Sorry - I panicked with the title Blush

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but John Lewis currently have 20% off their own brand toys, they have some cute wooden food. They also have 20% off Mellisa and Doug but not sure how that compares with the recent Amazon deals.

Ilovepugs2017 · 27/10/2024 21:58

For the Elemis offer that was posted has anyone actually tried it? I’m tempted but never tried it before so dunno if it’s worth splashing out 😂

Also I’ve always found Amazon to have the best customer service in terms of returns and refunds

While we are on the subject of White Fox I'd really appreciate some advice.
We're older parents to an 11 year old girl who has just started secondary. We don't have a clue what's 'in fashion' and she's autistic and struggling. We've just found out she's been bullied a bit after a recent non-uniform day (just wore leggings and a favourite tee). I want to get her a few bits for Xmas just to help her blend in a bit, she has literally no interest in fashion, won't choose clothes online or in physical shops so does just wear what's put in front of her. She also has some physical struggles meaning she's already a size 12 and hates anything tight or restrictive.
Apologies for the essay but I've been here years and you are such a kind bunch I wondered if anyone could offer advice? So far I have a pair of Nike air airforce ones which I notice every one seems to be wearing, and a Wednesday Adams tee. Would White Fox be appropriate for this age, or any other suggestions would be so appreciated.

Teenagers still love white fox
nike and adidas are still worn a lot by teens
wide legged jeans seem to be making a comeback amongst the older teens
cargo trousers are worn by a lot of kids at non uniform days
skinny crop t shirts and a crop hoodie are worn a lot but so are baggier t shirts
A lot like Primark and SHEIN for clothes so it’s more about the style than the brand names for a lot of them
Nike air and converse popular

imnottoofussed · 27/10/2024 22:03

Ok I may have just purchased 3 Elemis 🐑

2 are gifts honest 😂

There's also a peptide4 overnight peel which has a massive reduction but not sure I fancy that one

Ilovepugs2017 · 27/10/2024 22:11

Mine only comes up as save 5% with subscribe and save for the Elemis, anyone know why? 🙈

Oliveoily · 27/10/2024 22:17

If anyone has an Argos code they could PM me, for money off a £70 spend, I'd be very grateful :)

White Fox hoodies ( they had 40% off last Black Friday)
Favourite band merchandise t-shirts ( H & M have a lot of different bands and artists and they are t-shirts not cropped.
They like plain zip up hoodies that are oversized too- My Niece calls them zip ups and we usually get them from H & M.
Teens seem to like Bershka and H & M
Adidas Campus trainers are all the rage at the moment and Uggs ( both quite pricey but if DD is size 5.5 or under you or can get the youth or junior sizes which are cheaper and exactly the same). ( Adidas had 35% off on the app last Black Friday)

Jeans ( not skinny, flares or wide leg are back in) leggings ( Black, Dark Brown and Burgundy)

Hollister hoodies are popular

Hope this helps- what previous posters have said keep a look out at what Teens are wearing when your out and about in your area.

Has anyone spotted Nintendo Switch games on sale? Specifically looking for Kirby!

Just found this thread & it looks great.
Anyone know any offers for a kindle or a smartphone?

Also, loose leaf tea or the individual infusers for small leaf? My current infusers aren't doing their job.

If you don't mind second hand /refurbished tech, then there are some great bargains to be had. I have bought nearly all my phones second hand in the last decade or so - most recently from Giffgaff when I got a good as new iPhone 13 (when they were new!) with 512GB storage for less than a new iPhone 12 with only 128GB storage. - and it was pristine. Amazing bargain. it was pure fluke I spotted it - I couldn't have afforded so much memory usually so wasn't looking for it, but it was cheaper than getting one with less memory on too - so worth checking out all sizes! I've also been lucky on Music Magpie for good bargains iPhones so would check them out for Kindles too.

And if you want books for your Kindle (or indeed many other reading formats) - make sure you're signed up to BookBub and Freebooksy for lots of daily free books - you can choose the types of book you're interested in - it's a great way to build up plenty of books to have by you

Boots have a half price The Ordinary Hydrate & Brighten set for £29 - the box doesn't look very exciting but I'm tempted to get it for myself as I use their products anyway!

I need ideas for my nieces aged 16, 20, 22
budget £20

previous hits have been pj,s and a book, make up, cocktails, gin for the eldest……just this year I’m fresh out of ideas.

