I don't know about anyone else but I find I struggle to think of gift ideas for myself (I have bday just after xmas so I get double trouble).

I've always found these threads quite helpful in sharing what others are getting for inspiration. I hope to maybe get a couple of these things if I'm lucky...

That's a good one - used to wear that in my 20s and got lots of comments.

Please report back - the enormous discount and all the weirdly formal 5 star reviews are a bit suspicious…

I bought them and sent them straight back, they are not noise cancelling in the sense of having white noise, and the sound quality was far inferior to my apple earbuds. The permanent offer price is suspicious!

My wish list is:

The LEGO Boutique Hotel
A framed poster of my favourite movie
Vinyl - specifically Tracy Chapman and Fleetwood Mac’s Tango in the Night
A Mason Pearson comb
Old Hollywood autobiographies (Old Hollywood is my special interest.)

(I won’t get most of these, obviously.)

socks1107 · 28/11/2025 20:50

A new belt
Some boots
thats all that’s on my list this year

Puppylucky · 28/11/2025 20:52

I haven't read the full thread but in case no one else has mentioned it once you're an adult or certainly over 40 you really don't need to specify your age when suggesting gifts - us over 50's really aren't that different to you!

reallyalurker · 28/11/2025 21:29

I know it's an older thread but I didn't see it at the time. My sister asked me for a list today and I struggled with it because really what I want are books and craft things, and I know she won't get me those (I did sneak one craft kit in the list below). We have a budget of £30 per person. I did ask chatgpt what it could suggest, giving it parameters, and it struggled - one of its suggestions was "a walk by the coast". Which would in fact be nice but I'm not sure is what my sister is looking for.

My list was:

  • Lush
  • Robert Dyas hot chocolate maker (would like the Hotel Chocolate one, but it's over budget by a lot)
  • Fun glasses case as the picture on mine has flaked off
  • Small thermal food container
  • Essential oils selection
  • A5 diary
  • A5 notebook
  • Duvet cover
  • Nice pens
  • Small saucepan with a lid
  • Cookbook (these don't seem to count as books in her mind)
  • Embroidery kit
  • Nice pens
  • Posh matches
  • Warm scarf, not wool

I don’t get why someone would ask you what you want then basically not get anything from the list.

Because they think they know better than you or they think you're a spendthrift who doesn't realise you can get better value?
This is my mum and I've lost the will to reason with her or understand her thought processes.

Sounds like my MIL. She would ask what our DD’s would like, so I would tell her, wouldn’t have a clue what they were or where to get them (despite giving clear instructions), I would then offer to get them and she could pay me back but no, she wanted to buy the presents so they usually ended up with something completely different

RollyPollyBatFace · 29/11/2025 16:11

@Puppylucky a woman after my own heart! I get so so bored of the casual ageism on here - and yeah, I know it’s not intentional sometimes

henlake7 · 29/11/2025 20:05

My list is
Hand cream (every year, and never enough!)
Cosy socks
New hot water bottle
Pretty thermal vests
Autobiography by Brian Blessed

I sound about 90 from that list but I'm actually 52. It's just my family only ever shop in about 2 places and never online so I have to think of what they can actually find.
Oh, and I have a big bag to open from Joanie Clothing from their Black Friday sale coz I have no problems buying myself Christmas presents!😄

happytobemrsg · 29/11/2025 20:59

I’m only getting surprises from DH & my best friend. I’d love a kindle (from DH), something Stranger Things related would be fun, I love fruit flavoured chocolate from Hotel Chocolate, pretty much anything from Oliver Bonas. Hoping for fluffy socks from MIL.

A weird list from me!

I have a few of these prints already but I'd like the Vosene one Punk Haus Print

This Roald Dahl Matilda book nook

This very cosy looking Oodie dressing gown

This Joe Browns boho velvet bag

This uttterly gorgeous Fair Isle jumper from Bosie

A new Mina Lima book for my collection - or ANY of the prints/accessories because they are ALL gorgeous!

Care Bears socks
Retro or 80s dollhouse items for my retro themed dollhouse
Any book from my wish list

A voucher for Six by Nico for any of their tasting menus

Wow your list is incredible

FurForksSake · 29/11/2025 21:21

@BarryKentPoet I’ve just bought a mina Lima for my sister. It was a bargain and it looks beautiful!

happytobemrsg · 29/11/2025 21:31

Well I’ve gone ahead and bought that Oodie dressing gown 🤦🏻‍♀️ there’s no-one left to buy for me so it’ll have to be a gift from me to me to wear Christmas morning ❤️

typicaltuesdaynight · 29/11/2025 21:31

A long hooded dressing gown. I work nightshift spend half my life sleeping
new slippers currently wearing crocs as my last pair feel apart
a book about alotment plantings I’m currently on a waiting list,I can still put to good use in my back garden

ilovesushi · 30/11/2025 11:25

I have an addition to my list - a jumper from Dale of Norway. Out of my price bracket but I love all of them. One would probably last a lifetime if you kept it away from moths.

Figgly · 04/12/2025 16:17

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 11/10/2025 13:51

I buy for my friend whose family just send money and who has an autistic son who doesn't buy her anything for Christmas at all. She is a Christmas lover but she has nobody to buy her anything as a 'surprise' at all, so I like to find her something she will love but wouldn't think to buy herself.

I'm getting some great ideas from here.

This is really lovely of you!
