fixated on particular dates.

We both work, no one has time for this on a school day.

hidinginthebathroomagain · 01/12/2025 06:49

That’s super cute. It sounds lovely.

begone25 · 01/12/2025 06:52

I’ve never done it but do wish I had a friend like you @ChristmasHasCome I hope it brings a small spark of joy for all of you ✨

Well, I’m stepping away from this thread for a while. I’m really shocked at the amount of horrible comments.

Thank you to everyone who was kind, it’s appreciated. To everyone else, try to think what others are going through and why you think it’s ok to make nasty comments and sly digs to someone who is not hurting anyone. Save your nastiness for someone who deserves it, because it’s not me.

I’m sure the children will enjoy it and it’ll distract them for a while which is all we care about.

I’m not sure why people are being dicks to you - what a load of miseries. This is on the Christmas board! I can’t imagine writing such mean comments to someone trying to do nice things for children. Enjoy your breakfast OP!

changingliketheseasons · 01/12/2025 06:53

That’s so sweet OP. Don’t be put off by some of the Grinches on here! My kids are big now but I still try and inject a bit of fun.

I’m starting to think we need a Christmas Grumpy Grinches thread. This is the second Christmas themed thread I’ve seen this morning that’s been spoiled by the grumpy ones.

Sartre · 01/12/2025 06:53

I used to when DC were small and I was at home but when I went back to work I didn’t have the time to commit so swapped it to a Christmas Eve breakfast. We always have snowman and Santa Claus pancakes.

Honestly just ignore the negative comments. I've always done a north pile themed breakfast but we have ours later in the month so usually the 23rd and the xmas table is set up by then and put out a breakfast buffet similar to what you have planned for today. I dont have young kids now as 2 are adults but the teenager still loves the north pole breakfast 😊

Thistlesg · 01/12/2025 06:56

The comments you’ve had are awful!

but yes, this is the first year I’ve done it. I’ve seen videos online about North Pole breakfasts for the 1st December and I’ve happily jumped on the bandwagon. Yes I work full time, I’m also a single parent and prepped most of it last night/got up extra early today but I love adding magic to my kids days, they’re only little once.

you sound lovely op

Phugs · 01/12/2025 07:01

We do this type of breakfast on one weekend in December and then put the trees up, so probably next weekend for us.
Probably a bit late to add ideas now but this is last years effort.
Hope you all have a lovely breakfast today, you are doing a lovely thing for children going through a difficult time and I’m sure they will always remember it x

Ahwelltoobad · 01/12/2025 07:05

Sounds lovely, especially given the circumstances
Wouldn't mind pics!

Bibanova · 01/12/2025 07:05

What a stupendous idea. I think 1st December is a really special day and have always prepared a get ready for Xmas present for my grandkids. It’s wrapped in love and your children are very lucky to have such a brilliant mum.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 01/12/2025 07:07

What a Great idea! I have never done it, but am thinking of starting now 🤣 Adult DC.

Special meals and traditions help us get through the dark days. We have a few. We do a clock change feast and deep cleaning, for example.

If I was worried about sugar/protein etc, I’d do oat and egg pancakes. Have a frozen yogurt festive shape on them, with berries.

But when you have DC struggling with an emergency situation, you do whatever you can manage.

@ChristmasHasCome I hope you have a good week as you help your friend and her family. 🙏🙏 that the emergency resolves well for you all.

DeafLeppard · 01/12/2025 07:09

We’ve just had the M&S star shaped waffles with the PB&J spread. I’m usually a bit of a Scrooge and don’t do Christmas before 15th Dec, but this year I relented.

And jolly nice they were too.

What a lovely thing to do for your friend's children OP. Your friend and her kids are lucky to have someone like you in their lives.

KeepPloddingOn4Ever · 01/12/2025 07:12

I think you sound like a wonderful friend and what a kind friend you are to do something so lovely for the children. I am shocked at how miserable people are on here! I hope you all enjoy it.
