Feeling quite delighted to have most of the dc’s shopping done and under €500 so far! I can tend to go crazy at Christmas 😬

I have spent €436 so far. And I have bought

DD11
Jumper
Nike leggings
Sephora goodies -bath bombs, lip gloss, hair oil, travel containers.
Initialled Glass cup
Small panda bag for accessories
Panda Teddy
Sanitary wear bag
Slushy maker
New York jigsaw
Eiffel Tower puzzle
Socks
MGA miniverse set
Full length Mirror for her bedroom
clothes rail for her bedroom
Small panda ornament
Panda hair towel
Panda face mitt
Nintendo sports game
Nintendo sports accessory pack

DS9
Hoody
Lion teddy
Elephant teddy
Football pen Holder
Vbucks voucher
Fidget popper game
Darts board

I still have a good bit to get for DS though he is getting a PlayStation (second hand) and a game and couple of Lego sets.

DD is pretty much done I might pop into primark and get some baskets for the bottom shelf of the clothes rail and pjs etc

Have you totalled your spend so far?

Ā£180 per child is not a lot in the world I am in. (For Christmas.)

I bet the posters saying this think nothing of spending a 4-figure sum on a phone. Or £500 on a gym membership.

Ignore the miseries and beraters @Positivenancy

I would report your thread though (via your first post) and ask MN to move it to the Christmas board. Too many salty Scrooges on here.

.

Edited

I don't have that sort of money!

Rosesanddaffs · 20/10/2024 17:37

@Positivenancy just wanted to say well done on being so organised and ignore the mean spirited posts.

I have started my Christmas shopping early too as like yourself, I want to enjoy December xx

LazyOnSunday · 20/10/2024 17:38

I see we've already had a mention of 'tat' on the thread. šŸ˜… As well as 'you'll do them no favours buying them so much'.

Bingo card is filling up.

BunnyLake · 20/10/2024 17:38

My kids are grown now so my Christmas shopping will start in December and they’ll just get a couple of low cost presents each. I used to be very organised when they were younger so well done on getting it all done nice and early and not ridiculously extravagant.

RedCedars · 20/10/2024 17:21

The mirror and the clothes rail are not Christmas presents. They’re things you should provide as standard - it’s like someone getting you a plug extension lead as a gift.

The clothing rail yeah the full length mirror - disagree it's not an essential and potentially dangerous for a young teen

helgel · 20/10/2024 17:39

I always shopped early. I usually regretted it when they told me what they really wanted with a few days to go.

Thesheerrelief · 20/10/2024 17:40

Brickiscool · 20/10/2024 17:29

Ā£0.

Although I've already started eating mince pies .....

Playing your part. Contributing to the Christmas spirit. Keep it up!

purplebeansprouts · 20/10/2024 17:00

Why are you bragging about how much you've spent??

And assuming this "Sanitary wear bag" is something to keep period products in I don't think that's a gift that should be given at christmas rather if she could do with one just give it to her now

It would be fine as a stocking filler but not an under the tree present.

GivingitToGod · 20/10/2024 17:41

Why is Christmas shopping in October something to be proud of?

Good point and I don't understand the point in listing all the presents u have bought. Seems competitive and everyone has different spending availability at that time of year. So all in all, I don't think it's a good idea .

She is absolutely fine with getting a full length mirror. She just wants to see her full self before she leaves the house…like most normal people.

She is obsessed with it to be fair…two of her friends have them. It’s a weekly conversation. Of course I didn’t have that as an 11-year-old because I got mine when I was 10.

Shes obsessed with her period?

We're quite lucky because our youngest does this but fortunately has a birthday a fortnight later so that operates as a catch-all. But yeah, the Christmas eve gut punch is brutal.

LazyOnSunday · 20/10/2024 17:42

I forgot, I've also bought my son a jacket from Very. I had a £30 off code so got it for £50 instead of £80, which I'm pleased with.

I've also bought my partner a jumper, concert tickets and some art that he's been after for a while.

So I've made more of a start that I thought I had.

Yeah I don’t do stocking it just all goes in a pile under the tree. Done!

Yeah it's the listing everything that feels show offy tbh

You need the Christmas board. Otherwise you are just going to get lots of people being mean. I'm with you, always do all Christmas shopping way before Christmas. Am on a roll at the moment, bought lots on the last Amazon days and just done a Boots order, mainly Star Christmas and have saved a fortune which I'm going to spend on ME.

That's fine. Just speaking from experience one of my stepdaughters had to have hers removed at their mums as she kept taking side on selfies to see how "fat" she was so was just trying to give everyone pause for thought before they rush out to get one

Yeah šŸ˜‚ she’s so curious. It’s a bit of a waiting game that pops into conversation every so often. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Just started today. I got a £50 free voucher for a toy store from a cash back site, bought 9 things on sale totally £70 minus £50 free voucher so £20 spend. The stuff before sale price was £140 so it's a good start.

My kids don't get that many gifts, but for DD I've got:

Rainbow magic Beginner Reader Books
Waldorf doll
Europe & UK jigsaws
Plaster of paris kit
Personalised Book
Rapunzel Doll
Styling Head Barbie

Plus bits for stocking, advent calendar and Christmas Eve Box.

I've not started for SD yet as she's just had her birthday and we've not given her her presents yet. When she's had time to work out what she still wants, we'll start her Xmas shopping.

We've got most of the gifts for family and friends, some of the alcohol and non-perishable food we have at Xmas, and spent over £250 on Christmas experiences.

We usually spend a total of £1500 on gifts, food, decorations and Christmassy days out. I'm always amazed that people can afford to spend £1000 a kid on gifts or whatever because there's so many other expenses at Christmas time.

Or maybe it's your problem. OP isn't judging what anyone else buys it doesn't buy. I like these threads and have got some good ideas in the past for my own children from other peoples lists.
