Thought it would be nice to share what's made Christmas lovely for you this year?

My favourite moment hasn't arrived yet, but soon will! My son has had a tough year. Has had a rough year at school, he's only 6, but had found joy in bmxing. He's really good at it but feels really self conscious because he has to borrow an old bike from the club. I don't have much money and haven't been able to get him a bike. He got loads of bmx clothes for Christmas and hasn't taken them off. He said he looks 'like the other kids now, and all he needs to do is save his money to get the race bike he wants'. To add, the other kids and parents are wonderful and couldn't care less what he is wearing or what bike he is riding.

The bike however is waiting for him at my parent's house. Took me a long time to save for it. Just cannot wait to see his face. He's already saved £50 of his birthday money towards it that he refuses to spend!

I know it is a material thing but I'm just so happy to have such a lovely child that didn't expect to get a bike and is so determined to save his money to get it. It's hard being a lone parent with little money and a ND child with an expensive hobby!

Anyone want to share any Christmas loveliness? I find Christmas quite hard emotionally so could use a happy thread.

Oh my, this is the loveliest thing I've read in a long time, happy Christmas to you and your lovely boy 🥰🥹
I don't have anything specific, just that it is our year at home just the four of us and I love the quiet coziness of it all 🥰

My girls are all adults now and we don't have any grandchildren, but I looked out of our window this morning to see three children driving around our Square in mini tractors having a fabulous time. It was so lovely to see as I feel Christmas is so much about children.

SwordToFlamethrower · 25/12/2024 13:00

We don't do Christmas, so today is a wonderful play day with our 2 year old. We've painted nails, sang songs, played with her cars. She's eaten 3 oranges too.

Just a lovely family day of peace

My youngest bought me the biggest bag of bird feed ever. He must have carried/dragged it home from the pet shop.

I've had to do an exceptional amount of resting this year and my bird feeders have brought alot of entertainment, so it's gift that is full of thought even if unexpected!

Seeing my daughter’s face when she realised we are going to get her the long begged for pet in January. Pure Christmas joy 🥹

Sitting outside at 7:45 this morning with a cup of tea, watching the sun rise and listening to the dawn chorus and the church bells ringing.

Its been lovely so far. Just the 4 of us and the cat lol MIL is popping over just now 🙂 DS2 (11) did say that the best present this year is his family. He has a lot of friends whose mum and dad's are not together and one lives with his nana. My heart swelled 🫶🫶

My foster child who has never really experienced Christmas asked me if we were a family

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 25/12/2024 13:10

My eldest wouldn't even look at his stocking until his brother woke up. It was

They're being twats now, though.

FrogOnAYuleLog · 25/12/2024 13:11

Kids super happy to receive their presents - DS2 gasped with delight at a spinning plate (like from the circus) 😄 and DS1’s newly obsessed with this NeeDoh. Simple pleasures!

I dressed my pony up in tinsel and went for a ride around the village this morning. There weren't many people out and about but those who were out were really cheerful and enjoyed seeing her.

My DS is adopted and came home at 13 months old so absolutely doesn’t remember me not being there. But he told
me this morning about the Christmas he wished for me and that’s when I came 🥹

This is wonderful. I remember stuff like this from when I was a child! Mainly a tractor that used to be driven around covered in lights. Lovely.

You must come back and update us with how he received the bike!

Spooky2000 · 25/12/2024 13:18

For me it's been prepping my Xmas dinner. No drama, no resentment that I'm doing all the work for both of us whilst he's in the pub 🙄😏No crappy presents to fake happiness at. Just me and the dog ❤

Op, please come back and tell us about your DS's reaction when he sees the bike! That's a lovely post, brought a tear to my eye.

Special moments for me - loads, but mostly the relief I have that my DF is safe and having a nice first Christmas in his care home surrounded by wonderful people. DB and DN with him today.

coldscottishmum · 25/12/2024 13:21

I love this thread! Thank you to all who have shared so far it’s so heart warming. 🩷
My autistic 5 year old became a big brother earlier in the year, this morning when he came down stairs he screamed ‘oh my god look baby brother presents for me and you!’ Baby is 8 months old and he was dragging presents up to the baby, taking his hands and helping him rip it open. Every present opening was met with ‘and baby too’. He opened all the babies presents and kept saying he couldn’t wait to play with the baby ‘with this’. It was incredible. His main present was such a huge hit and worth every penny and every bit of stress.

Pyjamatimenow · 25/12/2024 13:23

My eldest dd 11 said to me last night ‘This is the best Christmas Eve, I know I say this every year but it is’. I was so pleased!
