Thought it would be nice to share what's made Christmas lovely for you this year?

My favourite moment hasn't arrived yet, but soon will! My son has had a tough year. Has had a rough year at school, he's only 6, but had found joy in bmxing. He's really good at it but feels really self conscious because he has to borrow an old bike from the club. I don't have much money and haven't been able to get him a bike. He got loads of bmx clothes for Christmas and hasn't taken them off. He said he looks 'like the other kids now, and all he needs to do is save his money to get the race bike he wants'. To add, the other kids and parents are wonderful and couldn't care less what he is wearing or what bike he is riding.

The bike however is waiting for him at my parent's house. Took me a long time to save for it. Just cannot wait to see his face. He's already saved £50 of his birthday money towards it that he refuses to spend!

I know it is a material thing but I'm just so happy to have such a lovely child that didn't expect to get a bike and is so determined to save his money to get it. It's hard being a lone parent with little money and a ND child with an expensive hobby!

Anyone want to share any Christmas loveliness? I find Christmas quite hard emotionally so could use a happy thread.

I've nipped back from our Christmas walk, to put the bacon hat on the turkey.

That being done, the house is in silence and I've got red wine...

In a few mins, everyone will come tumbling back in, and it will be back to glorious chaos

My littlest, sat and waited with his Santa present, until his big sister had opened hers, and then asked if he could open his. He is such an impetuous little boy, I was so impressed.

I have an 8 year old and a one year old who took many years of heartache to conceive. It's been so magical watching them open the presents together and just have such fun. We feel like a complete family, which is something I didn't believe would ever happen. It's magical.

Our first relaxed xmas eve & morning (the kids are teenagers) - it was so lovely to not be stressed about getting the stockings onto their beds without waking them (we all agreed they'd be outside their doors), and I managed to get a first coffee before anyone else woke up. Kids loved their presents (lego building in progress), and I'm in the midst of cooking lunch (slightly behind as the oven door broke!), but generally chiiled & happy for the first time since having kids.

Oh I am enjoying these cheery tales of joy (whilst I cook the dinner) Some are just the smallest of things that are delightful.

TheEllisGreyMethod · 25/12/2024 13:42

I find Christmas really tough but dd did three independent wobbly steps towards me just now and then hugged my legs grinning. Priceless ❤️

Oh, this is so lovely...really is. Your son is going to be so excited and happy.

DH and I had a walk through the local parkland in the sun. It was such a tonic after so many grey days, and signalled to me that my cold is about over. He bought me a little armillary sphere for the garden and we'll set it up this afternoon.

My foster child who has never really experienced Christmas asked me if we were a family

Oh my. Hug that child tight.

OP That has made my day.. Please come back and update! DS 14 is still at his dads but has been desperate for an iPhone for the last 3 years. I told him it was way over budget and that he has a pefectly functioning phone anyway... Can't wait to see his face when he opens it! I may prolong the experience by announcing after lunch and present opening that I've 'found' an another present of his.....

imnotthatkindofmum · 25/12/2024 13:50

I'm just happy that my kids still want to come sit in our bed with their stockings (eldest is almost 18) and spend time with us on the day. Just being home to 5 of us is lush tbh. The older 2 have retreated for an hour before we go to our mums. Eldest is autistic so needs that down time. Also the 11 year old got a mini karaoke machine so they're hiding from that lol

I've just had a lovely relaxed day so far. Happy to be able to have that with all of us as it's been a tough year and we have another to come.

Kids are grown up now but our dog gave us all the magic of Christmas being so excited at his stocking ☺️☺️☺️

Mashroom · 25/12/2024 14:35

Oh op your son sounds a total joy .. bless him and I hope he enjoys his bike (he sounds like he has great mother so well done💐)

I loved that my sons got expensive gifts but my youngest asked for crayons (he’s ten) and off he went with his notepad drawing for the morning.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/12/2024 14:38

DS(16) and dd(13) are sharing a room at my in-laws fur a few nights they are usually typical teens who'll sleep till midday given hand a chance, and will squabble about anything. Today DD woke her brother up at 6 and they opened their stockings together, then played cards together before waking us up with a cup of tea at 8 am.

Lottapianos · 25/12/2024 14:48

My DP and I are not fans of Christmas, and we've had an extremely emotional and difficult December. But we're having a quiet, good humoured, peaceful Christmas day together, and I am so fucking grateful down to my bones that I have him in my life and that we get to share Christmas (and every other day) our own way and together

NorthernChinchilla · 25/12/2024 14:53

DD, 8, has had a tough year. She's finally started at a special school, which is brilliant, but misses her friends and 121 TA from her mainstream.
We visited our local castle a couple of weeks ago, and the event/display was The Nutcracker, and there were loads of toy mice throughout. DD is obsessed with rats, has several as pets, etc. She was therefore very taken with the displays. We got talking to a member of staff who said the rats mice were made by staff, and we should see if they'd let us have one.

I contacted the events team to see if they would, not even expecting a response, but they emailed back, very taken, and agreed! I'd said we'd make a donation to their Foundation Charity in exchange.

So when we visited Xmas eve- we always go for a walk there- her toy rat was waiting for her at the entrance to the castle, gold bow round his neck, and a note saying that he was coming home with us!

She was thrilled!

We had toad in the hole last night with gravey.
This morning, he poured himself a glass of his homemade/pressed apple juice....

Reminds me of the time I'd been baking and using eggs.
I'd also made some homemade lemonade...yes, he took a swig of nice refreshing raw egg white.

This is beautiful xxx

Littletreefrog · 25/12/2024 14:57

DS has a friend at his sports club. She doesn't have any other friends at the club as all the girls have turned against her for some unknown reason other than teenage girls being teenage girls.

His friend therefore didn't join in the secret Santa so DS asked me to get her a present anyway. The gift has been in a gift bag on the side for a few weeks. Only yesterday as I was preparing to pack it in the car to take to training did I see DS has taken his chocolate everyday from his advent calendar (individually wrapped from a reusable advent calendar) and added it to the bag

DS doesn't really do friends as is very socially awkward and I found it very touching he had thought of this as he loves chocolate!

SeaToSki · 25/12/2024 15:03

DS who is dyspraxic and so struggles with small motor stuff had properly wrapped all his gifts for his siblings and Dad and me. He was so proud and everyone who got a gift mentioned how lovely the wrapping was, which made him even prouder.

iwishihadaname · 25/12/2024 15:06

Oh that so lovely. I bet ur sons face and happiness will make all the hard saving worth it

spuddy4 · 25/12/2024 15:06

garlictwist · 25/12/2024 13:17

You must come back and update us with how he received the bike!

Yes, I agree!

Kirbert2 · 25/12/2024 15:11

My 9 year old who has been in hospital for 296 days after battling septic shock, cancer and intestinal failure is well enough to be at home for the day.

As we approached the house, he looked at me with a smile and said “Mummy, I’m in my world again”. 😊

Racingadmin · 25/12/2024 15:25

Dd who has had a tough few month with her MH culminating in an overdose

She said she actually felt happy today for the first time . Not just existing but actual joy

destiel00 · 25/12/2024 15:26

Older dc here (21 and 18), and they still come to our bed to open their stockings ☺️

They really liked all their gifts and gave me a beautiful card with a very loving message ❤️

We have eaten our dinner and played a game and now we are all doing out own thing - dc talking to friends/gf and I'm lolling on the bed and dh is napping on the sofa listening to carols downstairs 😴

We are hosting tomorrow, so I'm glad today is low-key

I'm feeling very loved and grateful 🙏
