Feeling quite delighted to have most of the dc’s shopping done and under €500 so far! I can tend to go crazy at Christmas 😬

I have spent €436 so far. And I have bought

DD11
Jumper
Nike leggings
Sephora goodies -bath bombs, lip gloss, hair oil, travel containers.
Initialled Glass cup
Small panda bag for accessories
Panda Teddy
Sanitary wear bag
Slushy maker
New York jigsaw
Eiffel Tower puzzle
Socks
MGA miniverse set
Full length Mirror for her bedroom
clothes rail for her bedroom
Small panda ornament
Panda hair towel
Panda face mitt
Nintendo sports game
Nintendo sports accessory pack

DS9
Hoody
Lion teddy
Elephant teddy
Football pen Holder
Vbucks voucher
Fidget popper game
Darts board

I still have a good bit to get for DS though he is getting a PlayStation (second hand) and a game and couple of Lego sets.

DD is pretty much done I might pop into primark and get some baskets for the bottom shelf of the clothes rail and pjs etc

Have you totalled your spend so far?

Your position as a single parent doesn't address the issue.
I am a single parent also. Its poor form to boast about spending hundreds on your children on a public forum where some people are quite openly struggling to feed their children .

I actually find this thread quite shocking and anti what Christmas is meant to be about.why don't you take a proportion of those hundreds and donate it to a toy appeal or Crisis or donate some presents to a food bank

ByMerryKoala · 20/10/2024 18:11

I'd love to be this organised. I'm having to hold my nerve and wait for the Black Friday sales because my kids seem to only want techie stuff this year that will inevitably be discounted. Oh and clothing - given their capacity to shoot out of sizes overnight it's no good getting anything yet.

WhatsInTheRug · 20/10/2024 18:12

JeanLundegaard · 20/10/2024 17:36

I’ve bought 2 different people some tickets for shows next year but that’s all. I wouldn’t give a clothes rail for Christmas, but I’m still scarred from the year when there was a huge box with my name on it and it was a shoe rack, gutted.

But she's asked for the tail.....she wants it. And mum has said she will get some extras for storage at the bottom. So why not??

Tickets on Christmas Day for an event weeks in the future....well, I'm not sure that's the best gift either but each to their own!

@tearsandtiaras this is in the Christmas forum now. I’m allowed to talk about Christmas and what I have spent/bought and still be aware that others are struggling. Those are not mutually exclusive. It’s not boasting.

So far I've bought my daughter:

Jewellery
Lego
Art supplies
Lamp
Jeans
3 tops

and my son so far has:

Jewellery
Lego
T-shirt's
Keyboard
Weights
Concert ticket

That cost about £800. My daughter also will be getting a drawing tablet, perfume, mini printer and other bits, my son will also be getting aftershave, trainers, possibly a graphics card and other bits.

WhatsInTheRug · 20/10/2024 18:15

@purplebeansprouts yes maybe she is! Most girls discuss periods....it's healthy! They will be prepared.....why what's your view on periods??

And how is a full length mirror 'dangerous' for an 11 year old ( not a young teen)

WhatsInTheRug · 20/10/2024 18:17

tearsandtiaras · 20/10/2024 17:49

I think with the cost of living crisis this is in poor form boasting about money spent.
Not every parent can afford to spend anything near that

No it's not poor form

I actually think this is quite a nice thread, and I'm usually blahhh about Christmas, most defo not an organised shopper and do it all in December.

I was in B&M today and a couple had a trolly full of toys, selection boxes etc I thought good on them doing it in October, I don't know how many children they were buying for or their financial situation but there was no judgment or tutting, in fact me and mum both commented how nice it was.

I have a older child than you OP and also a single parent, there is still the big pile of presents on Christmas morning and will probably continue to do so till they move out šŸ˜†

Well done on being organised and planning such thoughtful gifts for your children, they will have a wonderful time and will appreciate what you have done for them.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 20/10/2024 18:06

Ah yes, buying bonkers amounts of presents - the true meaning of Christmas.

What is the true meaning of Christmas to you?

It is different for every family.....there's no 'correct' meaning

babyproblems · 20/10/2024 18:20

Good on your for being organised but this seems really excessive to me…do they need all this ā€˜stuff’?? When ds is older I will just do one or two big ones and a few small ones. Everyone’s’ houses are already rammo surely unless you are doing mega declutters v v regularly. I’ll be honest and say I also wondered how many miles all that stuff has travelled around the world..!!! Seems ott to me.

Why the fuck are people criticising certain gifts that OP is buying? Her daughter wants a mirror, who the fuck is anyone to judge. OP knows her daughter better than you.

Last year I asked my niece what she wanted and she asked for a full length mirror with storage for her jewellery so that's what I bought her. She loves it and was very happy.

ByMerryKoala · 20/10/2024 18:23

Oh, no, op. This is a bit like when you find a barn full of friendly people who take you in in a zombie movie but you've accidentally brought the hoardes with you.

EverythingIAm · 20/10/2024 18:24

I actually find this thread quite shocking and anti what Christmas is meant to be about.

We decide what Xmas is about for ourselves. We're not religious so for us its gifts, food and seeing family and friends.

Isntshelovely2024 · 20/10/2024 18:24

That list is quite insane. I’m probably looking at getting our child 7 gifts as a maximum

PinkGirl14 · 20/10/2024 18:25

Wow im shocked at some of these comments šŸ™ˆ i think OP has done amazing with how many presents for the price spent! I also can’t understand how a mirror and clothes rail shouldn’t be considered a gift? My daughter has asked for a Hollywood mirror for Christmas so thats what she’s getting, she also gets it pjs, socks, clothes every year and loves them šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø my favourite gifts every year are fluffy pjs and socks so to me it’s completely normal, my daughter wanted her room done for her birthday so she got loads of stuff for her room and she appreciated it all. Don’t listen to all the nasty comments OP there all obviously grinches that are not bothered much by Christmas 🤣 in my family we love going all out for Christmas as we all start early to get bargains so by the time we get to December we end up with loads, not bothered what anyone else thinks it’s just how we do it. Each to their own I say so people who don’t like it scroll on and don’t comment.

Addictedtococacola · 20/10/2024 18:25

I've not even started got 4 birthdays before Christmas

StarSlinger · 20/10/2024 18:26

Something the want...etc. I can't bring myself to type it all out.

I moved this time last year and took virtually nothing with me. I am actually a minimalist person, i declutter a lot. Once clothes don’t fit they are passed on. The mirror and rail will be in her room for a good few years. Lego never looses value to be fair. A lot of her bits and bobs are small enough.

I miss the days when my kids lists look like this.

I remember buying Thor's hammer and Toy Story toys for my son many years ago. He is now 21.

Great list. 😊

I haven't got much yet. Picked up the Oculus 3 for my son as it was on sale for £460.

Not sure what else to get him.
