Sorry - I panicked with the title Blush

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

While we are on the subject of White Fox I'd really appreciate some advice.
We're older parents to an 11 year old girl who has just started secondary. We don't have a clue what's 'in fashion' and she's autistic and struggling. We've just found out she's been bullied a bit after a recent non-uniform day (just wore leggings and a favourite tee). I want to get her a few bits for Xmas just to help her blend in a bit, she has literally no interest in fashion, won't choose clothes online or in physical shops so does just wear what's put in front of her. She also has some physical struggles meaning she's already a size 12 and hates anything tight or restrictive.
Apologies for the essay but I've been here years and you are such a kind bunch I wondered if anyone could offer advice? So far I have a pair of Nike air airforce ones which I notice every one seems to be wearing, and a Wednesday Adams tee. Would White Fox be appropriate for this age, or any other suggestions would be so appreciated.

If it's half term in your area, try and keep an eye out on what the local tweens/teens are wearing. I find it can vary depending on the area. Your senco may be able to give you tips on what the kids are wearing in school

Beingacatbed · 27/10/2024 20:32

@IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile
so sorry uour dd was bullied, teen girls can be so cruel.
my dd and friends wear: feet- air force ones or converse and for xmas has asked for adidas spezial (apparently the latest trend) and ugg tazz platforms.
clothes wise its baggy or boot cut jeans or nike pro leggings or baggy grey joggers. with slouchy jumpers like white fox.

Sorry, my earlier post was for @IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile

YeahWellWhyNot · 27/10/2024 20:35

@IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile I can't specifically help you but just wanted to say what a great mum you're being. Different difficulties for me as a pre teen/teen but similarly bullied and my god I'd have loved my parents at the time to 'get it'. Best wishes to you 😌

okayhescereal · 27/10/2024 20:35

@Reastie think the vampire bat has some legs for a new thread title! If you're not sold on 'the one where we all craved crumpets' 😃

mummydoris2006 · 27/10/2024 20:37

Oh @IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile parenting a teen that doesn't conform to the 'norm' is so difficult, my heart goes out to you and your DD. You both sound amazing and your ideas sound perfect.
I just want to say my DD is now 18, school was difficult but she's on her 3rd year of a degree apprenticeship and when she graduated next year will be the youngest woman her age to have the qualification to mend combine harvesters and plant machinery.
She found her 'tribe' once she left school and became a young farmer. She has a better social life than me, a fantastic career and a lovely boyfriend. I promise there's a light at the end of the tunnel 😊

Now looking for a bargainous saucepan set. If anyone has any suggestions.

I have the Go Cook forged aluminium pan set, frying pan, grill pan and saute pan from Tesco. I've had them a while but think they're still available and they work really well on my gas hob. Particularly love the extra handle on the saute pan and the built in strainers on the saucepan lids. I think the 3 pan set was around £55. I also have Clubcard Plus so get an extra 10% off all Tesco brands.
They come with a very long guarantee so worth keeping a copy of your receipt and a photo of the packaging as Tesco are very good about replacing items if you have this information.

Likely to be a misprice but this is an absolute bargain if you have Elemis lovers in your gift list

TheGriffle · 27/10/2024 20:43

@IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile my dd is 11 and just started secondary, she currently lives in joggers and what I’d describe as ‘Varsity’? Jumpers, the ones that say New York, Miami etc across the front. She’s really not into labels but I noticed her friend had a White Fox hoodie on the other day when we saw her. She’s also an adult size 10/12 in clothes and loves things in Primark the most.

IlovePond · 27/10/2024 20:43

@IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile - this sort of awful bullying is why non-uniform day was banned at the school I have dealings with. I am so sorry your DD has experienced such nasty behaviour.

White Fox is popular with tweens round here, as are baggy tracksuit bottoms and Nike trainers. Accessories from Claire’s are also ‘in’. Hair/hair-care is also a ‘big deal’ and area of interest for tweens/teens of my acquaintance.

Edited to say: I agree with a previous poster - what’s ‘in’ varies quite widely from area to area, so it’s a good idea to do a bit of surreptitious tween/teen style watching in Primark, McDonalds, Claire’s, walking round town, etc. over the next few days.

For anyone whose children love the little live pets range, I've just ordered the new little live pets mama surprise rabbits for £49.99 from Very. Usually priced £64.99 and was expecting them to drop in price so very happy with that saving. It's a limiter time deal.

I also got the lego friends pet adoption day set reduced from £40 - £30 which is exclusive to Very (and the lego store obviously).

Lots of things like polly pockets are reduced too

I just looked and the entertainer have the little mama surprise mouse set for £15 then a further 10% off with EXTRA10 so £13.50 in total.

I was about to buy but noticed a lot of reviews saying it the jar isn’t full - I’ve not had this particular product before so unsure whether it’s normal for the jar to not be full to the top?
Other Elemis creams I’ve had were full to the top of the jar with a cap on

@IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile if you want to tell us roughly where you are in the country us teen mum’s could help with more tailored advice.
Really sorry your DD was bullied, it’s heartbreaking.

I've ordered too, and assume I will be able to return or claim a refund if the pot is clearly used?!

Just a heads up re: Sainsbury’s slinky/silky Xmas pjs - the ones that come on the cardboard hanger, tightly wrapped in card.

I bought the GP ones during the 25% off deal. When I unwrapped them, the cardboard wrapper had damaged the knap of the fabric across the chest. It wouldn’t ‘rub’ out and looked awful.

I took it back and was going to exchange, but all the ones hanging up had similar damage to the fabric. I was disappointed, as they were really nice.

If you’ve bought some to put away for Xmas, I suggest checking for damage now, whilst still able to return if necessary.

Blixem · 27/10/2024 21:18

I missed the second half of the last thread so apologies if it's already been posted.
Hobbycraft have 20% off a £40 spend
I got some Orchard toys games/ jigsaws on 3 for 2 aswell and it's free shipping if you spend over £25.

Favouritefruits · 27/10/2024 18:54

@Iggi999 thank you for the hobby craft houses, I’ve been desperate to get one for my cats 😂 but £20 seems a bit more reasonable!

They're only £10! I suspect you'll have to do the colouring in yourself 😃

Totally just bought that for myself! Thanks for the tip.
Ive bought this cream from Amazon before and was full with a foil top so fingers crossed.

GreatFinch · 27/10/2024 21:40

@IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile so sorry to hear that. Here it's all crocs (they often have good app only offers) Nike pro leggings/shorts (I've got Xs from ASOS for DD before when they have a good offer cheaper then kids) Primark do good dupes of the sol de janiro sprays. And here it has to be a JD sports carrier bag for your pe kit.
