Mine is mid 70ies, likes gardening, sailing/the seaside, is still quite stylish etc. Ex nurse.

In the past I've done bits of jewellery, special plants/planters, pictures etc.

But I'm stuck this year and she is the last recipient I need to buy for! I was wondering about a nice candle set or something, from Potts or similar.

Anyone have any inspired ideas?

I got my mum a lovely Chanel make up gift set. It comes with a mascara and eyeliner and gorgeous Chanel compact mirror in a beautiful little cream boucle make up bag. Definitely a treat that she wouldn't buy for herself and was just over £100

Early 60's mum I have her a Swarovski bracelet, make up bag and make up plus a new hairdryer (she told me she needed one) and Lindt chocolates.

Mil is early 70's I've got her a Swarovski bracelet too different one though which was a lot more expensive (I'm not on staff discount I promise lol), a candle and chocs but I've still to buy them.

My aunt in her 60's I bought pjs and a beautiful scarf from tkmaxx which is a cashmere blend and was a great price.

Crocs

Mine died earlier this year. First Christmas without her. Don't mean to bring the thread down. I usually got her something for the garden,or a book.

autumn1610 · 05/12/2024 20:31

New dressing gown, gloves (both asked for) then I’ve made up a hamper of a few things like bath bombs, wax melts, new mug etc

WorriedRelative · 05/12/2024 20:41

I bought mine a beautiful cashmere and silk scarf and a bracelet. Sadly she died unexpectedly before seeing them.

I was so pleased with both, and was really looking forward to seeing her reaction, she loved Christmas and was always such a pleasure to buy for as she took such pleasure in a thoughtful gift.

I'm dreading Christmas without her

Sorry to be such a downer but hug your Mum extra tight, you never know when will be the last time.

I am struggling too. Got a solar powered hot air balloon light for her garden so far

Thank you so much I've ordered this too ❤️

Mearabade · 05/12/2024 20:45

Do you all get on with your mothers?

I don't get along with mine at all, sadly

ElleMcFearsome · 05/12/2024 20:47

Mine has just lost her DH (my DF). We don’t usually make a big thing of Xmas gifts but DSis and I have decided we need to spoil her a bit this year. Thus far I have got her:

  1. a gorgeous wool sweater from House of Bruar (she drools over the catalogues but would never by herself anything as it’s a bit on the spendy side)
  2. a book on bird migration
  3. a few pairs of cashmere bed socks (she has peripheral neuropathy so gets sore feet at night)
  4. bottles of the liqueur she likes, plus the liqueur chocs

plus I’m going up to put the tree and decs up (at her request) and spend a week with her before Xmas. My DSis and her DH are with her over Xmas and cooking Xmas lunch. I think time with us is the best present we are giving her, tbh

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 05/12/2024 21:01

Much sympathy to those who have lost their mums. Christmastime is hard without those we love but I hope your memories help you through and bring some laughter amongst the tearsFlowers

MrsPeregrine · 05/12/2024 21:03

Mine likes puzzles so I bought her this Elena Essex one. I will get her something else. Just not sure what yet though.

My 70 year old mum and 78 year old MIL both asked for a magazine subscription a few years ago and it keeps rolling over. They’ve both changed a few times and have had Red, Gardeners world, Prima or good housekeeping between them. They pass them onto friends once they’re done with them and it’s really convenient present for me as I don’t have to do anything!

neonleopard · 05/12/2024 21:32

My DM is getting a record player (retro style one in a suitcase!), a couple of records found in a charity shop, and 12 beautiful wrapped paperback books, one for every month of 2025!

mdinbc · 05/12/2024 21:38

I'm a 63 yr old mum, and all the suggestions sound so nice, I'm sure most mothers would be pleased with these choices.

I've told my kids not to buy anything, except maybe chocolate or bubble bath. I really don't need anything and buy myself little luxuries once in a while. I would rather they put the extra money on their mortgages or vacation savings!

Scutterbug · 05/12/2024 21:39

My mum, 82, asked for Lego flowers!

Pumpkittenspice · 05/12/2024 21:45

My DM is 60.

I got her a Ariana Grande Cloud perfume gift set (I wore it before and she said she loved it). I figured that she wouldn’t buy it for herself. It comes with a travel sized bottle, which will be perfect for her travels.

For her stocking, I got her: packing cubes (she loves travelling), Olay moisturiser (she gets one every year), a phone holder, a bottle of shower gel and Turkish delight from M&S.

I might get her a mug too, since she recently dropped her favourite one!

My mum, 82, asked for Lego flowers!

She has excellent taste! Which ones will you be getting her? 😊

menopausalmare · 05/12/2024 21:49

My mum is early 80s and says to get her something that makes her feel good that she doesn't have to dust. This year she's getting Olay day and night cream, a William Morris writing set and notebooks plus a mixed planter for the doorstep.

watchuswreckthemic · 05/12/2024 21:56

Similar to others I lost my dad last year and I made a big fuss of her last year and this.
My kids have made her a stocking and an Xmas eve box; we've got for presents

  • things for her to do like crosswords and gardening stuff
  • things for her to enjoy like a photo calendar
  • a magazine subscription
And we are off to Disney land Paris in the autumn to make more memories!!
Barrenfieldoffucks · 05/12/2024 21:57

Ah, much love to all those missing someone. It’s such a hard, poignant time of year.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

DM is 80, and it's the first year without DF.
I am getting her a jigsaw, a bird roost/nest box hanging thing, a couple of books she has asked for and a box of Georgy porgy puddings as she is developing a dessert eating habit these days.

TheGirlWhoLived · 05/12/2024 22:18

Mums getting a variety of things this year. Elemis shampoo and conditioner, new Backdoor shoes, a neck light and some acrylic paint pens

Fuckthecamelyourodeinon · 05/12/2024 22:38

Nothing. I got her a Xmas bulb last year and she looked horrified so I'm not bothering this year. She hasn't bought presents for anyone in years so I don't feel any obligation.

mogtheexcellent · 05/12/2024 22:42

Alpaca wool bird bedding in a bird feeder for the garden. Small xmas tree dec and a christmas cd (andrea corr)
