Sorry - I panicked with the title Blush

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Clinique website have a spinwheel discount on their website, up to 20% off on a £45 spend, also can get freebie’s on the spin or 15%

IlovePond · 28/10/2024 08:10

My elemis cream order from Amazon has been cancelled. Thought it was too good to be true but worth a go!

Mine has been dispatched but the subscribe and save has been cancelled, not bothered by that as I got the initial discount and would have cancelled it anyway!

IlovePond · 28/10/2024 08:13

Btw, I am on the lookout for new eyeshadow and blusher as I have just chucked out all my horrendously expensive stuff, (belatedly realised it all contained talc). Any recommendations for bargainous replacements?

While we are on the subject of White Fox I'd really appreciate some advice.
We're older parents to an 11 year old girl who has just started secondary. We don't have a clue what's 'in fashion' and she's autistic and struggling. We've just found out she's been bullied a bit after a recent non-uniform day (just wore leggings and a favourite tee). I want to get her a few bits for Xmas just to help her blend in a bit, she has literally no interest in fashion, won't choose clothes online or in physical shops so does just wear what's put in front of her. She also has some physical struggles meaning she's already a size 12 and hates anything tight or restrictive.
Apologies for the essay but I've been here years and you are such a kind bunch I wondered if anyone could offer advice? So far I have a pair of Nike air airforce ones which I notice every one seems to be wearing, and a Wednesday Adams tee. Would White Fox be appropriate for this age, or any other suggestions would be so appreciated.

So sorry to hear your daughter has experienced this - some kids can be so cruel. Agree with all of the other suggestions. In this house it is mostly joggers / leggings. They have the Nike Pro but often opt for plain black from Primark (fluffy lined) and surprisingly Matalan do some plain black ones in their sports section (women's) that my 14 year old old lives in.
Hoodies here are PLT (Pretty Little Thing), and plain baggy zip ups.
Trainers are Air Force 1s or Nike Air Max. Also agree that PE bag is usually a JD sports draw string bag.

Oh or a Kalimba is also a nice instrument- it’s quite hard to make a loud/bad noise with, it makes a lovely sound

That is lovely, thanks I have ordered a couple

Amazonmulu · 28/10/2024 08:49

While we are on teen / tween clothes... Where is the cheapest place to get Nike kids trainers?

Oh that's a shame mine is out for delivery which surprised me to be honest.

Houseofsardines · 28/10/2024 08:52

@IlovePond Ciate is talc free and they have a set for £40 reduced on their website with 10% off first order. For bronzer- guerlain do a liquid bronzer, not a bargain but it lasts for ages!

IlovePond · 28/10/2024 09:00

Thanks @Houseofsardines

Im so behind with this thread with half term and going on holiday 😆 🤣

Missed the vertuo machine I do not need and kinetic sand that I do need 😭

We have a vertuo and I bought this as I'm far too cheap to pay over 50p a capsule!

I need to get one of these converters but what ml do you need? I don’t drink cofffee so no idea how they work. Is the ml depending on amount of coffee the pod makes?

Possibly already posted but in case not: If anyone is looking for bargain hoodie blankets I’ve found the Dreamscene brand from OHS really good (I have an assortment of them Grin). They have a sale on right now with some as low as 5.99. I’ve only bought the adult size but they’ve got some really cute ones for kids too. From what I’ve read they’re not as heavy as the Oodie but I believe some people find the Oodie too warm/heavy. These are really cosy imo and wash great.

On the same site I’ve just ordered each of my teens a cuddle cushion.

We are also older parents.

I find it very difficult to get my tween and teen with autistic traits/ diagnosis to go clothes shopping. I quite often have ordered from TK Maxx so they can try a few different things at home and I can send back what they don't want.

One big change for my 12 year old daughter has been, that she really enjoyed cute, matching, colourful clothes in primary, but has moved onto more muted tones as is fashionable in secondary. She likes comfy clothes, so goes for T shirts and leggings a lot, too, and the shape of that quite suits her, more fitted around the legs but still comfy. She has some tie dyed Levi's hoodies that she really likes, that give some more pattern to the outfit. We're lucky that her school is academic and it is very acceptable not to be hugely into make-up and accessories.

Her older brother is very into his band T shirts, and black everything, she just might be heading that way in the future.

I would also contact the school, as there should not be bullying full stop. Definitely not around clothes, and most of all not around autism. You don't want to spend a load of money on new clothes and then, having spotted a vulnerability, the bullies continue on.

Does she have SENCO support?

Anyone know if Superdrug ever have discount codes? About to spend £80 on aftershave 😰

I'm tempted to do the same. Dd loved it last year and asked for it for this. £40 unless I can find any discount. The customer service and quality of socks were fabulous.

I'm sure this year they're going to triple and quadruple check the website before releasing any sock deals. Which is a shame as it was the most exciting deal for last year 😂

Not sure if anyone else has already mentioned but Microscooters website has 20% off and ends tonight at midnight

Have you tried offcuts?

IlovePond · 28/10/2024 09:53

Btw: I found this site that has lists of ingredients in skincare/makeup:
https://www.skincarisma.com/
I have started chucking out all my stuff, (loads😿), that has talc and am looking for replacements.
This site lists talc as safe, (which I know is one opinion), but it is good at identifying which products have it, if that’s a concern for you.

Cosmetic and Skincare Ingredient Analyzer Tool | Skincarisma

Skincarisma helps you understand the ingredients (and their effects) inside your cosmetic and skincare products so that you can make the right choice for your skin.

My Elemis has been dispatched too.

I’m now on the look out for a good ortho electric toothbrush deal as DD getting braces in December 🎄.
