Thread 9 - the one with a kink for L’Occitaine

Reastie · 04/11/2024 18:52

Thanks @Travelcrazy for the title. It really tickled me!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Ha love the thread title. These mini fridges are half price apparently

fridges

I would be interested in hearing anyone's experience of the mini fridge. My nine year old son has asked for one but I don't even know what he would put in it. He is only allowed fizzy drinks on a Saturday. Fine cheeses?

We have this coca coca mini fridge which is currently on a limited time deal on amazon for £35 ish. (Pink, black and blue are £30ish)

We love it and have had ours almost two years. Use it for camping, great in the summer for a few extra drinks for DD, ditto Christmas time to keep the main fridge free. Yes, they are all a little bit noisy, but it's one of those things you get used to. Highly recommend

Anyone have a free delivery code for Smiggle? They have an offer on their advent calendars and I want one for my boy but £4.99 delivery is a bit steep!

I knew there was something else I was going to ask. Any recommendations for personal name necklaces for tweens? An awesome discount would help too 🤣

I'm also looking for a personalised name necklace. Looked at Next (by Posh Totty) which seem expensive. There are plenty on Etsy but would prefer a recommendation.

Looking for Sterling silver ideally.

Daisy London do personalised name necklaces in silver, I don’t know how the price compares, but their things are usually not overpriced. There’s 10% off for new customers but there’s often other codes around too. Also might be worth waiting for Black Friday?

@SweetPeaPods they don't seem to have the handwriting style I'm looking for. They mainly seem to have the writing on discs, unless I'm being silly

My DDs are mad about Evry Jewels and they have loads of personalised options. They are buy 3, get 2 free at the moment. Delivery and tax adds up but my two have got loads of stuff from there and it seems to be good quality. But not sterling silver.

Has anyone found any good (not likely to catch fire) heated slippers? With a battery, not microwaveable beans. Volt slippers look good but they’re American and I can’t seem to find a uk stockist. I’m a bit nervy of going for random ones on Amazon in case they’re not safe.

HerInfiniteVariety · 05/11/2024 07:17

@44PumpLane check out Sugar and Sloth for lots of cute affirmation cards and things for anxiety or other ‘neurospiciness’ as she calls it - just watch out because she does sweary ranges too!

John Lewis has the Polly Pocket Panda Bubble Tea playset for £8, it was that price on Amazon last week but usually more like £12–16.

@GirlWithTheYellowHat and @RainbowZebraWarrior have you had a look at Abbott Lyon?

I got some really lovely stuff there over the last two years. I was looking for gold / rose gold and the stuff has been worn every day (I’ve never removed it) and it hasn’t tarnished a single bit. Very solid. So I have no reason to think the silver would be any different.

anyway they start having great deals at this time of year and will usually drop to 50% off for Black Friday if you hold your nerve. Until then you’ll get 30-40% off anyway.

they have some nice name necklaces and I have an initial pendant that people always comment on and I have also gifted a lot to others.

Morning! I passed all the talk about magnatiles but now think my 18 month old would love them. Where was the cheapest place please but also that they're safe as she's still in the putting things in mouth phase.

25% off at Disney today. I can’t remember who was looking for the yellow belle dress but they have an alternative one in all sizes. Think it’ll be about £27 with the discount.

also free gift if you spend £75

I still have a 10% off code for Fairfax & Favor if anyone can make use of it? I am also on the lookout for a walking pad (as a Christmas present for postpartum me 🤣🤣) if anyone has seen any bargains? 🌈🙏

I’m on the lookout for one for my husband (that I fully intend to use) and I’m thinking about this walking pad for £109 (it has a £40 voucher) but there’s not loads of reviews. We just bought sit/stand desks so thought it would complement them.
