I don't know about anyone else but I find I struggle to think of gift ideas for myself (I have bday just after xmas so I get double trouble).

I've always found these threads quite helpful in sharing what others are getting for inspiration. I hope to maybe get a couple of these things if I'm lucky...

Dont do presents for ourselves (me and husband)

It's exhausting getting all the gifts for the kids and family.

We are happy with a posh Xmas dinner and some fancy booze. Oh and cheese.

Hellogoodbyehowdoyoudo · 11/10/2025 22:11

I actually can't imagine making a Xmas list for myself.

We aren't poor by a far stretch. It just seems self indulgent, entitled and a bit weird. But each to their own.

Hellogoodbyehowdoyoudo · 11/10/2025 22:13

I remember the one year my sister in law text my husband stating "I've bought myself a bag, you can give me the money"

Needless to say, she had a wine bag and a card like everyone else. The entitlement!

Thank you! Awaiting your review tomorrow. Enjoy taxi life this evening

sorry got confused what thread I was on and thought you were talking about soundcore ones but they were recommended on the bargain thread

Decent aromatherapy candle (not bothered about brand as long as it's good)
Some new Birkies
Texturising hammer (indulgent work tool)
Japanese cleaver
Miller Harris Mineir perfume

That said, we don't actually exchange gifts as we don't need anything much. An imaginary gift list, if you will Grin

A box of chocolates, a nice dinner and a warm house …
anyone doing owt for charity?x

kennycat · 11/10/2025 23:11

i know this might be an unpopular answer but i genuinely want nothing that anyone can buy! i do not want another thing in my house.
i want to feel wanted, interesting, loved and appreciated. i feel none of these things and haven’t for years.
if anyone can wrap that and out it under the tree i’d be delighted.
do not give me any more and cream, chocolate, or cosy socks.

Beachhutgirl · 11/10/2025 23:20

I'd like something I haven't had to choose, buy and wrap up. I feel mean saying this, my Mun is very generous but can't any longer do any of these things, so I sort out my own presents (she pays so I don't really have anything to complain about)

The rest of the family just buy from Amazon wish lists.

Thisismynewname23 · 11/10/2025 23:42

I would love my weddings rings resizing a long stint on steroids means they haven’t fitted for a while, some lovely snuggly slippers maybe Ugg I’ve had a few pairs before and they are so comfy, some new silver stud earrings and some lovely dark chocolate gingers x

Caplin · 11/10/2025 23:59

Two best gifts I have received in my 40s…

a kitchen aid mixer. It is a thing of beauty and I use it all the time. Pride of place.

last year I got a bean to cup coffee machine. Amazing! I haven’t visited a coffee shop in months. I use it every day.

both are pretty spenny, but I asked for the mixer for years before DH relented!

This year I could do with some decent boots, maybe Dubarry or Bareback.

Neom and White Company are always welcome, as is nice gin.

Wow, but of course you aren’t judgemental at all.

I freaking love a list. Everyone gets what they need and what they want, no messing about, no shit gifts, no money wasted on stuff people won’t use.

Maybe you have too much money if waste doesn’t matter?

Ooh. I would like:

new dressing gown. Terry towelling in pale grey

lovely blanket in autumn colours , soft but not wool as I can’t bear wool

neom diffuser, the more expensive tortoiseshell glass one.

a lovely vase as I have lost several to DD’s Lego flowers.

I have a Neom diffuser like the tortoiseshell one but the Matcha green one and it is so beautiful. it gives a beautiful light,

RobertaFirmino · 12/10/2025 00:21

I have real problems with receiving gifts (unresolved trauma) so I'd like a charity goat or a women only latrine or even just a fiver to the foodbank. Not for altruistic reasons mind you, just so I can avoid feeling guilty and ungrateful for not liking a physical gift.

Ideal situation is a no present pact though. However, I do hope Santa brings you all at least one thing from your lists. Nobody is too old for Christmas gift excitement.

LucyLoo1972 · 12/10/2025 00:22

This thread is making me feel so sad. I would run around buying presents for everyone in my husbands family and he never bought me a gift. we dont have kids and my mum is dead and I dont have contact with my abusive father so essentially it means I dont get any presents. I dont know why my husband would be liek this but I eventually ended up having a terrible breakdown party from the stress of not feeling valued in the relationship.

Buy some for yourself! Years ago because we were both single my mum and I would buy gifts for each other. We would still get the wider family gifts, but not as much as they had partners and children to buy for them also. We really thought about what the other was into (Apart from the year she bought me pink padded coat hangers! WTF mum?! 😂) and we had similar tastes anyway. She died two years ago in December. I started buying myself gifts for under the tree since. I get what I want (Apart from having her back obviously.) and enjoy. I'd recommend it if no one else is getting you anything. (And even if they are but you know they'll be rubbish gifts for you.)
EDIT: Sorry it's late and I pressed 'Post' too soon. I hope you have recovered from your breakdown and do value yourself! Show yourself some self love this year. Aslo, if not already, my first ever LTB!

thank you kind person. I do buy myself things now but I feel my breakdown is not something I can ever recover from - it was so severe. and the worst thign is I blame myself for not dealing iwth the sources of stress and having boundaries in the marriage. it was only after the breakdown that I realised what id put up with. it sad I felt we had the perfect marriage befroe the breakdwon.

Snap - very tiny family and my parent "doesn't believe in Christmas" . I still get them things but often it's more clothes based now as otherwise they get huffy. I haven't had a present from a parent since I was about 21 when my mum got ill.

I have a teen but don't see the point in giving her £ to spend on me and she is ND so hates shopping. I usually get at least 1 present from friends, or a meal out if they club together which is what I really look forward to. Most of us are single parents so money is tight and spending time together what we all enjoy.

its lovely your friends get you a present. im just feeling sorry for myself because my whole life collapsed when I had this breakdwon and id worked so hard ot get my PhD and then it uncovered so many problems in my marriage. I hope you enjoy your meal out!

This is so MN Grin The shoehorning of 'we're NOT POOR!' and the ridiculous rush to judgment followed by the pass ag 'but whatevs.'

Classic stuff.
