What's in your 'treat corner' and when does it open?

itsallbowlsbaby · 21/12/2024 18:28

Following on the tradition that my Mum set when we were younger. Treat corner opened back then on the 24th (because me and my brother were gannets who would trough everything in a day) but I think I'll get everything out tonight. We've got Twiglets, Treeslets, cheese balls, those pretzel packs with different containers, Ferrero Rocher, Toffifee, rum balls, Segsations, Bendicts, Quality Street (more for the nostalgia) and some Leibkuchen.

Same here! I know I’m 45, but I can hear my mum saying “not until the 24th” and I cannot go against my mum… 😊

Avoidingthetwitch · 21/12/2024 18:29

looking at the weather forecast, tonight!! Though only got a few bits as not done the big shop yet

TianasBayou · 21/12/2024 18:36

We opened the Quality Street last week Xmas Smile
And are about to open the festive bar 🍹🍸

TamiTaylorIsMyParentingGuru · 21/12/2024 18:38

Ours is coming out on Monday. Mainly because it’s going onto my baking island which is still in use until Monday morning and I need the space. Once the advent calendars have been removed from the sideboard on Tuesday I’ll move some stuff over to there, but everything else will stay on the island and the sideboard will be restocked from there.

404ErrorCode · 21/12/2024 18:38

Not yet. I’d we start, it will be all gone by Christmas Day! We will start Christmas Eve

StormingNorman · 21/12/2024 18:40

Quality Street
Marron Glace
Mince pies (a variety of)
Chestnuts (to be roasted)
Marzipan fruit
York’s fruit jellies
Dates
Panettone
A musical tin of shortbread
Mulled wine
Bendicks Bittermints
Christmas cake

I’ve scaled right back this year as it never gets eaten. There is a LOT of cheese, pate, charcuterie and pickles though.

We’ve already worked through one Christmas cake but the rest will probably be opened tomorrow.

OriginalUsername2 · 21/12/2024 18:40

We’re all the “once you pop you can’t stop” types so we’d demolish that between the lot of us and then be sick of it by Christmas

LuckysDadsHat · 21/12/2024 18:43

Christmas eve it all comes out.

Soontobe60 · 21/12/2024 18:44

We opened our treat tray earlier! We have the following:
Pringles
No Nukes (named after the Ban the Bomb symbol
Cheese savouries
QS and Celebrations tins
Various nuts
M{S Very Merry Munch (absolutely delicious!)
Potato straws
posh crisps (various flavours)
Mince pies
Home made Christmas cake
The bar is open, first sherry is being drunk as I cruise the TV channels.

GroovyChick87 · 21/12/2024 18:47

It'll probably be Christmas eve. I've got a few events early in January and so I don't want to stuff myself and put on a load of weight. I'll treat myself closer to Christmas. Also if I open it now it'll be gone by Christmas.

PullTheBricksDown · 21/12/2024 18:51

Might move it forward depending on replies here! Usually Christmas Eve. So far:

Chocolate Oranges - milk and dark but not the pointless non orange ones
Quality Street in the proper tin
Lebkuchen
Nut fudge and raisin mix
Mince pies

Covidfluforxmas · 21/12/2024 18:55

Taytocrisps · 21/12/2024 18:55

The treats are fancy chocolate biscuits, Butlers chocolates and nachos.

Hoping to add a selection of cheeses before the big day.

There will be desserts in the form of a Christmas pudding, trifle, mince pies etc.

I'll break out the cheeses and biscuits on Christmas Eve. I'll probably save the pudding and trifle until the 27th. I'm elsewhere for dinner on Christmas Day and St. Stephen's Day (26th).

MadameBethune · 21/12/2024 19:00

I'm torn - want it all eaten by 27th so i can avoid temptation for a week afterwards, but we have guests arriving for 25-26th and I don't want it all to look plundered and half eaten by then.

