Food shopped has arrived and guess what’s missing?

What is missing from yours? And ..which shop was delivering it?
After getting a coveted delivery slot with Sainsbury’s, it has arrived and they have “lost “ the freezer food. FFS
No pigs in blankets, icecream, peas, pizza for a quick Xmas eve dinner with movie (amongst other stuff). Now have to trawl the bloody supermarket tomorrow. Exactly the reason I persevered with securing an online slot in october.
Now on hold for the helpline (15 minutes so far) to get a refund. Last Xmas shop with them for me. They fucked up last year too with. A long list of unavailable items received. This year, only a few replacements and it was looking good until the delivery arrived minus a crate or two.

Best one I ever had when I was a delivery driver for Sainsbury’s, a lady ordered gravy granules and they substituted them for gravy bones, she saw the funny side and said she would have kept them if she had a dog.

Did my shopping yesterday and got everything I needed but discovered my loyalty card points were missing. Someone else has managed to spend nearly £20 worth in October. GRRRRRR!

Nectar?

There is some fraud going on. My friend had £70 taken from her account spent at a Sainsburys she never heard of the place before - its 250 miles away plus she was on holiday 250 miles away in a different direction.

Nectar refunded the points but had to start again on a new card so took months to get her my Nectar Prices back.

HootyMcBoobs · 22/12/2024 22:21

Tesco yesterday, only item unavailable was vegan pigs in blankets.

Everything I could buy frozen I got about 4 weeks ago from Iceland and it's been in the garage freezer since then.

Fresh stuff all arrived from Tesco with reasonable use-by dates too.

Friend's brother was self isolating with Covid. Did an online shop. Ordered a pack of single finger Twix. He got tampons instead. Both of a similar size, individually wrapped and begin with T. Then the similarities end there.

I can't see why popping to the shops is so bad. Do people just stay home and eat all day?

PheasantPluckers · 22/12/2024 22:24

Oh blimey! This is why I order freezer food well in advance, including back-up items like frozen roast potatoes and veg in case there's a problem getting hold of things just before Christmas!

This is why I don't have a Christmas food delivery. It's too unreliable. Even though it's a pain in the arse hitting the shops at the busiest time of the year, it's not worth the risk of having key Christmas dinner items missing and then having to go out and do the shop anyway

Totally agree.

I’ve only ever had three online food deliveries and wasn’t impressed with any of them (short dates, not great looking produce, key items missing etc).

For me, it’s far less stressful to just go to the supermarket and do it myself. I’m lucky enough that I’ve broken up now so will wake up tomorrow like I’m going to work and do an early morning shop. Husband won’t have started work at that point so he can look after the kids. In previous years I’ve sometimes gone after work at 5ish on 22nd and it’s not been much busier than a normal day. Then we’ll pop to the butchers on Christmas Eve to pick up our order…last year we went around 10pm and there were only 2 others in the shop!

I guess it all depends on what you find the most stressful! For me it’s definitely missing key items or having what I would deem poor quality produce.

TooTired2024 · 22/12/2024 22:26

The worst yet was last year's Ocado delivery, which inexplicably arrived with none of the frozen or fresh stuff, so just some biscuits and dried herbs for Christmas dinner.

This was on Christmas Eve and I was working, so I just had to talk DH and the kids through a list of emergency shopping (including a roast!) and they went on a hunt.

They managed to find most of the stuff we needed, although some of the swaps were a bit interesting! We actually had a lovely Christmas dinner in the end.

There was another time when all the nice stuff I'd ordered for our vegetarian visitors didn't turn up - it was definitely challenging!

Hazylazydays · 22/12/2024 22:26

Sensible thing to do is order everything storable/freezable the week before, I’d never risk ordering turkey for home delivery, that’s just asking for trouble.
Most bits and pieces can be picked up at the smaller shops, so if a few bits are missing you can usually get them.

I went this week and it was absolute carnage. A lot of food on the shelves also had an expiry date well before Christmas too, because of how insanely early this stuff hits the shelves - I'm talking cheese boards etc. not fresh meat.

NeverEatShreddiesWheat · 22/12/2024 22:27

Ocado. No semi skimmed milk. Really?!?!

