Feeling quite delighted to have most of the dc’s shopping done and under €500 so far! I can tend to go crazy at Christmas 😬

I have spent €436 so far. And I have bought

DD11
Jumper
Nike leggings
Sephora goodies -bath bombs, lip gloss, hair oil, travel containers.
Initialled Glass cup
Small panda bag for accessories
Panda Teddy
Sanitary wear bag
Slushy maker
New York jigsaw
Eiffel Tower puzzle
Socks
MGA miniverse set
Full length Mirror for her bedroom
clothes rail for her bedroom
Small panda ornament
Panda hair towel
Panda face mitt
Nintendo sports game
Nintendo sports accessory pack

DS9
Hoody
Lion teddy
Elephant teddy
Football pen Holder
Vbucks voucher
Fidget popper game
Darts board

I still have a good bit to get for DS though he is getting a PlayStation (second hand) and a game and couple of Lego sets.

DD is pretty much done I might pop into primark and get some baskets for the bottom shelf of the clothes rail and pjs etc

Have you totalled your spend so far?

Some posters are picking apart OPs purchases which is really unfair
Every family is different
For example I have never put toothbrushes pants or pyjamas in a stocking but others do So what?!!!

LazyOnSunday · 20/10/2024 17:23

Oh god, please ask to move this to the Christmas topic OP, where hopefully the people who don't want to talk about what they have bought their children stay away from. Ffs.

Or alternatively they could just scroll on by and not open this thread...maybe??

Blanketyre · 20/10/2024 17:25

WhatsInTheRug · 20/10/2024 17:20

Oh op the judging!! You've got to laugh at these silly mumsnetters!

It's literally AIBU.

Positivenancy · 20/10/2024 17:26

WhatsInTheRug · 20/10/2024 17:23

Maybe....just maybe....her Dd has ASKED for these items

Now there's a thought eh!?

@WhatsInTheRug yes she did!! She’s 11 and wants to feel a bit more grown up. She doesn’t want a wardrobe, she thinks they are too big. So her chest of drawers will stay and I’ll add in these.

OP posts:
WhatsInTheRug · 20/10/2024 17:27

Yeah aibu not let's point and laugh

HermoniePotter · 20/10/2024 17:27

Positivenancy · 20/10/2024 17:04

I’m not bragging just a bit proud…sorry if that offends you. The sanitary wear bag is cute and she loves that kind of stuff! She doesn’t NEED it yet but she’s 11 so she probably will at some point.

Don’t try and justify yourself OP, there’s no need everyone has a different budget for Christmas. Just report your thread and get it moved to the Christmas Board, you’ll get nicer replies there.

Very distasteful post considering there is a cost of living crisis for a lot of people.

Oh ffs.

Should people not post about their holiday because some people cant afford to go on one? Maybe people can stop mentioning their close relationships with their mum because my mum is horrible? šŸ™„šŸ™„šŸ™„

Brickiscool · 20/10/2024 17:29

Ā£0.

Although I've already started eating mince pies .....

Sugarcoldturkey · 20/10/2024 17:29

WhatsInTheRug · 20/10/2024 17:23

@Sugarcoldturkey no

Op is doing it HER way not YOURS

It's up to her and her family, she is doing NOTHING wrong.

Why did she post in AIBU if she doesn't want honest feedback?

Studies have shown too many toys can be detrimental.

It's also imo not necessarily a kind thing to habituate older kids to lots of expensive gifts and getting whatever they want. It can make their adult life harder than it needs to be.

If OP had posted in the Xmas section I wouldn't have said anything. But AIBU is designed for people to say when they think something is unreasonable.

LazyOnSunday · 20/10/2024 17:29

Or alternatively they could just scroll on by and not open this thread...maybe?

I'd love that, but it won't happen and OPs thread will be ruined by arseholes.

' The sanitary wear bag is cute and she loves that kind of stuff! She doesn’t NEED it yet but she’s 11 so she probably will at some point.'

please do not give what could be considered an essential item for Christmas

and she may be highly embarrassed to receive it at Christmas in public - in front of her father and / or in front of her brother.

have you been shopping with her to buy sanitary products yet ?
if so give her this item now and say you saw it and thought it was ' cute ' and she could put it away / aside for later use
if not, say to her that you are going shopping for these items and this is something to start her off.

Yes we’ve been through all of that. This was just a cute little extra I saw, she will love it, I know she will. And her brother will be WAAAY To engrossed in opening his own gifts to notice. Nor will he have a clue what it’s for. She wouldn’t care about her dad seeing it.

Good thinking. You need to build your strength up for all the shopping. 🤣

Well bugger me OP not buying gifts for her family would solve the economic crisis?!
How dare she likely save up for these gifts and then treat her family.

Her way is the ONLY right way. Obvs.

All mine are wrapped too I've posted any that need posting and we're on the run down to Christmas.
My dd is so small still so I've literally brought her a dolls house and equipment for it. Having said all of this I'll probably see a little wrap me up or something closer to the time but she isn't getting much this year.

CortieTat · 20/10/2024 17:32

WhatsInTheRug · 20/10/2024 17:21

@CortieTat but that's YOU and YOUR choice for your family

This is the op CHOICE

Everyone is different

OP has asked if she was being reasonable. I happened to read the question, answered it and explained why I thought she was BU.

WiserOlderElf · 20/10/2024 17:32

Oh OP I bet you wish you hadn’t bothered posting now!
I’ve spent a grand total of Ā£0 across my 3 kids, but I’m envious of your organisation! It looks like a lot for the money spent so you must have found some bargains!
I have an 11 year old and am struggling for ideas this year, it feels very much like an ā€˜in between’ phase. A lot of her friends are into make up and skincare but she couldn’t be less bothered.

StarSlinger · 20/10/2024 17:32

Never admit to giving your kids more than a lump of coal and a satsuma for Christmas on MN,

TroysMammy · 20/10/2024 17:33

Wow panda stuff I don't have but I now need a panda hair towel.

PrincessScarlett · 20/10/2024 17:34

Don't understand why your DD would love a sanitary product when she doesn't need it yet. Seems a bit odd for pre period 11 year old to want that. But appreciate different horses for courses and all that. I'm impressed you're so organised for Christmas.

I’ve bought 2 different people some tickets for shows next year but that’s all. I wouldn’t give a clothes rail for Christmas, but I’m still scarred from the year when there was a huge box with my name on it and it was a shoe rack, gutted.

She is obsessed with it to be fair…two of her friends have them. It’s a weekly conversation. Of course I didn’t have that as an 11-year-old because I got mine when I was 10.
