Thought it would be nice to share what's made Christmas lovely for you this year?

My favourite moment hasn't arrived yet, but soon will! My son has had a tough year. Has had a rough year at school, he's only 6, but had found joy in bmxing. He's really good at it but feels really self conscious because he has to borrow an old bike from the club. I don't have much money and haven't been able to get him a bike. He got loads of bmx clothes for Christmas and hasn't taken them off. He said he looks 'like the other kids now, and all he needs to do is save his money to get the race bike he wants'. To add, the other kids and parents are wonderful and couldn't care less what he is wearing or what bike he is riding.

The bike however is waiting for him at my parent's house. Took me a long time to save for it. Just cannot wait to see his face. He's already saved £50 of his birthday money towards it that he refuses to spend!

I know it is a material thing but I'm just so happy to have such a lovely child that didn't expect to get a bike and is so determined to save his money to get it. It's hard being a lone parent with little money and a ND child with an expensive hobby!

Anyone want to share any Christmas loveliness? I find Christmas quite hard emotionally so could use a happy thread.

Have two teenage DD's. Was a bit worried the magic wouldn't be there this year as they are older but actually the complete opposite. Me and DH got a lie in until 9 when they woke up. They were both so excited about their Christmas presents and so grateful and happy. We have all sat at the table and had a wonderful Christmas dinner together and are now all snuggled on the sofa together.

Feel so lucky to have my lovely little family. People often say enjoy Christmas whilst they are young, but actually, the magic has well and truly been about this year. Cookies still left out for Santa (we haven't and never will have the 'chat') no one is over tired, grouchy or too young to understand/ need routine and everyone understands the effort that goes into Christmas.

I'm really poorly but struggled through and was up for presents and made the dinner with help from DP who is also feeling grotty. We both went for a lie down after dinner, got up to an immaculate kitchen, DDs had absolutely blitzed it! Also hoovered right through downstairs and walked the dog! Such a lovely moment realising what lovely girls we have

My daughter is 3 so this is her first year with a real sense of understanding of Christmas. She visited Father Christmas at the Garden Centre earlier in the month and she very politely asked him for two cuddly toys (specific animals she likes).

They were both poking their heads out of her stocking this morning and she stumbled into our bedroom this morning, hair sticking up everywhere with a sleepy but delighted little smile on her face saying 'Look what Father Christmas has put in my stocking'. It was a very magical little moment for DH and I after a tough year.

Has he seen the bike yet?

He has. He said 'we have to go out on it right now' and just screamed thank you a million or so times🥹🥹🥹

A few days before Christmas my young adult DS asked if a friend of his could stay for Christmas as he had nowhere to go. Tonight the friend said he had had a brilliant day. Loved the cooking, the calm, and said the stocking we did for him was really thoughtful. He has been so sweet - helping wash up all the time. It's been lovely having him around and he is so enthusiastic. I was worried he'd feel a bit sad, but he seems genuinely happy.

Citygirlrurallife · 25/12/2024 23:58

Oh these stories are really lovely

my best moment was my family (parents, brother, sister-in-law, DH and my teens) all playing silly games once the little niece and nephew were in bed. As another PP said, it’s so nice having older kids now, the magic is different but having them properly involved is just wonderful

ErinAoife · 26/12/2024 00:25

Spend Christmas with my kids at my friend family. We had a lovely dinner and play board game for 6 hours. Had a great time. I cannot spend Christmas with my family as they are abroad because ex husband won't allow the kids to go.

mamaduckbone · 26/12/2024 00:28

Some lovely moments here.

My 19yo and 15yo ds have both been wonderful today - thankful, helpful and affectionate. I find it hard not having the 'magic' of little ones in the run up to Christmas but today has been absolutely lovely.

Also, seeing ds15 playing a daft game with his 20yo step-cousin and letting her give him a big hug (very few people get hugs from him - he's not good at physical affection). They've been such good pals ever since she joined the family when ds was 3, and I love to see how well they still get on.

Watching my little ones dancing and singing to Christmas music I just wanted to freeze time.

These are such lovely stories of your day. Merry Christmas everyone.

