Ds (24) and his girlfriend are coming to us to celebrate the 24th in the evening (Danish Christmas) the idea is then to get up early on the 25th and drive the 3.5 hour trip to her parents home and celebrate British Christmas with them.

Usually we do stockings and big breakfast on the 25th however with them going off so early dh and I have decided to put together a christmas travel box for them and I am looking for ideas

So far we have
Bacon rolls (premade and heated up as they get ready to go)
Iced coffees
Peppermint sticks
Christmas cd (we are.checking if there is a cd in the car)
Mince pies
Silly christmas hat
Costa coffee voucher for stopping along the way
Perhaps a joke book
A cracker

Any other ideas. Im ok with some specific hia and hers as we want them to enjoy this and have a bit of a laugh with it as they drive.

I want them to feel loved and cared for and know we support their choice to split christmas like this

I agree with this. However they want to leave then to arrive in time for all her usual christmas traditions. This is their first year celebrating together previous 3 years they have spent apart. This year they have moved in together so I want to work with what they wish. This year its for each of them to experience the others christmas.

OP you sound so lovely! Having split christmases myself for years this is the kind of thing that would have meant so much from a MIL.

Bloody hell, are you suggesting they drive one handed???? Very dangerous and could get pulled over if the police witness this

So you never have a drink while you're driving, or change the radio... Or scratch your nose...?! As long as you're not eating a meal with a knife and fork then I think it's ok....

A cafe we used to stop at on long journeys have a roll called a driver's egg and bacon roll where the egg is fried until yoke is set so as not to drip on the driver's hands 🤪

Send festive napkins along with the food and drink. Cut the bacon into bite sized pieces for the rolls.
They will need to degrease their hands and wipe their chins.

They will have a Spotify playlist to play in the car. Or they can just listen to the radio. No need for a cd.

No need for the cracker or hats, etc.

Enjoy their company on Christmas Eve. Yes, Christmas morning will seem a bit flat when they leave, but try to enjoy the day regardless.

I'd just do the food and drink (bacon rolls, coffees and mince pies), the rest is a bit daft to be honest. If they're travelling at Christmas they'll have enough junk to cart about without you adding to it.

Aren’t you the Grinch !
