What's in your 'treat corner' and when does it open?

Following on the tradition that my Mum set when we were younger. Treat corner opened back then on the 24th (because me and my brother were gannets who would trough everything in a day) but I think I'll get everything out tonight. We've got Twiglets, Treeslets, cheese balls, those pretzel packs with different containers, Ferrero Rocher, Toffifee, rum balls, Segsations, Bendicts, Quality Street (more for the nostalgia) and some Leibkuchen.

What happens with these treat corners? There seems to be a lot of unwrapped goodies being listed: do these sit around for days? Not being negative - they sound brilliant! Just genuinely interested in how it works. Are there small children / dogs around? In my house, I wouldn’t trust anything left in the side hadn’t been licked 😂

there is just DH, DD14 and me so it stays tidy. They both know not to sully the display ! I've got refills for a couple of items. No dogs here.
we've got family over on Boxing Day including 8 kids aged 4-18 so I doubt there will be much left after that !

I need to know more about this rum dip. How do you make it?

I wasn't aware that rum dip wasnt a normal Christmas thing until fairly recently. It's essentially buttercream icing with a boat load of rum in it to thin it out into a custard like consistency. Very very boozy. Our recipe is done by eye but it's about half butter to icing sugar then add rum to taste. If in doubt. More rum. We put it on anything with mincemeat, mince pies, Christmas pudding and Christmas cake. We use it instead of brandy butter.

With the mince pies, if you bake them with the tops only loosely laid on top you can remove the lid when the pie is still warm, apply rum dip, replace the lid and eat, preferably in one mouthful.

@Cerialkiller that makes my teeth hurt just thinking about the amount of sugar in a mince pie containing extra sugar and butter and rum 😨

These posts make me think of my childhood in my big family, with dogs and cats and kids everywhere! That lazy Susan tray was exactly the one my mum used. What a trip down memory lane!!!
Just DH and myself so our treats are modest.
2 x boxes mince pie
1 small top iced Christmas cake
Several bags of fancy crisps
Bottle of nice port
Homemade treacle toffee

We had our first mince pie last night, so that's us started.

When dc was younger we always has a treat display. A couple of years we had an amazing hot chocolate station with our velvetizer & loads of toppings & they & their friends loved it

This year, I've lost 2 stone & have no desire to put it back on + dc are young adults & more interested in nights out with friends than treats at home + we're away for Christmas itself

So I've been v pared back this year.

We've eaten:
a box of mini mince pies
a small tub of quality street
Box specially selected milk chocolate all butter flap Jack's (they were good!)

We still have:
Box of specially selected Belgian biscuits
Box leonidas chocolates
Box bacci chocolates
Pringles
Turkish delights
Kettle crisps
Many chutneys
Selection of crackers for cheese
Bottle crement de jura
6 x bottles of prosecco
Belgian beer for dh
Red wine x 3 bottles (will get more)
Bottle of whiskey
Bottle of small batch gin
flavoured tonics
Bottle baileys

I'm going grocery shopping & I'm sure I'll add more treats.

I'm not replacing things this year & that's working for me - so I eat 2 x mince pies & i know I've had some but i haven't eaten 3 boxes by myself etc

You'd be fine: the rum will cut straight through the sweetness and numb any tooth discomfort 😂

Glad someone mentioned the party Susan, definitely a thing in my family growing up and my mum has found hers so hoping it’ll be in use when I go round there at Christmas! Loved all the sweets it was filled up with as a child and taking it around the family to share.

That sounding better and better with every word!
