Thought it would be nice to share what's made Christmas lovely for you this year?

My favourite moment hasn't arrived yet, but soon will! My son has had a tough year. Has had a rough year at school, he's only 6, but had found joy in bmxing. He's really good at it but feels really self conscious because he has to borrow an old bike from the club. I don't have much money and haven't been able to get him a bike. He got loads of bmx clothes for Christmas and hasn't taken them off. He said he looks 'like the other kids now, and all he needs to do is save his money to get the race bike he wants'. To add, the other kids and parents are wonderful and couldn't care less what he is wearing or what bike he is riding.

The bike however is waiting for him at my parent's house. Took me a long time to save for it. Just cannot wait to see his face. He's already saved £50 of his birthday money towards it that he refuses to spend!

I know it is a material thing but I'm just so happy to have such a lovely child that didn't expect to get a bike and is so determined to save his money to get it. It's hard being a lone parent with little money and a ND child with an expensive hobby!

Anyone want to share any Christmas loveliness? I find Christmas quite hard emotionally so could use a happy thread.

Our little man is just turned 3 and came home to us by adoption six weeks ago. He has done amazing today, loved Santa having eaten the mince pie, opened his gifts all full of wonder, and it's honestly been the lazy but loving family Christmas we've waited over a decade for.

So lovely reading these stories. Merry Christmas!

That's unbelievably lovely ❤️ what a wonderful new life you are giving your little boy

Currently sitting in my room… taking snippets of time in between the cooking! And can hear my DS15 singing christmas songs to himself in his bedroom ☺️… He’s so happy and jolly today.

This is so lovely!

My dc are mountain bike and bmx mad…. Have been since they were similar age to your ds.

You’re right, it is a bloody expensive sport!

My foster child who has never really experienced Christmas asked me if we were a family

Something in my eye…

My 9 year old who has been in hospital for 296 days after battling septic shock, cancer and intestinal failure is well enough to be at home for the day.

As we approached the house, he looked at me with a smile and said “Mummy, I’m in my world again”. 😊

Extraordinary. Love to you!

One of my DC wanted a specific toy but it was out of our budget. I found a used but good condition one on vinted for 10% of the new price! DC opened it and face just lit up and shouted "yes i got (name of toy) and has been playing with it all day. So happy!

After a spectacularly bad year, the worst of my 56 years on the planet, I am so grateful to have DH home (absent last year), and to be held by a wonderful community and circle of women where I live, who have truly kept me sane.
I have my feet up whilst dinner cooks itself, and a big stack of new books and music to ease me into the new year. So lucky.

These stories are incredible too - a wonderful thread, OP. Thank you.

My lovely 19yo daughter had made me a stocking so we unwrapped them together. She knows it's my favourite bit of Christmas, and she had put so much thought into each and every stocking present.

And my lovely but elderly parents were both mortified that they hadn't managed to get me anything...except they had ordered exactly what I wanted, they had both just forgotten about it. (The clue was the massive box in their hallway!)Grin

GiantRoadPuzzle · 25/12/2024 15:51

Such beautiful stories and exactly what Christmas is about.

We’re at my parents with my four year old & newborn, having driven four hours to get here. My mum adores Christmas and runs herself ragged to make it so special for all of us. My four year old got into bed with her this morning & told her how excited he was, that she’s the best Nana and he loves her the most.

I just know that will have made her whole year, to see Christmas back through the eyes of a four year old.

BettyBardMacDonald · 25/12/2024 15:56

Has he seen the bike yet?

Oblomov24 · 25/12/2024 16:00

That is so sweet OP.

muddyford · 25/12/2024 16:05

DH bought me new birdwatching binoculars so this afternoon I sloped off for an hour. I had long-tailed tits over my head, so close I could see their red eyes, wonderful views of curlews and a slightly manic little egret fishing in a dramatic fashion. These new binoculars are such an improvement on my old pair.

Natsku · 25/12/2024 16:33

This thread has got me welling up. Such lovely moments.

My son (6), upon opening his stocking, which really wasn't much of anything at all, just a couple of cheap little toys from Tiger and some chocolate, exclaimed joyfully that its everything he's wanted for years!
And my teenager got Just Dance for the switch, she does not get on well with her little brother usually, but the two of them danced together playing it for ages and it made me so happy to watch that.

frozendaisy · 25/12/2024 16:55

A glorbe getting stuck on the higher, unreachable, landing ceiling.

The throwing of indoor snowballs at it to no avail

The teens exclaiming

"It's really hard to hit"
"I think I've made it stick more"

Until it was removed with the assistance of a broom!

Wow! That's lovely OP!

i am.pleased both my DS are getting on well together (wasn't always the case). They are both being helpful, helping to clear up, serving drinks etc. So lovely after past turbulence!

Carouselfish · 25/12/2024 17:55

My four year old saying to our favourite uncle, ' Welcome! Please stay longer than you want to!'

And trying to coordinate everyone to play songs on their cracker prize bells.

What lovely stories, thank you all so much for sharing!

BearPear · 25/12/2024 19:38

My parents made it over for Christmas lunch, they are both going through some really tough health issues. Our new grandson perfectly timed the space between eating/screaming/sleeping to sit with us all at the dinner table. My dad hugged me when they left and said the day was just what they needed.

EmeraldDreams73 · 25/12/2024 19:43

My dh worked today and I was a bit at a loss this morning but once his parents arrived at lunchtime I had such a lovely afternoon. They're easy to chat to, brought a lovely unexpected hamper, and FIL asked me to play Moonlight Sonata on the piano for them (his favourite apparently - I'm a piano teacher but they'd never heard me play.) Afterwards he said it had made his Christmas, which was so lovely.

Dh is now home, we've had our dinner, opened a couple of presents, in laws are staying over tonight and I've been surprised at what easy guests they are.

BettyBardMacDonald · 25/12/2024 20:01

That sounds so pleasant, @EmeraldDreams73

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 25/12/2024 20:11

DS (13) came up behind me as I was preparing sprouts and laid his head on my shoulder and said “thanks mum for all you are doing for us.” He’s a lovely lad generally and really pulls his weight at home and works hard at school, but this was extra nice.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/12/2024 20:20

DD (13) gave me a Christmas present.
It's the first time either of my dc has spontaneously given me a present, bought from their own money.
