Thread 9 - the one with a kink for L’Occitaine

1000 replies

Reastie · 04/11/2024 18:52

Thanks @Travelcrazy for the title. It really tickled me!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Stock informer is a handy site http://www.stockinformer.co.uk/default.aspx?fullsite=1

The Inkey List have 30% off everything with the code INSIDER30 (plus free delivery if you spend over £30).

Sephora have 3 for 2 on what they class as stocking fillers (lots of different brands). No code, just add to the basket.

Look Fantastic has 21% off certain items (it worked on skincare but not mascara) with the code 40PLUS.

Monsoon has 20% off with an extra 10% with the code EXTRA10.

Go through TopCashBack and activate the £2 bonus on a £5 spend offer.

@IlovePond and @Solmum1964 thank you for the tips!! I’ll check other places and hold out for BF I think! 🎄🥰

IlovePond · 05/11/2024 11:50

@rhubarbhandsoap - I should also have said: You can sometimes get good deals on L’occitane from their outlet stores, but usually bigger spends get a better discount. When I was at Bicester a couple of weeks ago, L’occitane had 20% off virtually everything, with more discounts/possibly a freebie if you spent more.

IlovePond · 05/11/2024 11:52

I think this has been mentioned before, but the BBC has updated its article on a/c selling scams:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cdxvkkjd9vko

Roserunner · 05/11/2024 12:04

If anyone is on Voxi mobile they have a Gruum free voxi drop that has just gone live. The delivery is free so nothing to lose and may make a good stocking filler, it says its worth £28 but I'd take that with a pinch of salt!

@nothingtoseehereatall I've sent you a PM but on Adidas website it looks like spezials are excluded from any discounts 😕

Zayflower · 05/11/2024 12:09

Thank you to those on the last thread who helped with my art supplies question . Went to the works this morning and got a good selection of bits

Theraffarian · 05/11/2024 12:22

£2 off a £5 spend on topcashback today , if nothing else then you can buy a £5 gift card on there , eg Asda gets the £2 bonus plus 13p extra .

IllBeHomeForChristmas · 05/11/2024 12:23

Does anyone know of any discounts at John Lewis? DP wants a handheld computer game which costs £420. Thanks 😊

And thank you to the person who posted the Laithwaites offer, DP will be delighted with his case of Hawkstone!

Has anyone seen deals on Ugg better than 10% off? I’m looking for Tazz slippers but best price I can find so far is £95 (including discount)

Are you looking for tazz with the platform sole? As they are circa £110. Whereas the regular sole is £85 I think (and still quite chunky). I got the regular ones recently from schuh and used my 20% off birthday code. So you could try setting up a new account and put in a birthday for soonish? It gave me the code on week of my birthday.

STom2 · 05/11/2024 12:34

Also, apologies if it's been mentioned but looks like the 1litre of Baileys is back at Sainsbury's with your nectar card. I've added it to my grovery delivery for tomorrow. I'm sure I sww somewhere that it's available from tomorrow actually. It was pretty popular last year as it seems to normally retail for £23.

If anyone else is looking for alcohol gifts, note that you’ll get £40 off a £80 spend at Laithwaites with a referrals code (see promo codes and referrals board - you’ll find plenty of referral links there).

right now there’s a few wine cases for £95 which comes down to £55 with the code, which is less than £5 per bottle and probably a much better wine than you’d get in the supermarket for £7-8. NB These are subscription cases but the wine typically gets delivered within 48 hours and you can immediately cancel the subscription.

likewise there are some hampers for £85ish - and probably not worth the £85 tbh - but probably better than a £40-ish normal hamper with the referral code.

Can anyone please help with advice on a marble run for a nearly 4 year old? I've just started looking but am feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the different options! Thank you

Fairyliz · 05/11/2024 12:46

Quidco have a £20 bonus off a £60 spend on various toy retailers including Disney and The entertainer.

Love lurking on this thread for top spots and bargains, thanks all

Finally time to ask something.. teen DD wants Adidas Spezials for Christmas (along with every other teen in the universe). Doesn't look to me like any codes whatsoever to be had but if anyone has spotted anything, please let me know! Either on Adidas itself or any of the shoe retailers that stock them.

I got 10% off at Footasylum with First10, best I could find. JD doesn't allow discount on them.

MyStylish40s · 05/11/2024 12:54

Some good deals on Babyliss hairdryers on Look Fantastic

Do you know if this works alongside Disney's own offer that's currently running (25% off)?

Niece and nephew asked for flavoured gin and flavoured vodka Does anyone know of a subscription type thing I can join and then cancel with a good discount? Happy to use someone’s referral if that’s helpful. I’ve looked at the referrals thread and can only find Laithwaites which doesn’t appear to sell what I need. Suggestions welcome.

Not a subscription, but free delivery and 15% off. Their gins are lovely and the bottles look great. They do vodka too but I haven't tried that. https://steelriverdrinks.com/

Thanks for mentioning this I hadn't thought of getting a giftcard. I went for a £5 costa card and the £2 bonus and 40p cashback are both payable already!
