IF you do a special breakfast for today, what do you have? My kids are teens but we have our friends children staying with us at the moment who are younger, due to a family emergency, and they cheered up when we mentioned we could do this.

We are having,

🎄 Pancakes shaped like snowmen, Xmas trees and Rudolf with smarties, chocolate chips, strawberries and blueberries for decoration

🎄 Snowman crumpets

🎄 Grapes and blueberries made into a Christmas tree

🎄 Banana and strawberries made into candy canes

🎄 Milk in bottles decorated to look like snowmen

🎄 Hot chocolate and marshmallows

🎄 Chocolate coins

🎄 Advent calendars (chocolate and Lego)

I decorated the dining table late last night so it looks very festive for them and our friends children’s elves are with us!

Just wondering what you’re doing because I’m nosy and maybe I can steal some ideas.

Good grief, what utterly miserable people to have responded so negatively to you OP. If it were the weekend and my kids were younger yes I’d likely do something similar. They are a bit too old now and are off to college and work.

Have a lovely time.

marmalade007 · 01/12/2025 06:13

Sounds lovely. Could you pls explain the fruit candy canes, is it like a fruit kebab? Well done you for being so kind.

I think some people from AIBU have got lost. This is the Christmas board and OP clearly starts with an IF.

Thanks. I’m feeling a bit attacked. 😬

I deliberately put this on the Xmas board and as you said I started with ‘IF’. I’m not saying anyone else should do this, I’m just asking if anyone else does it and what they do because I want to make it nice. If you don’t do it and don’t approve, please scroll past.

That sounds really nice OP, what a good idea!

Lovely thing to do, wish I had thought of it for my kids today!

I’m going to make my husband breakfast in bed, which I rarely do as I don’t have the time… if that counts?!

Treat yourself to a nice pancake too 😋

Talapia · 01/12/2025 06:21

It is very kind of you, I hope it will help take the children's minds off whatever it is they are going through.
The impact of small acts of kindness can last a lifetime.

How do you make candy cane fruit?

Allwillbeewell · 01/12/2025 06:21

We call it a North Pole Breakfast. The advent calendars are waiting on the table along with the Elf who is chilling in one of the chairs borrowed from our dolls house. Someone gave me those melting snowman biscuits from Pret so she's getting one of those along with her usual porridge on a Christmas plate with a mini cracker. Yours sounds lovely OP and what a wonderful thing to do for the children!

Well, I’m stepping away from this thread for a while. I’m really shocked at the amount of horrible comments.

Thank you to everyone who was kind, it’s appreciated. To everyone else, try to think what others are going through and why you think it’s ok to make nasty comments and sly digs to someone who is not hurting anyone. Save your nastiness for someone who deserves it, because it’s not me.

I’m sure the children will enjoy it and it’ll distract them for a while which is all we care about.

God the replies on here!

We do a special breakfast on December the 1st. Usually pancakes, but we add things like marshmallows and squirty cream. DD6 loves it.

Its one day of sugary breakfast people. Drop the pearls you're clutching!

Staringintothevoid616 · 01/12/2025 06:24

No, we have just about enough time for a bowl of Frosties..potentially time to open the advent calendar

NET145 · 01/12/2025 06:25

Put on some Christmas music … you’ve done everything else!

Ah, thank you. Thats such a lovely thing to say, especially after certain other ones. You have to wonder about humanity when trying to do something nice for 3 little children, away from home and their parents, who are feeling sad, is somehow twisted into a bad thing. Never mind, it says more about them than anything I’m doing but thank you for your kindness.

Why does doing something nice for kids have to involve so much sugar? As someone who struggles with a sugar “addiction” I don’t see what’s wrong with pointing that out.

Thulpelly · 01/12/2025 06:26

God this thread is miserable! Op it sounds lovely as it is. X

Yours sounds balanced.

Tangwystl · 01/12/2025 06:28

What a lovely thing to do OP, especially when the children are going through a tough time. My kids are all adults now, but they would have loved this (they probably still would!).
Ignore the miserable people on here - maybe it makes them feel better to share. You have to feel sorry for them really

HonestPenguin · 01/12/2025 06:29

Do you have any cilicon cake molds frozen greek yogurt in snow man shapes deccorated in fruit

pouridge with frozen bollueberries and colouer for magic pouridge
sandwiches cut in christmass shapes. Rudolf snacks of carrott

RacingAcrossTheSofa · 01/12/2025 06:30

Sounds lovely OP.

We normally do a special breakfast on the first day of the school Christmas holidays. Normally just pancakes and fruit, but I’ll set the table, put Christmassy tablecloth, plates, etc out.

TwoMintsLoose · 01/12/2025 06:30

I have not put nearly as much effort as you in.
1 slice of chocolate spread on toast, milk, yoghurt and they’ll have some fruit on way to school. This breakfast is highly unusual in our house so is special, but low effort.

I also put on a Christmassy table cloth last night…. Advent calendar’s on table….

replay2025 · 01/12/2025 06:31

OP I think it's a lovely that you are doing it for them. Ignore the haters. Hope things settle for the dc soon.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 01/12/2025 06:31

I’ve never heard of this, but it sounds wonderful, a lovely thing to do. Have a great time OP, wish I could come x

Cakeandcardio · 01/12/2025 06:31

Have a lovely breakfast OP. We don't do this but yours sounds lovely. What a kind thing to do. Mumsnet is full of oddballs who comment to tell you a breakfast is wrong but would be fine with their husband having lunch with another woman etc.

TutTutTutSigh · 01/12/2025 06:31

Ah now you've clarified no work and no school it makes sense!

I'd love to have had the time and energy to do things like this when teen dd was younger, I don't mean that snarkily.

You've done a nice thing for them!

ThestoriesIcouldtellyou · 01/12/2025 06:32

It's actually a really nice idea doing special breakfast on 1st December! We are having the extra pancakes I made yesterday in the toaster. Sunday is always our pancake day. But look what the elf brought today! In the presents is a Lego construction pack for each day to make a gingerbread house.

December 1st breakfast
