Morning!

DH and DS1 are going to an all day karate competition. Ds2 is going to the Christmas fayre and then to the local latern parade with his auntie. I’m not up to either. I’m going to paint Christmas cards and watch a ccm or three and hope my mood improves.

NoWordForFluffy · 29/11/2025 10:43

Morning!

Sorry you had a rude awakening, Meeces. I hope your heart rate is now normal!

I think I've prolonged my hangover by having a couple of beers at home last night. I don't feel ill, but I am tired with a little headache.

I took the dog out, which was kill or cure really, as he wanted to run! I'm collecting the parents later as I have some baking to do so it's easier for them to come here so I can fulfil the seeing them this week, whilst also being productive!

@FurForksSake lantern parade sounds lovely! We used to have a tractor run in Liverpool for Alder Hey but sadly no longer able to run due to security and road safety. O used to find it rather magical and would always cry! We would always follow it live on YouTube.

@NoWordForFluffy I like that you're getting stuff done by getting the family to go to you, such a good idea!

DH has the dreaded d&v bug that's doing the rounds. Ive confined him to the bedroom, I dont want me and DS getting ill! Ive been scrubbing the bathroom, towels are all on a hot wash and got some more antibacterial spray whilst I was out this morning!

Swimming this morning, majority of the children were off so it was a good session as DS had a one to one today and she worked him hard!! Nipped to Greggs for a treat afterwards!

Not much christmassy things going on today, will probably watch a film later on and eat a mince pie!

TheWoollybacksWife · 29/11/2025 16:14

How exciting why!

I'm on the train back home after my London trip. Not much shopping but we had a lovely lunch and a nice cocktail. I think I'll be asleep in front of the tv this evening.

My last presents arrived yesterday so I've got a fortnight to everything wrapped before DS comes home from uni - along with doing an entire house clean and most of my food prep. No pressure 😅

We're doing Christmas things this weekend. Edinburgh today to go to the gardens where there's a Christmas Market. DD and DH went on one of the rides , high twirling one , not my cup of tea, I watched them. Then lunch, shopping, Inside No 9 , and a ghost walk. Totally knackered now . Gentle amble round shops tomorrow and tea .More shopping . Wish me luck . DD has her eye on things 😄

Coffee then I'm going to stagger into the shower.
It is noisy here at night, people shouting, traffic, sirens, now I can hear something being unloaded. We did know this though TBF, by the reviews , and I knew this bit of Glasgow from when I used to live here. .
And it Bally cold 😁gloves scarf and winter coat weather. I cannot remember the last time I wore gloves in London!

NoWordForFluffy · 30/11/2025 08:42

Where are you staying, 70? I know Glasgow quite well. I love it there (it's very similar to Liverpool).

I'm lounging in bed for now, before we take the dog out. We try to go as a family on a Sunday, despite the whinging from the kids!

Off Argyll Street Fluffy so really central location, near Queens Street, Central station and of course The Shops 😄. We fancied revisiting places and seeing what has changed. And stumbling back from the station in 10 minutes rather than train/bus/Uber has massive benefits

happytobemrsg · 30/11/2025 09:53

On Friday I bought the last of my Christmas presents (money towards a ring for my friend and Bluey Lego & a sky dancer for her two DDs). Tree & decorations went up Friday as well. DH has a few presents to wrap for his friends but I’ll probably end up doing it to get them out of the hallway!

We’re not hosting this year. I’ll be at a pub with family Christmas Eve, my sisters on Christmas Day, my MIL’s Boxing Day, my brothers Boxing Day evening & my mums NYD. So nothing really to arrange for that.

Need to think up ways of making Christmas Eve day something special as I’m not at work.

Magnoliasunrise · 30/11/2025 10:40

Enjoy your Glasgow trip 70

I did some online shopping last night after a couple of glasses of wine so apart from the DC I'm pretty much done. Will get their Christmas lists this evening (tradition that they write it and stick it on the window last day of November and Santas elves take it in the night even though they roll their eyes at me I still make them do it). DS always keeps me on my toes by putting something that has been discontinued or is extremely rare on it.

Decorating tree tonight.

Glennponder · 30/11/2025 11:01

Well.
I lied.
I did, in fact dance and drink at last nights event
everything hurts and I'm dying
So, just some washing and putting the Christmas Dec's up 🎄
First Sunday of Advent!

Glennponder · 30/11/2025 17:52

It's officially Advent 🙌

God, it's miserable out there today. Wet and windy. Not my favourite dog walking weather!

How's the hangover, @Glennponder? Hopefully only a one day affair!

Pinch Punch first of the month
I'm sure without even looking outside it is tipping down !

GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick · 01/12/2025 08:22

We spent the weekend putting my parents Christmas decorations up. Now I just need to do ours, can't really face it today because I have a stinking cold.

ProfessorIDareSay · 01/12/2025 08:28

Got the main tree up yesterday, still all the other house lights and decs to be done, and the small tree but already feeling much cosier.

Certainly need cosiness this morning, the wind woke me up last night even though I am mostly deaf! Wet and windy out there but dogs will still need walking later; hoping it settles down a little.

Glennponder · 01/12/2025 09:54

It was ok @NoWordForFluffy
Felt a but iffy around 2pm but it passed 😊

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/12/2025 10:14

I am travelling today and got tomorrow off as well to recover( not Hangovers but my aching old carcass being on a train for hours needs time to spring back).. Last night my poor legs and feet were aching from walking, we did a lot of steps over Saturday and Sunday. Had a hot bath and sleep so fine today . All sorts of trouble with trains due to the weather so we're on a much earlier one and need to pick up our connection.
Tomorrow I'll take DH to work , get a selection box for DS . He won't care that his Dec 1st Box will be late . DD will open all her Dec 1st bags when she gets home .

ChristmasSparkles1 · 01/12/2025 10:24

Any nice Christmas traditions from around the world?

I am in Germany and we have an Advent Wreath on the table, with four candles - one to light each advent.

Nisse as a friendly elf/troll. He is made of felt and has a long beard and a big hat. We don’t do elf on the shelf, but am tempted while DC is still in primary.

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 01/12/2025 11:27

Morning. We took part in our weird family 1st December tradition and had a family video call (LO & me, dsis and her dc along with my dad) at 7am so my dad could play everyone Christmas music and say happy advent calendar day Xmas Grin

Am ignoring SM today as mine is apparently a collection of North Pole breakfasts, elves, presents and elaborate advent calendar set ups which isn’t very me and also is something that would overwhelm Lo massively.
instead I’m Concentrating instead on the fact right now LO is oblivious and was beside himself excited with his Snowman picture calendar when he came downstairs.

Just about to stand in the rain to pick him up from school. Joy!

Glennponder · 01/12/2025 11:34

My dd2 and I make a solstice "alter" (candle and greenery from the garden) on 21st December to go on the mantelpiece
We all got an advent gift/calendar of some sort today
We have an advent candle

We have our own traditions of watching certain TV and films up to Christmas

Glennponder · 01/12/2025 12:52

Has anyone seen any reasonably priced mini decorated Christmas trees?
The prices seem insane this year!
I'm sure I got 2 for £20 last year?

Glennponder · 01/12/2025 17:16

Got 2 from the co op...
But no Baubles etc this year :(
Just a string of led lights.

NoWordForFluffy · 01/12/2025 19:15

My ones from last year are still alive, but DH needs to move them to the front of the house. I don't know if the lights will still work after a year outside!

We still need to put our star and reindeer lights up as well. I also got a rope light from Aldi which is coiled like a slinky and is a total bastard. Regretting that choice! Xmas Sad
