What's in your 'treat corner' and when does it open?

Following on the tradition that my Mum set when we were younger. Treat corner opened back then on the 24th (because me and my brother were gannets who would trough everything in a day) but I think I'll get everything out tonight. We've got Twiglets, Treeslets, cheese balls, those pretzel packs with different containers, Ferrero Rocher, Toffifee, rum balls, Segsations, Bendicts, Quality Street (more for the nostalgia) and some Leibkuchen.

Currently my DSS x3, DD, her boyfriend and DP are making inroads on the treats which is against the Christmas rules but is making me so happy!

This thread has reminded me of something we used to have but I can’t find it.

they were tiny salted snacks (like miniature crackers or biscuits) of different types, usually in a plastic tray with sections. At least one variety was little triangles, which were just lovely salty nibbles.

Anyone know where I can buy these?

StiffyByngsDogBartholomewsChristmasBone · 21/12/2024 22:31

Lidl

PullTheBricksDown · 21/12/2024 22:36

Aldi have a version of them too. Just look among the Christmas food. I can't think of their official name but I know what you mean.

HerbertVonDoodlebug · 21/12/2024 22:40

Ours is now open, at the moment it contains Jacob’s festive crackers, mince pies, Treeslets, Christmas cake, stollen bites, and panettone. Have Twiglets, pretzels, and Yule log in reserve to bring out over the next few days.

Mine has been open since the beginning of December.

It’s usually strictly Christmas Eve but I’ve lost 4 stone this year and I’ve done so by being sensible and not demonising any food type. I have a little bit of what I fancy every day, so it would be rude not to continue in December 🎄🎅

Christmas day itself will be extra indulgent with a little bit more of the above than usual, along with alcohol and dessert

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 21/12/2024 23:53

Dark chocolate ginger 😍

MummyInTheNecropolis · 21/12/2024 23:56

We don’t have much yet as the big shop is coming Monday. So far the treat basket contains a box of mince pies, a posh box of M&S chocolate biscuits, a big bag of mini chocolate orange segments, big bag of mini toblerones and a box of hotel chocolate chocolates. I have quite a bit of Brie in the fridge which I started on today. On Monday the treat basket will be upgraded to include Pringles, bag of posh salt and vinegar crisps, a Pannetone, chocolate coins, a tin of heroes, salt and pepper crackers, and garlic crackers. Roll on Monday!

jay55 · 22/12/2024 01:08

I'm on holiday so don't have one but am loving hearing about them all. I had some treesits and quality street before I left.

MrsHemswoth · 22/12/2024 01:54

Loving this!!! We always open it on the 24th

Sideboard with:
QS Roses
M&S choc biscuits
After eights
Nuts in shell
Peanuts / honey roast / marmite
Fun size chocolate selection
Huge fruit bowl
Mint matchmakers
Jelly fruit slices
Mini cheddars
Twiglets
Pringles (prefer Aldi own as taste less salty!)

We have Xmas night stuff with cheese / pate / crackers and always have angel chimes on the table - tradition from when I was a kid!
Have a homemade Xmas cake and a Yule log

DaphneLaurel · 22/12/2024 03:31

I don't have a sweet tooth at all.
My treat will be

Olives
Cheese
Crackers
Crisps
Anything pastry related

Does anyone use a ‘Party Susan’ for their treats?

DH family used them growing up, both his parents and grandparents, and we inherited his grandads. I had never heard of them until I met DH in my 30s! We fill it with various sweets, and sometimes savoury nibbles, and filling it is part of the run up to Christmas, which was done earlier with our young adult kids.

DH has been looking on Google, it is a Tupperware item and seems to also be called a Lazy Susan.

What's in your 'treat corner' and when does it open?

Ooh I grew up with these, they were often on the coffee table full of various treats for guests to nibble on whenever they stopped by.

I have a 'platter' that looks like it but it doesn't have a lid :(

Sophiesaph24 · 22/12/2024 19:35

@evtheria

The photo is from an eBay seller, being sold by a charity for £10, if you want one! It has Party Susan in the title of the sales Ad.

UndeniablyGenX · 22/12/2024 19:38

We have some Belgian chocolates, exotic crisps and marzipan logs and it will open on Christmas Eve, close on Dec 27th and reopen on New Year's Eve.

Twitwootoo · 22/12/2024 19:41

The Christmas cupboard opens on 24th. I have tried not to go too over the top this year as last year I think it went on until Easter. Everyone knows the rules, nothing until Xmas eve

WinterCrow · 22/12/2024 19:43

We're all ill, so eating anything 'nice' other than soup or noodles by Christmas Eve would be a miracle.

caringcarer · 22/12/2024 20:26

I'm away for Xmas day and Boxing day but hosting my sister from 27th and my niece joining us on 29th. I've bought less this year as I've been on a diet and lost 4 stone and don't want to put it back on again.

After Eights x 1
Matchmakers x 2
Tub of Quality Street x 2 + large refill bag.
Whisper bites
Tubs of Treeslets x 2
Tub of mini cheddars
So many various cheeses, olives and crackers
Tub of heroes
Fudge
Marzipan fruits
Elizabeth Shaw mints
Pigs in blankets crisps + McCoys
Pringles x 2
Enormous fruit hamper x 2
No shortbread because of sugar

I'm taking After Eights, Tub of Quality streets, tub of treeslets, tub of mini cheddars, a cheeseboard with 5 cheeses plus 4 more cheeses, Elizabeth Shaw mints plus 1 huge hamper of fresh fruit and several bottles of Prosecco and some Captain Morgan's with me to elder DS on Xmas day and to MiL on Boxing day. I'm grateful to not have to cook on Xmas day tbh. I'm cooking my turkey on the 27th, when my sister arrives and my younger adult DS will come over too.

We've already eaten Pigs in blanket crisps which I've replaced, lots of cheese and opened some nice crackers. Some Chocolate of some kind will be opened on Monday.

Blingismything · 22/12/2024 20:35

M&S Collection chocolate covered brandy snap thins
M&S Merry Munch tin
M&S Collection milk dark and white chocolates
M&S chocolate and orange stollen slices
M&S cocktail nuts
After Eight selection box
We started it a couple of weeks ago but have only eaten a tiny amount.

Wiaa · 22/12/2024 20:54

We don't have anything out on display, its just in a big bag in the utility and we've already eaten the tub on celebrations ( mostly yesterday) and we've opened a bag of pretzels to eat watching the Grinch tonight. The bag contains a selection of cake bars, mince pies plus other cake slices, loads of share bags of crisps things like onion rings spicy Doritos giant wotsits, bombay mix, pretzels and one of those pretzel/cracker packs, boxed biscuits and shortbread i think matchsticks are the only chocolate item left. My DH finished work early this year as he saved some al for mon/Tuesday so xmas he as officially started in our house 😁

MadameBethune · 22/12/2024 21:09

@StiffyByngsDogBartholomewsChristmasBone that display is a thing of beauty!
Definitely has the Nutcracker vibe.

Sadly DDog would have the lot if I made a similar arrangement, so we just keep it all in packets on a high shelf until the time is right.

SunshineAfterTheRainR · 22/12/2024 21:23

What happens with these treat corners? There seems to be a lot of unwrapped goodies being listed: do these sit around for days? Not being negative - they sound brilliant! Just genuinely interested in how it works. Are there small children / dogs around? In my house, I wouldn’t trust anything left in the side hadn’t been licked 😂

Snowangles · 22/12/2024 21:37

Kind of done it now but I've held more special stuff back!

TribulationPeriwinkle · 22/12/2024 22:16

This thread is a revelation - I had no idea this was a thing! I also want to understand the logistics…
