Food shopped has arrived and guess what’s missing?

What is missing from yours? And ..which shop was delivering it?
After getting a coveted delivery slot with Sainsbury’s, it has arrived and they have “lost “ the freezer food. FFS
No pigs in blankets, icecream, peas, pizza for a quick Xmas eve dinner with movie (amongst other stuff). Now have to trawl the bloody supermarket tomorrow. Exactly the reason I persevered with securing an online slot in october.
Now on hold for the helpline (15 minutes so far) to get a refund. Last Xmas shop with them for me. They fucked up last year too with. A long list of unavailable items received. This year, only a few replacements and it was looking good until the delivery arrived minus a crate or two.

Waitrose everything there, inc. the turkey! The only slight bugger, goose fat potatoes with a use by 23rd .... Wtf. But, I just stuck them in the freezer, can cook from frozen. They even delivered the turkey gravy, result!! I had ordered an emergency supply from Cook because it's always missing. I now have a lot of turkey gravy 😜

Tesco - My main Xmas dinner item, T-Bone steak, was subbed for sirloin. My "Christmas Melon" was subbed for 2 honeydew melons. I refused both subs.

Annoyingly I had to make a last minute trip to Tesco anyway and coincidentally followed the driver back to the store, went to see if they had a Christmas Melon and spotted a staff member putting my subbed melons back out on the shelf. Staff member gave me that 'weirdo at 3'o clock' side eye when I said, "Oh, I recognise those melons" 😂.

Anyway, so still no luck with the T-Bone so ended up getting Fillet steak instead.

Sorry but the bit about the melons made me proper laugh 😂

I agree, I would just sack off the missing items but I have somehow ended up catering for 14 people this year and I fear that the extras might be needed to keep everyone fed and happy. My DS definitely would miss the pigs in blankets.
it could turn him away from supermarket online shopping for life. I have told him that we will be off to the supermarket for missing items tomorrow (and not Sainsbury’s through principle). He is not overly excited but he has taken the missing items very seriously and agrees it is an important mission.

You can’t have Christmas without pigs in blankets!

Be sure to go early so they’re not all taken

Reading this thread makes me even more determined just to go shopping myself. I would hate all this uncertainty before a delivery. Shopping isn’t actually too bad and I can pick all my own stuff, check sell by dates and just feel in control.

This is precisely why I went to Tesco at 7am yesterday to do my Xmas food shop in person. ASDA lost all my refrigerated items on my normal weekly shop last week, so I wanted to make sure everything went correctly with the Christmas shop. Nor prepared to leave that to chance!

I can't get to the shops (disability) so if everything was subbed I'd be stuffed (no pun intended 🤣) We only have an awful corner shop else, but my kids wouldn't mind if we just had crisps and weird sweets lol and wine for me and DH 🤣

FoxtrotSkarloey · 22/12/2024 22:54

We've got a massive Tesco near us, and much as we mostly now get deliveries, when I do have time to, or need to shop in a store, I actively avoid going to it because I find now that you can't fucking move down the aisles for all of the pickers and the mahoosive trollies they use. I know there's only ever supposed to be two per aisle or something like that, but they're against the clock and have to follow the route on the handheld gadget, so they just ignore it and pile in.

I know that irony that I'm contributing to the problem, but I spend more in store because I grab so many more impulse items.

3smallpups · 22/12/2024 22:56

Ocado today
No milk
No double cream
No cucumbers

Not exactly weird or exotic items !
Had had to organise a Waitrose click and collect anyway as Ocado have had no Xmas stuff in stock for weeks , so popped into shop and bought replacements.
Next year I think I'll just do click and collect

I got a Tesco shop last Friday and a Sainsburys on Saturday, so I reckoned that anything missing on Friday, I could order for Saturday. Clearly I also had an Asda one today that I forgot about!!! Plus I've got a couple of days and can despatch someone to a shop if need be, or god forbid, go myself!

Have struggled to find turkey roasting bags but DD found a couple in the cupboard, so we're all good!

jellyjester · 22/12/2024 22:58

We just got our Morrison's order. Only two substitutions and v sensible eg normal peppers instead of pointed taste the difference ones. We always use Morrisons, I think they're great. I've heard they use the same packing warehouses /staff as ocado hence why they're so reliable?? Not sure if it's true?

Happyjoyjoy · 22/12/2024 22:58

I got an asda delivery a few weeks ago. 30 items missing! Was a nightmare trying to get a refund as they didn't believe me but after about 5 phone calls got there in the end.

Topsyturvy78 · 22/12/2024 23:00

Only crackers this year sent them back. I wanted the sea salt one's they sent the cheap bland one's. I'll have to go out and get a few last minute bits anyway. If the weather calms down the wind today has been mental.