Enterthedragonqueen · 22/12/2024 22:28

My multipack of 12 Walkers crisps was substituted by one single pack of ready salted crisps.

FixTheBone · 22/12/2024 22:30

The wankers at Ocado subbed my quilted andrex for standard.

Otherwise everything present and correct, ordered friday, delivered today. Will nip into morrisons to get a turkey tomorrow.

Starseeking · 22/12/2024 22:30

I just finalised my Tesco order which is coming tomorrow night. I forgot to select a yule log and now there's none left. Hopefully there'll be a couple in the store tomorrow as my family love them. They had Baileys pouring cream so I snapped up 3 of those; fingers crossed it arrives!

Mishmashs · 22/12/2024 22:31

We had a huge £200 order come tonight. Only three substitutions but all sensible like instead of two large ciabatta they did one large ciabatta and two halves, instead of a sharing bag of pigs in blankets crisps they did Turkey gravy flavour and Insgead of a particular stock cube they put another similar one. So all acceptable!

NotmySundaybest · 22/12/2024 22:33

We had Sainsbury's.
Swapped whipped cream for double cream & Brie for Brie.
Not too bad.
I don't like the voucher with subs thing though

chattyness · 22/12/2024 22:35

Nothing missing & no subs in our Tesco shop, yay! I make sure I book an extra slot two weeks before & grab the half price Christmas meat then because it's the best time to get the size we want and we freeze it anyway, plus festive bits like mince pies chocs etc because they always run out of all that if we leave it until the last week. So this week it was Xmas bargain veg, some fruit and usual fresh basics to get thankfully

WilfredsPies · 22/12/2024 22:36

We had an Ocado delivery this evening. It was missing two bags of easy peelers, some ready made mash and vegan Chicken Kievs.

That’s fine because I felt a bit uneasy about the Kievs, so sent DH into the store to grab them earlier this week, and he is going to Sainsbury’s at 6am tomorrow to collect the ordered turkey and buy the rest of the fresh bits, so can get everything else we need then.

Pollydollydoodle · 22/12/2024 22:38

Some of these posts are making me dread doing tomorrows shop - in person 🙈

Basketballhoop · 22/12/2024 22:39

eklaljdj · 22/12/2024 21:49

Is this thread making anyone else add stuff to their order? So far I've added baileys squirty cream and Christmas dreamies, that may or may not arrive Grin

It made me look at my app and discovered I could get a slot for tomorrow having resigned myself to having to schlep round. I have to go out to collect my turkey and hour after the slot, perfect opportunity to pick up anything that is missing. Fingers crossed the stars are aligned, it's been a shite year so could do with a bit of luck to close it out!

AlwaysTheRenegade · 22/12/2024 22:40

I had 17 subs on my Asda delivery today, nothing major, and I handed back what wasn't suitable, but...I ordered a new candle as a treat (only £4), and it absolutely reeks of curry! Surely amber and suede would smell like donkeys or aftershave, not a takeaway 🤣

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 22/12/2024 22:40

This is exactly why we don’t get an order over Christmas. Stuff is missing on regular delivery’s so I don’t want to chance it. Saying that, several of the things I want3d from the supermarket had shit use by dates, so will have to also pop to the local to pick some stuff up. Then I am finished.

ChampagneLassie · 22/12/2024 22:41

Never used Sainsbury’s but that sounds rubbish. Ocado and Waitrose if they don’t give you something they refund it you don’t have to chase them. Also in 10+ years as Ocado customer subductions or missing things are rare. They’re excellent

FoxtrotSkarloey · 22/12/2024 22:46

WeGoSlow · 22/12/2024 21:56

Our pigs in blankets have been substituted with pigs in blankets flavoured crisps!

Loving the lateral thinking here! Enjoy roasting them up with your Turkey.

KimFan · 22/12/2024 22:47

This is precisely why I went to Tesco at 7am yesterday to do my Xmas food shop in person. ASDA lost all my refrigerated items on my normal weekly shop last week, so I wanted to make sure everything went correctly with the Christmas shop. Nor prepared to leave that to chance!
