Mine is mid 70ies, likes gardening, sailing/the seaside, is still quite stylish etc. Ex nurse.

In the past I've done bits of jewellery, special plants/planters, pictures etc.

But I'm stuck this year and she is the last recipient I need to buy for! I was wondering about a nice candle set or something, from Potts or similar.

Anyone have any inspired ideas?

@WorriedRelative @Hedjwitch so sorry to both of you. Tough time of year. Go gently and do something that your mum would have loved and celebrated.

hels71 · 06/12/2024 20:37

I've bought my mum a bottle of Welsh whiskey

I buy my mum a Photobox diary every year with pictures of her children and grandchildren. I also add key dates to the diary so she never forgets. I also bought her a kindle because her eyesight is bad and having sworn she would never want one, she loves it now, which is great because I can also buy her Kindle books as presents. It’s a win win!

My Mum has had the following over the past few years:-
An electric heated fur blanket for on the sofa
A shoulder massager
Lovely tea cup
Make up by Trinny
An Alexa
Uggs
Knitted loungewear
A gilet
Tote bag
Weekend bag
Paints
Liberty scarf

Skechers campfire slippers as requested. Best she's had and her current pair are a couple of years old.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 06/12/2024 21:20

I spotted this, which will suit as a 'main' gift.

Mine died earlier this year. First Christmas without her. Don't mean to bring the thread down. I usually got her something for the garden,or a book.

❤️

I bought mine a beautiful cashmere and silk scarf and a bracelet. Sadly she died unexpectedly before seeing them.

I was so pleased with both, and was really looking forward to seeing her reaction, she loved Christmas and was always such a pleasure to buy for as she took such pleasure in a thoughtful gift.

I'm dreading Christmas without her

Sorry to be such a downer but hug your Mum extra tight, you never know when will be the last time.

So sorry x

Dior make up gift set and some pjs and fluffy socks from M&S. I might get her a nice scarf too but have yet to see anything that really strikes me.

PieonaBarm · 07/12/2024 20:30

Got my stepmum (who is also quite stylish) some White Company PJs. My DFIL who loves gardening is getting a Garden Centre Voucher. He loves them, can buy what plants he wants!

HolidayHappy123 · 07/12/2024 20:34

I got mine a Reisenthal shopping trolley. She’ll either love it or be pissed off the whole of Christmas.

Neom hand and body wash, lotion and candle so far.

Tickets to see Ballet Shoes at the national theatre and a snuggly looking bed jacket that someone shared on a post yesterday

I saw Ballet Shoes last weekend. It was absolutely magical. A great gift.

MissFlimpkin · 07/12/2024 20:52

This year I'm wrapping up all the random bits of Tupperware, towels, cutlery etc that I've
' borrowed' in the last year or so. Along with some things like diary she likes, some useful kitchen gadgets - think garlic press, ish, useful but not a life changer. She will find it hilarious.

MagicalMystical · 07/12/2024 20:56

Mine is mid-70s. Not really there yet with playing music from an app, but is thinking about paying for Spotify/Apple music.

So I’m getting her this as it’s dead easy to pair with phone (I can do it for her if needs be) and once you’ve done that once, every time you want music you just switch it on and away you go.

Also one of those big scarves you get on the Xmas markets - for watching the grandsons play football in this weather. And some other small bits, I forget what now.

A big box of chocs
Ginger beer 😂
Scratch cards
An expensive liquid hand soap

XelaM · 07/12/2024 21:16

I'm buying mine an Oodie, perfume and my dad a single malt whiskey 🥃 that they both enjoy together so it's also for my mum 😂

My teen daughter is getting my mum a large jigsaw puzzle (it's a fun thing for us to do over Christmas and my mum loves jigsaws) and a picture frame with a nice photo of her and my mum together. 😍

Oh good! It's one of her favourite books

EllaPaella · 07/12/2024 22:37

My Mum is 77 and hard to buy for. She's adament she doesn't want or need anything so I've done her a bag/stocking if bits. In it are earrings, posh soap, a crime novel by her favourite author, a book of poetry, posh hand cream, lip balm, luma scented candle, fairisle woolly socks and all her favourite sweets and chocolates.

Snoodleberry · 07/12/2024 22:51

My mum is a very active 68 (just took up a part time job as she slightly bored in retirement), keen sailor and Gardner.

~ some nice things from Fortnums that she wouldn’t normally buy herself
~ a holder for some alpaca wool and a 5kg bag of the wool so she can look after her birds in the garden that she loves so much

gifts in the past that she has loved - extra big cashmere shawl/scarf, Celtic & co sheepskin slippers, the “Salt Path” book, Malaysian cookery lesson at nearby Leiths place (with me 😊), Elemis products.

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 07/12/2024 22:54

Tickets to Coldplay! Quite specific, but I was really pleased with myself as I know she’ll love it. My DDs are taking her.

Stephanator · 07/12/2024 23:38

Mine is in her 60s - she's getting a Soap and Glory gift set