I did a click and collect a few years ago and pretty much every single item for our Christmas dinner was missing. 2 crate's had been forgotten because one was in the chiller and another in the freezer. They were absolutely chocoblock running around like headless chickens. They sorted it quickly and gave us some free chocolates. Would rather do that though than a big shop in a packed supermarket.

It’s such a nuisance when they substitute everything and even worse when they don’t bring it at all!🤣 BUT… it would be a decent enough excuse to just eat rubbish all day and let’s be honest, the wine would most definitely be the best bit! 😊

wigsonthegreenandhatsforthelifting · 22/12/2024 23:03

I just had a look out of nosiness and I there are still a couple of free delivery slots in my area for tomorrow evening - not that I need them, but if anyone does, don't just assume it's too late!

Nothing missing from my £300 Tesco shop.

I asked the delivery driver why they don’t do Christmas Eve deliveries and he said because on the last year they did it there were so many threats, and actual violence, toward drivers that they had to stop it.

I've got a Tesco delivery booked for Xmas eve?

StressedLP1 · 22/12/2024 23:04

FixTheBone · 22/12/2024 22:30

The wankers at Ocado subbed my quilted andrex for standard.

Otherwise everything present and correct, ordered friday, delivered today. Will nip into morrisons to get a turkey tomorrow.

Jesus Christ, the sick bastards. Thoughts and prayers FixTheBone 😞

Milkbottlewaffle · 22/12/2024 23:05

Sainsbury’s - Things missing were Cadbury’s hot chocolate and hyacinth plants for some gifts. Substituted with some spikey house plants.

Altogether very happy with my Christmas order!

Vixs13 · 22/12/2024 23:05

I did a click and collect last night at Sainsbury’s and it was so stressful never again! My slot was between 8pm-9pm got there for 8pm only person there and had to wait 1/2hr to bring my order out. When putting it in car I thought no way is this £150 worth of stuff only filled 2 bags went through in the boot in the pitch black and rain with the torch on my phone and about 26 things were missing and had items I hadn’t ordered. Dragged it all back in the shop and the staff were running around trying to fulfil my order. When I came home I went through it again and I’m still missing things so had to put an online complaint in. The manager was nice though she told me to pick 2 bottles of alcohol for free for the inconvenience 😂 as I was leaving another click and collect customer had come in complaining about her order.

drspouse · 22/12/2024 23:06

I was going to do Lidl early tomorrow but I am currently on hour 4 of a 4 hour wait at A&E so will not be up early and have booked click and collect - I could have had Morrison's, Tesco or Asda! Have gone with Morrisons and will see what the subs are and head to Booths where I was going to get Cava and a truckle of cheese anyway.

Zippea · 22/12/2024 21:39

Asda - they didn’t send the turkey. I order a shop every year for my MIL. Of course, it’s my fault 🙄

I received a Christmas order from Tesco some years back with the Turkey missing.

They sent me a £25 voucher as an apology. And I bought a small frozen turkey from our coop local so not too much hassle.

Huonneyywisshful · 22/12/2024 23:11

Ocado, no missing items.

Hmm...don't give me ideas 🤣🤣🍸

Isthisreasonable · 22/12/2024 23:14

Booked a slot with Amazon yesterday. Delivered today. Only one minor thing not available and virtually no substitutions..

NewNameForCrimbo · 22/12/2024 23:19

I had an awful experience with Sainsbury at Christmas some years back. So many substitutions and damages etc. frozen items thawed, customer service a nightmare. I vowed never again. I've used Ocado ever since. My Ocado delivery came this evening. Everything perfect and no substitutions at all.

IlovePond · 22/12/2024 23:20

@Snoopy111 - you’ve reminded me that I need to cancel my Nectar card and get a new one as, although I have been scanning mine for years and never cashing anything in, when I asked in-store how much was on it, I was told 27p. The assistant just shrugged and said, ‘Someone is accessing and spending your points, it happens all the time.’ I realise now I should have been more horrified about this breach of security but Sainsbury’s don’t seem to care.

Re: Online orders - since I recently discovered the delights of Lidl and Aldi I only occasionally do a c&c with Waitrose or a delivery from Asda. Our local Waitrose is terrible for accepting returns/giving refunds if there’s a problem, but Asda have a great ‘no quibble’ online refund system.

Off to delete my Sainsbury’s account…

The physical shops aren't much better . Shopped today, no Christmas cake in Tesco or Morrisons, no duck (both had it last week), no bread sauce, no cream in Tesco. Asda came up trumps in the end.
