Sorry - I panicked with the title Blush

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

What ages for the Plouise lip balms do we think? I need to buy for a 16-nearly-17 year old, not sure if thats the right group?

Joiedepotato · 29/10/2024 09:23

The fabulous @hobbitharry has sorted me out with Little People before anyone else goes looking. I think this must be one of the kindest corners of the Internet, love to you all 😊

Any inspiration for nursery teacher gifts?! Two young women (16-20) and two women probably in their early 40's! I like to do similar for all! Last year I got the bargain nail polish calendar from this thread (Ciate???) and gifted it for the beginning of December to share in the staff room!

I remember that one! What an excellent (and impressively budget friendly) staff gift idea! Such cute bottles they were too and I was extra happy the box included both top and base coats

It's all about what they've seen on TikTok!

I'd love to get these for my younger but TT and label obsessed nieces. My SIL however has a stick up her ass and would be horrified at the the name and it would be extremely awkward at MILs on the day tempted to do it anyway just to piss her off Grin

Gunnersforthecup · 29/10/2024 09:39

Just bought DD a Smiggle Calendar £15 instead of £35. I was looking for a non-chocolate one. She has been asking for more stationery and is quite pleased with the idea of this! P & P another £4.99 or free if you spend £50. Not sure if it is already posted.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 29/10/2024 09:46

Did we anyone know of brands that aesthetics wise are like P Louise, popular among 10-15 age group, still decent that I could look at? And have names that won't give pearl clutchers a turn?!

There is this set from Plouise. No names that could offend the Pearl clutchers.

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz my dd is 15 and says plouise is too young for her age. She likes victoria secret body sprays, and the lip oil she wants is by rhode (hailey biebers brand apparently) she also likes Elf, the ordinaryand charlotte tilbury lip stuff too

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 29/10/2024 10:00

Ahh thanks both that's helpful x

Teacher gifts- as an ex teacher let me say that we get SOOOO many boxes of biscuits for the staff room etc. In my last school we'd give them to a local care home as we'd never get through them all.

We also don't eat anything homemade (sorry!) as a general rule, especially primary school aged.

Avoid alcohol, as you never know who doesn't drink. And please, no 'best teacher' anything!

My best gifts were Starbucks gift cards, cinema tickets, things like that. But small value, £5 etc, don't push yourselves financially!

It's cliche but so true that we all loved getting handmade cards, I've kept every one of mine and I make a display at christmas on a wall and pin some of them out, they make me smile each year.

Edited

This is good to know, in readiness for the upcoming inevitable school whatsapp chats on the topic. Thank you!!

However I know my daughters pre-school staff don't get much. We live in a pretty poor area and they're all young people on minimum wage. So pretty sure a hamper of nice hot chocolates etc is going to go down well. Especially as it's an outdoor setting and gets cold!!

FrenchieMum2Be · 29/10/2024 10:30

Long time lurker here. Thank for the Busy books mention, I got the Nightmare before Christmas version to use in our homemade advent calendar 😀
My contribution to the thread: if you have the John Lewis app, don't forget to check the Rewards section. Mine includes a £10 voucher to use on women's fashion instore or online. Minimum spend £10 and some categories are excluded like Hosiery, Nightwear, Lingerie, Swimwear, Shoes, Handbags, and Accessories.
Hope it's useful to some of you.

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 29/10/2024 10:41

My girls are 11 & 12 and already have some PLouise and would be thrilled with that set. I'm debating getting them plus one for me 🤣

Yalz · 29/10/2024 10:57

It’s the Boots £10 Tuesday offer day again.

There are a few things that might be suitable as presents, eg candles. There’s also toothpaste Colgate whitening toothpaste reduced from £24 to £10 today, which might make a good stocking filler as at full price it’s so expensive. The reviews for it are reasonable.

At the risk of sounding like a grinch, when we are talking about presents for nursery /school staff, I really worry when I see gimmicky / themed gifts. I cannot think of anything worse than being given £1 earrings that will turn my ears green! I honestly would absolutely prefer a card.

I have lots of teacher friends and family - they all say the same thing - the things they treasure most are the cards and messages, and the most welcome gifts are edible (chocs/biscuits) - as even if they don’t like them they can pass them on to someone.

User236792 · 29/10/2024 11:29

I suppose the more general point is that it’s only a bargain if it’s actually something people want. I love these threads but I have to really restrain myself from buying too many things just because they are a bargain!!

I guess it's horse for courses - our nursery teachers loved them & didn't end up with any obvious green ear look - they've never made my ears green either - perhaps the metal these days is better than it might have been years ago - we were pleased with our choice as we spotted them wearing them on lots of occasions.

User236792 · 29/10/2024 11:35

Fair enough @IVbumble, and you know your own nursery teachers better than I do 😊 I think you are right, horses for courses!

hugely popular and a great deal, I’d go for it!
