A christmas morning travel box

Ds (24) and his girlfriend are coming to us to celebrate the 24th in the evening (Danish Christmas) the idea is then to get up early on the 25th and drive the 3.5 hour trip to her parents home and celebrate British Christmas with them.

Usually we do stockings and big breakfast on the 25th however with them going off so early dh and I have decided to put together a christmas travel box for them and I am looking for ideas

So far we have
Bacon rolls (premade and heated up as they get ready to go)
Iced coffees
Peppermint sticks
Christmas cd (we are.checking if there is a cd in the car)
Mince pies
Silly christmas hat
Costa coffee voucher for stopping along the way
Perhaps a joke book
A cracker

Any other ideas. Im ok with some specific hia and hers as we want them to enjoy this and have a bit of a laugh with it as they drive.

I want them to feel loved and cared for and know we support their choice to split christmas like this

You could still do a small stocking if you wanted with a couple of things?
You sound lovely:)

Mushroomyum · 24/11/2025 07:59

Maybe a gift for her family?

CactusPat · 24/11/2025 08:02

Chocs or a selection box to eat en route
Bottle of fizz to drink when they arrive
Scarf or something cosy/festive to wear?
Travel mug each if they don’t have one

parietal · 24/11/2025 08:03

If this is the equivalent of a Christmas stocking, I’d add warm socks. Maybe gloves or a hat. Maybe a book. Not just things for the journey but a few extras.

Mushroomyum · 24/11/2025 08:06

Non alcoholic can of bucks fizz

SparklyCardigan · 24/11/2025 08:06

I'd just do the food and drink (bacon rolls, coffees and mince pies), the rest is a bit daft to be honest. If they're travelling at Christmas they'll have enough junk to cart about without you adding to it.

fishfingerbutty · 24/11/2025 08:28

Just the food and drink is enough. One of them will be driving, and it’s not a long journey.
It’s a lovely idea. Maybe a couple of Christmassy serviettes?

sashh · 24/11/2025 08:31

I don't think they need to bacon butties. They will be having a huge meal at some point.

Maybe cereal bars instead that they can eat or leave.

hattie43 · 24/11/2025 08:40

If just see them off with bacon rolls and coffee . You sound lovely and thoughtful .

It’s Christmas morning & they’ve got a 3+ hour car journey, you can’t just chuck in a couple of cereal bars and send them on their way 😄🤷🏻‍♀️

wtf?!!

ChristmasSparkles1 · 24/11/2025 08:52

This is so lovely.

Some nice mini bottles of fruit juice.

Inthesearch · 24/11/2025 08:58

I think this is a lovely idea, however I'd steer clear of too many non edible extras like the joke book. As a pp said one of them will be driving and it sounds like they will have a lot of bags and things with them. I'd go for some healthy/light snacks for if they are peckish after the sandwiches.
And as for the poster who said they won't want bacon butties when they'll be eating a huge meal later, I certainly like to eat a proper breakfast on Christmas morning. Imagine a cereal bar for breakfast on Christmas day 🤣

EdTeach · 24/11/2025 08:58

Christmas napkins! A box of mini pastries? I love those for a car journey. Hot coffee in a Thermos or a good travel mug each.

I wouldn’t bother with the CD, I would think they’re more likely to use a Spotify playlist or even just the radio. If they don’t already have it, a Spotify (or similar) premium gift subscription might be appreciated.

Justmadesourkraut · 24/11/2025 09:00

Sounds great. We used to do similar: I did smoked salmon baguettes instead of bacon butties - freshly cooked baguettes, but still nice to eat en route if they want to wait an hour before eating.

Yy to travel mugs for me, rather than iced coffee but you know what they like . . .

Wouldnt bother with the crackers if you have Christmas hats already but the rest sounds lovely.

deplorabelle · 24/11/2025 09:00

Tinsel/decorations for the car 😁

Theresalittlebitofwitchinyou · 24/11/2025 09:01

I think that’s one of the most genuinely lovely and supportive ideas I’ve ever read! What about some small portions of lovely Danish Christmas treats she could take to share with her family for her and some British treats for him (show they are merging). Maybe some socks/gloves/hats for a stocking vibe. Nice travel mugs.

OliveHenry · 24/11/2025 09:02

Cereal bars for breakfast on Christmas day? How utterly joyless :-(

ShaunaOfTheDead · 24/11/2025 09:05

Bacon rolls but freshly cooked, then wrapped in foil.
Or even better, a foil lined tub of freshly baked sausage rolls and some brown sauce for dipping.

His n her elf hats.

Fill their own travel mugs with drink of choice.

Job done

Randomchat · 24/11/2025 09:07

A thermal mug each with a hot drink for the journey, a Costa voucher to refill on the way and a box of snacks to keep them going sounds perfect.

I like the idea of some tinsel or decoration for the car. When we used to drive on Christmas Day with the kids we loved spotting cars with reindeer antlers or other things. So you're not only making your people happy, you're spreading the joy.

ResusciAnnie · 24/11/2025 09:07

That’s very cute. Some people are so fucking miserable.

If someone planned to make me a bacon butty and someone else talked them out of it, words would be had.

SeaBaseAlpha · 24/11/2025 09:23

Are Costas open on Christmas day? I'm not sure I would bother about the Costas voucher.

Enko · 24/11/2025 09:25

They live by her parents so they are driving "home" all they will have is a suitcase each and presents.

There will be a present for her parents whom we have met and whom are lovely

Love the idea of buxfizz and christmas napkins.

Christmas decs for the car is exactly the sort of things I was looking for

Iced coffeees as thats all his girlfriend drinks. They both have good travel mugs

Ds has asked for bacon rolls so that's what they will get. Smoked salmon may sound better but girlfriend is dairy intollerant so would have to just be smoked salmon no cream cheese.

I will not be sending my child off without breakfast. No self respecting Dane sends anyone off without food let alone their child

They will have a box of Danish cookies for sure but I wasnt thinking of that for the travel more a tupperware box.

I realise this is not everyones thing but it is what we have chosen to do.

Personally on the morning of the 25th I always love some cold sugared brown potatoes for breakfast 😂