We've got;
Aldi mini mince pies - tbh I bought several packets and have been tucking into those for a week now
Vegan gluten free mince pies
Twiglets
Crisps various
Belazu Flavoured nuts one with rosemary, one with parmesan
Mint creams (vegan)
Choc liqueur cherries
Crostini - to come out with the drinks
GF crostini
Blonde choc florentines
Fancy tortilla chips

MadameBethune · 21/12/2024 19:01

oh yes and choc biscuits
christmas cake slices and GF version
dates

StiffyByngsDogBartholomewsChristmasBone · 21/12/2024 19:04

Too much

loads of cheese biscuits, twiglets, crisps
peach rings
mint imperials
mozart balls
gummy sweets
m&s fake lindor
jellybeans
candied pecans and almonds
Reese's stuff
Mint matchmakers
terrys chocolate orange
marshmallows

and more, I can't remember what else. That doesn't include mince pies or petit fours I will serve with coffee, that's just the sweets I put out on our candy buffet. God we are a bunch of pigs 😂. I bought mire this year as we are entertaining with 9 kids here on Boxing Day or at least that's my excuse

evtheria · 21/12/2024 19:04

Probably start Monday, but DP is on very long shifts until the 25th so I must remember to pack some of it for his work meals!

• a large fruit cake
• a little packet of almonds covered in chocolate and liquorice dust, haven't had and am curious
• a tin of different Turkish delights*, we don't like the standard rose+mint+lemon selections so are very excited to eat these!
• 2 types of Pringles, which I usually refuse to buy
• honey-roasted nuts, branded, as we tried supermarket own and they were not as good
• packet of spiced shortbread

Stuff like cheese, olives, fancy saucissons etc are part of 'the meals', and we have been eating mince pies from different supermarkets etc. for the past 3 weeks in an attempt to find some we love (unsuccessful). Am planning to make some fudge with DS on Christmas Eve.
*Turkish Delights are definitely our family Christmas tradition 'treat' and it feels very festive when we have them stacked on a little blue floral plate.

zzplex · 21/12/2024 19:05

October. Although I didn't start on mince pies until December, which is late for me.

What I've already eaten:

Bendicks bitter mints
Ferrero Roche
Lebkuchen hearts
Marzipan and chocolate discs
Honey roast nuts

StiffyByngsDogBartholomewsChristmasBone · 21/12/2024 19:06

@evtheria its the only time I buy Pringles too !

CharlotteStreetW1 · 21/12/2024 19:13

I'm feeding next door's cats. They have a "trolley of treats" and it's a thing of joy!

It's only me and DH here so we don't go too mad. I bought some pigs in blankets for Boxing Day the other day and went to put them in the freezer only to be confronted by a wall of ice! So we had them for dinner that night 😄

I haven't really done a Christmas food shop (we're being hosted on the day) so all we've got at the moment is many, many biscuits and some mince pies.

BrendaSmall · 21/12/2024 19:14

We always have treats 12 months of the year, so done do a specific treat area 🤣🤣

gettingolderbutcooler · 21/12/2024 19:16

1kg lindor chocs.
Pringles.
Crackers /cheeses
Dips
Stollen
Smoked salmon
(NONE to be touched until 24/12!!)

PepperoniPizzas · 21/12/2024 19:17

We've got quality street/roses/heros/celebrations. Bought the small bags rather than the tubs as want to cut back on spending but have a bit of everything.

Also got coop posh crisps and dips.

Cheeses, olives and biscuits.

Mini Christmas cakes as I'm the only one that eats it.

Mince pies.

Turkish delights (the one in powder, not fry's).

Shortbread biscuits.

Other nice biscuits.

Everything will get opened Christmas Eve as that's when my adult kids will visit.

potplant · 21/12/2024 19:18

christmas treat corner is open for business on Christmas Eve night.
chocccies, crisps, pretzels, the fancy mince pies, whatever other goodies have caught my eye on the past couple of weeks.

Please tell me you have a large family and it's not just you and DH!

Though all looks delicious, I'd be the size of a house by New Year.
