What cheap afterthought gift has ended up a massive hit?!

For us, it's two 'mummy bunnies' who have babies that appear in their toy hutch (some weird mechanism where they drop down from the roof). They were mega reduced on Amazon last week so I bought one for each DD, even though it is really tat and I try to avoid tat mainly.

Well, the absolute amazement and joy when DD1 checked her hutch to find four babies in it. She's been playing with them for 30 mins now. DD2 about to be awoken from a nap and will see what she makes of it.

Anyone else had some surprise hits?

A slinky. I randomly put it in my sons stocking and he's played with it more than his new laptop lol.

Torturedsoul · 25/12/2024 16:09

Slime. £2.50 bloody slime from tesco to stop being doing a bigger twitch 🤣

lorisparkle · 25/12/2024 16:12

Not particularly cheap but a surprise hit - One year my teenage boys could not decide what they wanted so I bought each of them a coverless duvet. They all loved them and took them to the grandparents house on Boxing Day. In fact they all still love them now.

SweepTheHalls · 25/12/2024 16:12

The airplane guns from Amazon or tic toc Shop and packets of blue tac!

Dinodrivingacar · 25/12/2024 16:14

A recipe book that you write your own recipes in for dd2s, she is made up with it and has been writing down loads of recipes.

Whatabouthow · 25/12/2024 16:32

Aeroplane guns here too. I'm about to order a load more for every birthday party this year...

Chairmanmeoow · 25/12/2024 16:32

A whoopie cushion. 85p well spent!

Mashroom · 25/12/2024 16:35

Not this year but my kids love the movie Castaway and I got them the Wilson’s ball with the printed face on Amazon and to this day they adore it

HEC2746 · 25/12/2024 16:41

A B&M Magic 8 ball

A pencil sharpener, the desk type one with a handle has been declared the almost best present of the day. All pencils in the house have been sharpened more than once and it's definitely been most played with.

Depends what you mean by cheap?

I bought DD1 a £25 air fryer from Asda at 630pm yesterday as an afterthought and she's over the moon 😊

modgepodge · 25/12/2024 16:43

A bath bomb making kit I found in a charity shop for £3 😂 apparently far better than the £50 Lego set she requested and got.

Puffalicious · 25/12/2024 16:48

A Fart Box that you plant behind something & you activate with remote control- £4.99 in Home Bargains, been played with more than the Switch games/ VR headset/requested board games 🙈

shockeditellyou · 25/12/2024 17:01

Random snacks from the Korean supermarket where we have no idea what they are.

RubyRobin1 · 25/12/2024 17:17

Shower whip - DD says this is her favourite gift, even though she liked all the others. I’ll know next year… 🤪

leftorrightnow · 25/12/2024 17:20

A 100 pct synthetic very soft blanket of outragesly bad quality which DD randomly said she’d like from the supermarket. She’s been dragging it around like a cape, used it for sliding down a mattress on the stairs and slept with it.

MissRachelismycoparent · 25/12/2024 17:22

Goal keeper gloves. Panic ordered last week for £6 and he tried to eat his Christmas dinner wearing them. Currently got them on whilst in his pyjamas. Far more exciting than the hundred of pounds of other stuff he got

Cyclingalong · 25/12/2024 17:24

Marvel curly straws from Poundland.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 25/12/2024 17:27

A reduced (already cheap) Sherpa blanket from Primark for DC2. Only bought it because DC1 had one big parcel alongside stocking presents and we needed something to balance it. It's been wrapped around them all day.

TicTac80 · 25/12/2024 17:27

A jar of biscoff spread, some pritt stick tubes and some dry wipe board markers!!! The kids did have other pressies too, but they loved these!

hopelessatthinkingupusernames · 25/12/2024 17:27

Dragon egg with an articulating dragon inside - both kids have loved them and they cost a few quid each!

I bloody love my air fryer so I don't blame her. I'm only doing today's dinner in the big oven because everything won't fit otherwise! It's saved so much time and money - one of the best kitchen gadgets I've bought.

Bogginsthe3rd · 25/12/2024 17:29

DH bought me an amazing gold and silver bracelet with little gems between the links. I know it isn't my main present but I already adore it. So sweet !

HornyHornersPinger · 25/12/2024 17:30

Well, the 'little live pets mama bunny and babies' you mention at £50+ was meant to be one of the bigger presents, it's not yet been touched in favour of a cheap RC stunt car that's now been recharged twice!

cheesychipsontheoche · 25/12/2024 17:35

A gymnastics bar which was cheap off TikTok shop so I didn't think would be great but DH built it earlier and DD has been hanging off I since. It seems solid and folds up so I'm happy and she's delighted