How about one of the personal smoothie 'on the go blenders' from Cusinart? I've bought one for my ds thanks to spotting the link on this thread last week, a snip at £20 (including free delivery) each rather than £100 (although Amazon has them for about £45 which I suspect might be more realistic a price).

They had good reviews on Amazon and can be recharged with a usb cable and taken out on the go - great if they want healthy drinks, fancy cocktails or to make easy pancake batter or pesto or pasta sauces etc. Like most of the other posters on here who also ordered, I didn't get any confirmation about delivery, they just arrived.

https://www.cuisinart.co.uk/

Alternatively how about a Lego flower - either a smaller one with something fun to go with it or one that costs the full £20 or so?

Also - do they have the big Oodie type oversized hoodies? Various suggestions of places to get them on this thread - I've had them from 5 Pound Stuff (I think that's the name) that turned out to be genuine oodies - which ended up being not worn a lot as were too warm!), Siena ones from OHS and a teddy fleece one from Dunelm which have all been worn lots and my particular favourite - one of the Siena Zipped ones - also from OHS.

I've ordered the poncho towels this year for gifts from OHS - between £8-£15 - thinking they will be good for those who like having the big hoodies on in the summer but also for using as a towel all year. Waiting for them to arrive so no idea what the quality will be like. OHS also has some microfibre beach towels to put on long sunbeds so have got some of those to try too as xmas presents - they were £2-£10.

IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile · 28/10/2024 00:10

Thank you so much for all your suggestions and kind encouragement. Sorry I derailed the thread a bit, but I honestly didn't know who else to ask. I've had some great advice and ideas.
You are all amazing and I appreciate each and every comment ❤️

Someone posted their link to Rakuten £25 back for a £30 spend. I just want to check, I went through the link, signed up, and now do I just shop as usual and it'll appear somewhere?

Lidlisthebusiness · 28/10/2024 00:55

@headshoulderskneestoesheart Very have a Kirby game for £38.99 instead of £49.99.

If anyone has a next account (not a credit account just a normal one), I logged in on Saturday and a pop up for £10 off came up, no minimum spend. I used it towards a new swimming costume for my holiday(which hasn’t turned up in time for my holiday 🙈), I’ve just logged back in and it’s offered me about £10 off! So it’s worth checking

Has anyone seen/had a good fidget toy adventure calendar? There seem to be so many and I know they are all full of tat but was wondering if there were ones of better quality than others? Thanks!

Vimaybe · 28/10/2024 07:32

Do prime day usually repeat their offers, or are they a new jumble of sales? Appreciate I'm asking you all to look into your crystal balls, I'm just suddenly in need of a Melissa and Doug ice cream set but our neice/nephew budget is £30.

Dogmatix34 · 28/10/2024 07:32

I bought This from an actual Champneys spa for £29 but saw in Boots yesterday it’s even cheaper. It’s a lovely set and is very similar to the lovely M&S Apothecary baskets.

@IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile yes white fox would be perfect for this age group. Also converse are a big hit, the platform boots - think they’re called Eva. Also my DD is 13 and loves her Uniqlo bag.

On a side note, I am so so sorry your dd was bullied on non uniform day, that is absolutely awful, kids can be so horrible.

@IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile kids are awful aren't they. You should speak to the school for sure but similar age teens I know I'd think about

  • avoiding band or logo tees unless it's something she's really into (because it inevitably causes conversation or has people liking/disliking). For a sweatshirt american university logos seem popular and you can get these in primark
  • Nike pro leggings are really popular but they are super tight. A good alternative would be fitted yoga pants/ slim joggers from Nike. Nike is really popular and as you've done trainers are super important to be branded to them.
  • New look for jeans
  • Hollister (loads bnwt on vinted) for cargo pants or dresses but it does come up small
-white fox is still popular but if she's likely to not notice when it's no longer (see reference to moving to adenola) I might avoid it

As an adult I try to avoid fast fashion but in this case I think you might be best in Primark and HandM because most of what's there is current

I hate that anyone has to do this because she should just be accepted how she is but I think it's a lovely thing to do.

Just double check the Rakuten t&cs: someone on IG posted this offer but said it should be £36 min spend, due to being "£30 excl VAT".
