Oh wow! Did you work out that each other was on here from recognising posts or did you tell each other? Im so nosey but I find it lovely that people know each other in person on Mumsnet!

My fridge wont be that different to usual to be honest as theres only the 3 of us and DS only eats certain foods so there isn't much change. I remember liking the thread last year though!

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 19/12/2025 08:39

It’s so long ago @ILoveCatsAndKittensthat I am not entirely sure, we have both been about for a long time. I think I used to follow the pregnancy thread fluffy was on (being nosey not joining in). Then joined these Christmas threads.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/12/2025 08:53

I have no idea either. I think one of us must've mentioned being on here and we shared usernames. Then Why joined us on this thread.

@ILoveCatsAndKittens, I can't even begin to tell you how many pigs in blankets I've ordered for DS, as he won't eat roast meat. He has about 12 pigs instead!

Happy Birthday whydoesitalwayshappentome Xmas Grin

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 19/12/2025 10:57

Happy Birthday why Hope you have a lovely day 🎂

70 the annual Christmas fridge bun fight thread is a highlight for me, both for the things people buy that I wouldn't have thought of and the pious 'this is terrible, there are people with nothing' posters.

I think I may be the only poster here who does all the food shopping in person (aside from the turkey that's coming from a farmer friend who's been raising them).
I really enjoy it, there's something soothing about the reliable chaos that is food shopping the weekend before Christmas Xmas Grin

It's my last half day of work today so I'm doing admin and tying up loose ends as I'm not back until January.
Will be taking LO to soft play this afternoon then home for a relax, Christmas film and possibly, finally, the putting up the Christmas tree (just fluffing branches and putting together).

Plan is get it all prepped and decorate tomorrow.

Happy Birthday @whydoesitalwayshappentome!

I've just added clean fridge to my list. The cake is marzipanned and I'm finishing the wrapping this afternoon.

I'm excited for the fridge threads.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/12/2025 13:31

I just realised I hadn't commented on the fact that you were Whammed by Trevor Nelson, Magnolia!

His playlists have changed since my youth. 🤣

Are you still in Fluffy?

FurForksSake · 19/12/2025 18:29

I got whammed at Blenheim bloody palace waiting to start the light trail.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/12/2025 18:38

@Magnoliasunrise, no I was Whammed on 10 December at DD's school concert!

@FurForksSake, I was Whammed at a similar thing at Dunham Massey a few years ago!

I was pretty cross, for about a minute. The kids I think were already out. Dh does not play.

GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick · 19/12/2025 21:48

Of course he has a dressing gown of doom @NoWordForFluffy

Magnoliasunrise · 20/12/2025 06:51

5 (eek)

I'm tiptoeing round this morning as DC have friends sleeping over and I think they had a late one.

I managed to wrap the stocking presents last night - mainly chocolate. We have always filled the sacks and Father Christmas fills the stockings and used to leave a few big list presents but now they're older 😢Father Christmas just does the stocking chocolate (much eye rolling from DC) and all the rest of the presents are in the sack.

Bed change day today so I'm washing and drying the Christmas bedding in one day.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/12/2025 07:47

JingsMagnolia you're up early !

I'm doing all the bedding tomorrow as we have Half Price Electricity for 6 hours on a Sunday and it's the tumble drier that eats the power .

You are brave having DC mates on a sleepover Xmas Grin they do anything but sleep ! Chat, laugh, play daft YouTube videos , raid the cupboards ,(You can tell I've Been There Done That )

NoWordForFluffy · 20/12/2025 09:03

You were up early to me, 70, let alone Magnolia! I do tend to stay in bed much longer at the weekend though. It's my only hope in the week of achieving more than 7 hours' sleep in a night when I've been working during the week and have a 5.50 start. 🥱

Dog walk soon, then sorting the house for guests. Tidying and fixing things today. Cleaning on Monday.

I need to sort logistics for the parents getting to and from ours as well.

Things aren't going well . DS just informed me that he is no longer eating anything with palm oil (so thats most of his stocking) dishwasher just packed up and our repairman doesn't work Saturdays, leak under sink and push catch on a kitchen cupboard door just snapped so door is now annoyingly swinging open. Grrrrrrrrrr..........

TheWoollybacksWife · 20/12/2025 13:55

@Magnoliasunrisewe tend to avoid palm oil in chocolate as DH has a sensitivity. Aldi Choceur brand is palm oil free and I watched a FB reel that said that Toblerone was also palm oil free.

Aaargh Magnolia that's a bugger !
Can you get replacement chocolate for DS ?
Dishwasher - they never pick a good time do they ?
And leaks !
The cupboard door you need to make sure no-one cracks their head on it , that won't improve anyone's temper !

Hope you can get them fixed

NoWordForFluffy · 20/12/2025 15:21

I think the only blessing here is that it's only 20 Dec and not Christmas Eve!

I hope it all gets sorted, Magnolia.

I have wrapped DD presents .
DS will get a bank transfer and £10 in his Badly Wrapped Present From The Cats

Went out for a FOMO trip round the shops , they weren't too busy , dropped off some Charity shop things , bought chicken for DS .

Magnoliasunrise · 21/12/2025 06:52

4 (O.M.G.)

Thanks all for the luck and chocolate tips. I'll do an Aldi trip as I also read about the palm oil free Aldi chocs and toblerone a good shout.

I'm taking kids up North today so I'll get pampered by DM, I literally won't leave the sofa.

DIshwasher repairman coming tomorrow and DH will deal with it so fingers crossed when I get home I will have a working dishwasher. I told DH if it isn't fixed I might just stay at my mums for Christmas 😂

Well done all on your planning, buying, wrapping, cleaning, tidying, prepping, taxi driving and general all round fabulous organising. Now is definitely time to give yourselves a massive pat on the back.

Magnoliasunrise · 21/12/2025 06:57

PS. Almost embarrassed to say this given that I am on a Christmas thread and Christmas is my very favourite thing in the world ever but I have never had bread sauce as just don't like the sound of it so I am asking for thoughts on bread sauce - have I never lived or is Christmas dinner just fine without it?

NoWordForFluffy · 21/12/2025 07:17

Bread sauce = Xmas Envy <<< not envy

It's the texture. Not one for me!

OP posts:
NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 21/12/2025 09:54

Never done bread sauce here either. Just the idea makes me feel a bit 🤢
Am the same with cocktails etc that contain milk/cream.
I’ll stick with gravy and cranberry sauce I think!

the building work on my house is almost as done as it’s going to be this side of Christmas (it’ll be painted in the new year).
Having small final bits done Monday morning but yesterday we finally used the room and put the big tree up.
You can tell I couldn’t be bothered as it normally takes me hours but it went from tree bag to up, fluffed branches, lights and decorations in an hour and a half.
Ive skipped half the decs and LO is going through a testing boundaries phase and would 100% break some so that’s helped.

Unfortunately I am exactly where I said I wouldn’t be at this point in December. I haven’t quite finished my dad’s cross stitch card and I want to give it to him tomorrow.
I haven’t wrapped a single present for LO or DH.
I have family cards that I need to drop off today.
My house is a tip with boxes to go back in the attic and stuff just everywhere.

Today is all systems go. We’re going to a family thing in about half hour. Then will be doing the food shop and squeezing as much of the to do list in as possible before collapsing in to bed!
