Is there anything that replicates the taste and mouth feel of old Dairy Milk?

As in how dairy milk used to feel and taste, not dairy milk that is old
DH regularly laments old Dairy Milk, it really is his happy food! And he doesn’t have many vices, I would love to get him some for Christmas.
Thanks

It's still not as good as old dairy milk so might not quite hit the mark, but the Dairy Milk in Ireland has a different (nicer!) taste IMO. They also have some Ireland-only products like the Mint Crisp dairy milk.

Gnaw chocolate is nice and they do some great flavours. And I liked Tony's Chocolonely.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/11/2025 13:33

Aldi chocolate is gorgeous.

M&S do a dark milk chocolate that gives me the same hit as proper Dairy Milk used to. It's pricey though!

Another vote for M&S

Came to recommend this one as well.

I’ve found Cadbury Easter eggs taste like old recipe Dairy Milk as do the huge Dairy Milk bars that cost around a fiver, the small multipack bars taste completely different and are vile.

Justputsomeyoghurtonit · 28/11/2025 14:06

Love cocoa? Made by a Cadbury descendent. I'm sure they will have roughly an equivalent recipe.

I wouldn't say the Irish one tastes any better now.
We used to buy stacks of it when we went over. Once the foil went, so did the flavour.

DullAndUnconvincing · 28/11/2025 14:07

Tony’s - the milk one in the red wrapper - has a similar texture to the old dairy milk, and is also chunky

HoppityBun · 28/11/2025 14:17

Willy’s is the best dairy milk chocolate I’ve had. Creamy and not too sweet

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 28/11/2025 14:18

Another M&S convert here too!

PragmaticIsh · 28/11/2025 14:21

Weirdly the very basic Cadbury buttons easter eggs, for about £1, taste like dairy milk used to taste.

Cheerfulcharlie · 28/11/2025 16:56

Willies Cacao - Milk of the Stars or Milk of the Gods. They do not use Soya or palm oil etc like most other chocolatiers.

Minty25 · 28/11/2025 17:00

Had some dairy milk chunks in a Heroes tub recently and they tasted so bad. Oily and actually tasted mouldy. Has really put me off dairy milk.

ForkOnASausage · 28/11/2025 17:10

There is a fantastic dairy farmer (Concept Dairy) raising awareness of which products Cadburys has swapped out the cream for palm oil in. Standard Cadburys buttons, palm oil, both Caramilk and White buttons still have the cream. So they can make it without the greasy palm oil.

Same with the shitty "a glass and a half in every bar" still on the front of the large Dairy Milks, technically yes there is but they leave the protein in so they can still call it milk but remove the fat and replace it with palm oil. Shame on you Cadburys you have ruined it.

Glad to know there is an alternative, M&S I will be buying from you for that nostalgic taste.

I’ve been trying every different chocolate bar I come across for this very reason and have been disappointed. The best one I’ve found is Whittaker’s milk chocolate from New Zealand, it was recommended on an old post.
It melts in your mouth just like Cadbury’s used to. The taste is nice but obviously nothing is going to taste like Cadburys.
You can buy it in the UK and they have a discount for Black Friday.

Chocolate buttons and the little bars

jessycake · 28/11/2025 19:45

I’ve not found one yet 😢 my current favourite is Lindt classic recipe

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 28/11/2025 19:59

Giant buttons

T1mesAreHardForDreamers · 28/11/2025 20:00

It's the same with Galaxy too :( my partner also loves Cadburys and says it tastes so bad now, waxy texture and the taste of artificial sweetener.

I have a theory based on taste alone that the flakier (like Cadbury flakes and Galaxy ripples) products are still of the old recipe, or closer to it, maybe because in order to get that texture the crappier new recipes didn't work?

I'll be trying the M&S ones too, it's promising how the dark milk is described as fruity!

3luckystars · 29/11/2025 10:28

Isn’t it an absolute sin what has happened to cadburys chocolate.

I would pay more for it to be like it was. Way more.

Missey85 · 29/11/2025 10:35

Whittaker chocolate from new Zealand ❤️❤️ it's better than Cadbury's 😊

Caspianberg · 29/11/2025 10:45