NotaCoolMum · 26/12/2024 01:54

My favourite moment was standing alone in my parents kitchen with my 17 year old son who gave me a really long hug and told me I was an amazing mother, hard working, supportive and he’s proud of me. For context I’m a single mum and have had a shit year so that was really lovely to hear.

Crumpetandcake · 26/12/2024 06:37

What lovely Christmas stories you all have.

My 2.5 year old has just started to understand Christmas and it’s magical. My favourite bits have been

  • Taking him Christmas shopping and him choosing a box of tea for his nursery teacher because he recognized it from her classroom and ‘dis is what Miss Abbie like to drink’. It was so thoughtful and sweet (I also got her a proper present to go with it 😂).
  • Him playing with his baby sister and taking her all the different presents to show her how they work, he kept saying ‘I playing with my sister to keep her happy’ (she’s 7 months and adores him).
  • Watching Arthur Christmas there’s a line where the main character says ‘Santa is the best man in the whole world’. He looked at my husband and said ‘daddy, you my best man in the whole world’ followed by ‘you my best mummy and you my best baby’. I might have had a little cry because it was so cute.

You did a lovely thing for your son’s friend. I was invited by a friend’s family over Christmas in the same situation, and it made me feel good all year.

Our little man is just turned 3 and came home to us by adoption six weeks ago. He has done amazing today, loved Santa having eaten the mince pie, opened his gifts all full of wonder, and it's honestly been the lazy but loving family Christmas we've waited over a decade for.

So lovely reading these stories. Merry Christmas!

😭😭😭 how wonderful.

So many of these replies are melting my heart, too many to reply to individually but they’ve all been wonderful to read so thanks everyone who has contributed.

That is the cutest sweetest thing I’ve ever read xx

My 9 year old who has been in hospital for 296 days after battling septic shock, cancer and intestinal failure is well enough to be at home for the day.

As we approached the house, he looked at me with a smile and said “Mummy, I’m in my world again”. 😊

Aw wee pet. I hope everyone complaining about inconsequential nonsense reads about the courageous young boy fighting his health battles without complaint. I hope your son continues to improve and will be home full time soon.

Lafee · 27/12/2024 03:09

This Christmas marks five years of serious illness for my dearest darling OH.
He's gone thru nine surgeries in four and a half years.
He's been (and still is) so brave, despite pain every single day, and such a horrible affect on his mental health.
I nearly lost him before I got him to hospital all those years ago.....
Christmas Day felt like a miracle, because hopefully he's had his final op'...
We opened gifts together and each unwrapping brought joy, and so much laughter.
I'm not even sure what was funny or why, maybe it was just the relief of having him home and at last, he's on the last phase of his recovery.
Still a long way to go, but at last he's feeling excitement at the thought of future plans... plans we dared not dream of in the worst times.
I've loved reading about the joy the little ones have brought, and it's all wonderful.
I can appreciate the joy of others much more now that my Christmas wishes are beginning to see light.
I hope I don't sound selfish... I've enjoyed past Christmases that were all about the children... I thought that was the best of my Christmas joy done.
I was wrong, being able to celebrate the chance of my kind loving man, having hope at last on his horizon, has me so happy and grateful for his second chance at life.

Merry Christmas to all, I hope 2025 brings more joy than you thought possible.

TheTresMarias · 27/12/2024 04:12

We had a simple Christmas celebration, but we are truly thankful this year. Our biggest joy has been welcoming our newest family member, and we’re now a family of five. It’s been a wonderful, memorable Christmas for us, filled with love and gratitude! 💚💚💚

I teared up reading this Op. What a lovely child. You are truly blessed

Openmouthinsertfood · 21/02/2025 19:56

I've been missing Christmas lately so have been going over this part of the forum to give me a Christmas fix. Not many happy/festive threads so far, then I found this one. It has lifted me right up reading of so many brave, loving, and heartfelt posts. I hope you are all doing well still, and thank you for sharing, and the OP for starting this thread. I've read it all through and it's one of the most loveliest threads I have read in a long time. Best wishes to you all. ❤

Every Christmas eve for the past 20 years, we watch A Muppets Christmas Carol. Christmas begins at that point!
