What's in your 'treat corner' and when does it open?

itsallbowlsbaby · 21/12/2024 18:28

Following on the tradition that my Mum set when we were younger. Treat corner opened back then on the 24th (because me and my brother were gannets who would trough everything in a day) but I think I'll get everything out tonight. We've got Twiglets, Treeslets, cheese balls, those pretzel packs with different containers, Ferrero Rocher, Toffifee, rum balls, Segsations, Bendicts, Quality Street (more for the nostalgia) and some Leibkuchen.

We polished off our Christmas day dessert today, because I had to test it incase it was rubbish, quality control 😳 My excuse for such glutinous behaviour is that this year, I'm spreading the treats through the season, rather than eating it all in one day. We will have a different dessert on the day, of course!

Cerialkiller · 21/12/2024 19:29

Hm Candied nuts
Hm Christmas cake (but this might only be after Xmas lunch)

BlueLimeRun · 21/12/2024 19:40

We’ve just opened the lindt balls.

but we’ve already started in the past week:

I'm going to be That Person and say that I didn't realise a time-restricted Treat Corner was a thing until I clicked on this thread😯Which is not to say that DH and I don't get through a fair amount of seasonal snacks in the run-up to Christmas and then a load more when they're reduced in the sales. He's been on the mince pies for about a month, we've eaten several packets of pigs in blankets flavour crisps between us, and I've cracked open a box of Lindt balls this evening. I need to go shopping for some suitable cheese to go with the slab of fruit cake my son gave us yesterday.

Taytocrisps · 21/12/2024 20:00

@KohlaParasaurus I make an exception for mince pies. I've already polished off a few packs of mince pies. I'm quite partial to a mince pie or two with a cuppa in November or early December. I'm less likely to eat them over Christmas itself for some reason. But I get a pack in for visitors.

JollyHollyMe · 21/12/2024 20:04

last weekend
marron glace
Audreys chocolates
griottes
chocolate mints
pate de fruits
still need to get mince pies

LittleGreenDuck · 21/12/2024 19:21

Please tell me you have a large family and it's not just you and DH!

Though all looks delicious, I'd be the size of a house by New Year.

4 teenagers plus me and dh and the boys especially eat a LOT ! I’m actually shocked they’ve respected the rules to not eat any until I said it was ok to 😂😂😂

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 21/12/2024 20:23

Vodka
Toffee vodka
Marshmallow vodka
Blackberry vodka
Berry gin
Honey vodka
Peach schnapps
Red wine x 6
A tin of roses

Lobstercrisps · 21/12/2024 20:24

After Arthur Christmas on Christmas Eve. But we don't have a treat corner as such, just a tin of Quality St! No one would eat anything else. I've also removed all the sweets that don't get eaten and back filled from a second tub.

Lovemusic82 · 21/12/2024 20:27

We have twiglets, mini cheddars, Aldi’s munch mix, Turkish delight and mini macaroons.

Got ours out today as I like things to be eaten by Boxing Day evening.

I need to know more about this rum dip. How do you make it?

mediummumma · 21/12/2024 20:31

We normally start early but I’ve been losing weight recently and really don’t want to pile it all back on by going at it too early. In particular I’m limiting wine, which is not in the spirit of Christmas at all! Food wise, we’ve got:

posh crisps
pringles
chilli Doritos
nuts
popcorn
chocolate santas x 2
chocolate orange x 2
peanut butter cups
mint matchmakers
breadsticks, pretzels, treelets, ritz crackers
viennese biscuits
shortbread
gingerbread dough to make into men
colin the caterpillar sleigh cake
mini Christmas cupcakes x 18
yule log
haribo sweets and jellybeans
candycanes
whole nut, large bar

no tubs of sweets as we are usually gifted a few of those, along with after eights.

