Mine is mid 70ies, likes gardening, sailing/the seaside, is still quite stylish etc. Ex nurse.

In the past I've done bits of jewellery, special plants/planters, pictures etc.

But I'm stuck this year and she is the last recipient I need to buy for! I was wondering about a nice candle set or something, from Potts or similar.

Anyone have any inspired ideas?

I've got my DM a Fahlo bracelet and a dress from Seasalt

Ted27 · 05/12/2024 14:02

My mum had lost a lot of vision so I've got her some large print crossword books and a large print Bible

VodkaCola · 05/12/2024 14:03

An airfryer
A chrome book
Wine
Chocolates

Mirrorxxx · 05/12/2024 14:03

Theatre tickets

mumtotwo11 · 05/12/2024 14:05

Watching with interest - my mum is late 60s, but "young"

I've bought her perfume and some chocolates so far, but want a couple of other bits for her. I find her so hard to buy for. She has everything she needs really, and can be a bit fussy.

Ive bought vouchers for hair/nails etc and she ends up not using them or giving them back to me. She has plenty clothes, jewellery etc. Isn't fussed on candles or smellys really - help!

If yours likes gardening, what about something related to that? RHS membership? or nice garden tools, or those incubator things for starting off seeds?

PantherchameleonsocksforChristmas · 05/12/2024 14:06

I am struggling too. Got a solar powered hot air balloon light for her garden so far

I always get DM a Yorkshire Dales calendar. This year she will also get a plant, possibly a cyclamen, and some Fortnum & Mason jam.

Rocknrollstar · 05/12/2024 14:12

I’m a 70+ mum and I want the National Geographic book on the search for the Endurance under the Wendell Sea; Amazon vouchers I can use to buy Kindle books and a spa voucher. My mother liked celebrity biographies, chocolates and martini.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 05/12/2024 14:15

If she likes the seaside, how about a homemade voucher or something for a days rental of a little beach hut for your next trip? This has been a gamechanger for us - DM adores the coast but gets cold/uncomfortable so having a little 'home spot' really helps her enjoyment. Also something she'd never spend money on herself 😂

Fuzzyandwarm · 05/12/2024 14:17

I've got her a ticket to the pantomime so far. Not sure what else to get

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 05/12/2024 14:17

My mum is 85 and is getting:
A fancy mug
Chocolates (about 10 different types)
The latest book by her favourite author
A hot water bottle
Tia Maria
Pyjamas
Squishmallow
A calendar
Christmas word search book
And I've secretly planted a load of spring bulbs in her garden as a surprise for spring.

MiddleAgedDread · 05/12/2024 14:17

A dryrobe? Might be more than you want to spend though.
I haven't got a clue what I'm buying mine, she's impossible!

StrawberryWater · 05/12/2024 14:18

Same thing I get her every year. Tickets to the Chelsea Flower Show. She loves going.

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 05/12/2024 14:29

And Fortnum's biscuits.

Starlight1979 · 05/12/2024 14:35

Nothing because she decided to die on me. Saves me a bit of money though! (I am joking before anyone thinks I'm a monster)

For MIL I have bought theatre tickets to see Moulin Rouge next year😍

DazedAndConfused321 · 05/12/2024 14:51

My mum sounds very similar. She lives right next to the sea, goes wild swimming every morning and basically lives outdoors. She's like a glamorous hippie.
This candle warmer lamp
A few diptyque candles to go with it

This lovely book about the sea!

And a couple of silver pieces from here

Lillixyng · 05/12/2024 15:05

The Sea Shed do lovely jewellery. Or Arran sense of Scotland. My Christmas list to the kids ‘absolutely anything from Arran

Iliketulips · 05/12/2024 15:11

I've got my Mum a tartan pattern scarf (she likes all things Scottish), a small glass chopping board with a stag on (she doesn't need, but hopefully it'll be nice in her kitchen), £3 bag of mini Ferrero Rocher choccies (she's asked for less chocolate this year). She loves garden birds and I've seen a ceramic bird dish for food water that I'm pondering over. She's asked for Boots vouchers as usual.

Mearabade · 05/12/2024 15:12

Mine is in her late 70s. I've bought her a set of four nail Polishes so far.

She likes make up.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 05/12/2024 15:22

My mum is early 70s but very active and youthful. I've got her tickets to a concert (later in the year) some makeup from the brand she loves, a heated throw and some nice chocolate. I always get her a beauty advent calendar but obviously gave that to her last week!

In previous years I've given her a cashmere scarf, cashmere jumper, leather gloves, good slippers, fancy diffusers & candles and wine.

Whoarethoseguys · 05/12/2024 15:31

Unless she particularly likes and uses candles I wouldn't buy that.
How about
garden centre vouchers
RHS vouchers or membership
Book voucher/ a book about the history of the NHS/Book about the British seaside /sailing
Voucher for day trip to the nearest seaside.
Afternoon tea
Spa voucher

CatchHimDerry · 05/12/2024 15:32

Air fryer for DM
Nan is a digital photo frame (+1 of these for dad who also wanted one)
MIL not sure yet

Welshcakes28 · 05/12/2024 17:43

I've got my mum a gift bag with bits and pieces -

  • Foundation she uses
  • Aveda conditioner
  • Clarins hand cream
  • Some fancy baubles
  • Pocket diary
  • Mini Panettone
  • Scratchcards
  • Book she wanted
  • Socks
  • £10 gift voucher for coffee shop
  • Book of stamps

Tried to go with practical things and some luxury treats.

I have also got;

katscamel · 05/12/2024 17:44

Mums bday is 11 Dec and bought her a voucher for a facial and a top she liked ages ago. For Xmas...a new TV for her and dad, some rechargeable hand warmers, alpaca wool gloves and socks, sweets, a history book, olive spoons and some other random bits....I think.

Positivenancy · 05/12/2024 17:46

A ghd and a really nice candle from a company she loves. A few bits from the dc too.
