I’m absolutely out of ideas this year. He is 57. For once I’m completely stuck. I’m looking for inspiration.

He either wants me to donate to a specific charity or... a bbq. 🤣

He can't decide.

tarheelbaby · 30/11/2025 09:33

Usually our present to ourselves was a mini city break somewhere nearby during twixtmas. The DDs would go to his parents and that was their gift to us.
To open on Christmas Day:
voucher for restaurant(s) we like
marzipan fruits
small presents from DDs (socks? or similar)

billysboy · 30/11/2025 09:38

55 here
hoping for a cheese / hamper /board of any size from Paxton Whitfield
Any Hawkstone beer
some socks I know it’s mad but I would really like some for work
a new flask/ cup for coffee
a well chosen sweater
Box of normal chocolates

please no experience days out , novelty gifts

Mumofsoontobe3 · 30/11/2025 09:52

A watch, a glasses case and a pair of glasses he wanted for ages. He knows about the glasses and case as he got them early, doesn't know about the watch.

Rowgtfc72 · 30/11/2025 09:55

Bad Boy seats for the classic mini hes restoring ( second hand)

happytobemrsg · 30/11/2025 09:57

I’ve bought him:

Tottenham Hotspur bag he admired on another fan while at the Europa win parade
Tottenham retro shirt
Tottenham Europa win mug
NOMO Christmas chocolates
Only Fools Jolly Boys Outing board game. It’s on pre-order & I’m praying it’ll arrive on time
Chair or Swear Ikea card game (this was DS9’s idea & I think it’s brilliant!)

I’d love to buy him the Tottenham football newspaper book but it’s £50….

teaandtoastwouldbenice · 30/11/2025 10:01

Shirts for his new job
cologne
chocolate
a CD for his car of Nina Simone
Festive booze - Buck’s Fizz and mulled wine etc that he likes

theDudesmummy · 30/11/2025 11:08

DH and I don't buy each other presents, whether for Xmas, birthdays or anything else. Given that our money is completely pooled together, if we want something we just get it for ourselves. It would be silly and probably wasteful to buy somthing just because it is supposed to be a present. If there is something big we'll discuss it of course. This avoids a lot of stress.

Now DS (age 16) is a problem. He has everything he wants already so I never have any idea what to get him!

bleakmidwintering · 30/11/2025 11:31

Some really interesting ideas here. Thanks everyone. I’m keen on the marmalade idea, chocolate and maybe port. I can’t afford to book a holiday unfortunately.

A fancy jacket from a catalogue (it was going to be a surprise but annoyingly as we were looking at something for S1 he said "that's fun, isn't it" and then the stupid card payment system sent him a message EVEN THOUGH I'd said I was the cardholder and was in the middle of verifying it so he got to see how much I was spending from the catalogue😡)

A box of dark-version chocolates (I'm not keen on dark)

Might get a book as well, haven't finished thinking yet

MsSquiz · 30/11/2025 13:11

I was desperate as had no idea then he looked up and complained his jigsaw is on the way out. I was delighted and ordered him a DeWalt one whilst tutting and telling him he couldn't order himself one now just before Xmas and to wait until the sales if he got Xmas money.

gleeeba · 30/11/2025 21:26

Taylor Swift TTPD Hoodie

FurForksSake · 30/11/2025 21:28

Ok.

something you want - a circular saw, drill, impact driver and saw
something you need - a 3-4 season sleeping bag
something to wear - some north face T-shirts and a new rain jacket
something to read - not bought yet.

he then has a stocking
aftershave
shortbread
carabiners
waterproof electronic lighter
notebooks
pens he likes
bath stuff
socks
knitted booties
chocolate orange

i think that’s about it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/11/2025 21:40

Sheepskin slippers (mule type) from Celtic, his current ones are very worn.
Probably a cashmere or lambswool scarf, since the bastard moths have been at a favourite one.
Various stocking bits, mostly edibles, inc. packs of dried mango and apricots from Grape Tree.

randomgeneratedusername1 · 30/11/2025 22:01

I have apparently bought him some rather large car parts . Some tools. Some overalls. Some panelling and a generator 🤔 I will be given these in time for Christmas when I may stick a bow on them or something. DH is impossible this is the first yr he has actually agreed there are things he wants. I do usually get stock stuff like socks pants , t-shirts , smellies , sweets and chocs .

Livpool · 01/12/2025 13:08

Aftershave/cologne
PC game he asked for
Trainers
Drambuie
A couple of stocking fillers

PlumpHobbit · 01/12/2025 13:41

His birthday is in December, and hes very hard to buy for. Im also on maternity leave

Have gone for:

New Apple watch (hes ordered it in a deal, so im giving him money towards it as the main gift for combined xmas/birthday)

Lego Aston Martin to give him something nice to open xmas day, and we like doing them together. (If he won the lottery hed want an Aston Martin, this is the closest I can get to one!)

Mug with photos on "from" the baby

Magnet with the date of a football match we attended together that featured our favourite teams

Amazon voucher for a book he wants on kindle

Will then get a couple of sweeties/chocs as silly little things, maybe something "from" the baby for xmas, or I'll just do the sweets from him

I have NO idea what I want

Eta - just remembered ive ordered some free prints magnets, so may do those "from" the baby for xmas, cant remember what photos I chose

Em308 · 02/12/2025 19:33

His main gift is SAD light box. He struggles every year with the short days, although he takes high vit d tablets I thought the light box might help whilst trapped in his home office all day.

Ophy83 · 03/12/2025 20:55

A big set of Makita drill bits (he asked for this)
Tickets to a comedy night
Finisterre jumper
Chanel platinum egoiste
A picture of his home town by a local artist
Stocking fillers - socks, pants, foodie bits and bobs, shower gel etc

Nourishinghandcream · 03/12/2025 21:08

Have got mine a couple of Wasgij (jigsaws where you don't know the picture you are building), he loves them and I know they will keep him busy over the festive season.

Elmeux · 03/12/2025 21:14

Absolutely fuck all. I’m matching his energy this year

A Japanese kitchen knife, gadget for sharpening knifes & metal knife block - cooking is his thing. Some stuff from Kiehls, a book, chocolate orange, socks and a deodorant that supposedly stops shirts from being stained.

Oh What is this deodorant?