Falafelolive · 21/12/2024 20:35

Mince pies
Toffeefees
Florentines
Mini stollens
Chocolates
Roasted nuts
Posh crisps
Stilton and roule cheeses and crackers
Will wait until Christmas eve when family is here to start on these

MaMoosie · 21/12/2024 20:36

Ours has been open and restocked a few times since mid November! I can’t join in atm though because I have a horrendous stomach bug :(

menopausalmare · 21/12/2024 20:40

We've got a nice stash in the cupboard under the stairs which I'm holding off until Christmas eve. However, after three glasses of wine I've just succumbed and woofed a whole box of minty matchmakers😳

Coldsocold25 · 21/12/2024 20:42

StormingNorman · 21/12/2024 18:40

Quality Street
Marron Glace
Mince pies (a variety of)
Chestnuts (to be roasted)
Marzipan fruit
York’s fruit jellies
Dates
Panettone
A musical tin of shortbread
Mulled wine
Bendicks Bittermints
Christmas cake

I’ve scaled right back this year as it never gets eaten. There is a LOT of cheese, pate, charcuterie and pickles though.

We’ve already worked through one Christmas cake but the rest will probably be opened tomorrow.

Edited

Love that this your scaled back version 🤣

Marmite27 · 21/12/2024 20:45

Ona different thread, a poster said that their friend named their Christmas treat sideboard ‘a shrine to gluttony’ which I think is an amazing phrase.

The contents of my own personal shrine are still in a collapsible crate in the utility room, but included after eights, M&S jalapeño and sour cream party mix, many many types of stollen, lechbuken, mince pies and Christmas cake that my eldest and DH have been collecting for weeks. Several tubes of Pringles, a box of Victoria biscuits. I can’t think of anything else at the moment, but there’s got to be more as it’s spilling out all over the floor!

MissEloiseBridgerton · 21/12/2024 20:47

I've just set out a bowl of Lindor, Toblerone minis and Segsations, although have to move them before the kids get up before us in the morning and scoff the lot!!!

Also have mini mince pies and brandy cream, mini Yule logs, bread sticks, cheese straws, multiple dips, olives, fancy tortilla chips, chilli sensations, giant wotsits and salt sticks, multiple nuts.

The fridge is full of cheese, cured meats, chutneys.

The freezer is full of nice bread.

Finding the balance between not eating it all now and not saving it so long it goes off is hard!!

Also how is everyone presenting their treat corners??? Is it all set out in lovely serving dishes with lids? Or just in packaging?

Patienceinshortsupply · 21/12/2024 20:59

I've got a Hotel Chocolat grand wreath that DH is banned from touching until Christmas eve. He ate nearly a whole to himself last year and I was furious Grin Nothing of value here until the food shop arrives on Monday, unless you count bags of wotsits that the grandkids have got in their snack drawer.

SkankingWombat · 21/12/2024 21:00

We don't tend to break it out in one go, but release it in installments. We've had some canapés and opened some of the DC's treat drinks today, and will do the same for the next 3 days. Cheese board with all the trimmings comes out on 27th.
The nuts have been out for a few weeks though, and I've been releasing a box of mince pies a week since the beginning of December.
If I just called open season, there would be nothing left within 24hrs!

I hide the stollen at the back of a cupboard and sneak back & forth over the next week to slice pieces off when no one is looking

Oh somebody bought me that one last year. It looked amazing, the poshest and biggest box of chocolates I had ever been given, must have cost a small fortune. I wa so excited, but it was such an anticlimax, because I couldn't eat any of them, not even the plain chocolate mini wreaths! Dm took them to her knitting class in the end, they all enjoyed them, so it must be me, but can't stand hotel chocolat.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomewsChristmasBone · 21/12/2024 21:54

Here's my candy buffet which I've just finished putting out. I'm aiming for a Nutcracker kingdom of the sweets vibe. I have a massive shopping bag full of savouries but I darent open those unsupervised...

Inextremis · 21/12/2024 21:58

I have learned from previous years, and I shall be announcing the opening of the treats tomorrow. There's only DH and me, and maybe a visitor or two over the next week. We have Heroes, Turkish Delight, rose and violet cremes, mini Cheddars, several types of nuts and crisps, and rather a lot of mince pies. If I held off until Christmas Eve, we'd be attempting to eat everything in the following week - and I just get too stuffed to enjoy the goodies. So - tomorrow it is!

DragonsFurry · 21/12/2024 22:10

EH? Is this even a thing?

We generally have a box or two of mince pies, maybe some Christmas biscuits and whatever chocolates we happen to be given (which are saved for Christmas Day).

This all sounds a bit gluttonous to me - you'll all ruin your Christmas dinner!!
