No need to sample all the Mince Pies - Sainsbury Bakery Shortcrust <bangs gavel>

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/10/2024 23:37

I bought 2 Terrys Chocolate Orange Popping Candy but I'm sure my son will see these and liberate one .
Last year I bought the mint one , wouldn't buy again

Tinyscotch · 19/10/2024 00:30

Does eating the Christmas snack cupboard start now too?

Very tempted to buy (and eat) some mince pies this week. In the name of sampling ahead of December of course.

Absolutely not ! I hide mine and guard it like a Rottweiler. I am the only one that knows I've bought the stuff anyway

Bigredcombine · 19/10/2024 06:48

I didn't realise people did this. Anyone else find this thread utterly bizarre?

Prescottdanni123 · 19/10/2024 07:08

@Bigredcombine

Stocking up on snacks for Christmas? No, I've always done it. It spreads the cost out if you gradually stock up over a few months and sometimes, if you wait until the middle of December, shops have sold out of the best stuff.

Fucking does for me 😩 we did have those amazing mini stollen bites from Lidl and some iced mince pies… but alas, I’m pregnant and have the most savage sweet tooth and I seem intent on munching through every sweet treat I can find 😂

I've always bought stuff in December and never had a stock issue. But I get your point about spreading the cost. I guess I just wouldn't trust myself (or more specifically my DH) not to eat it all before then.
That's probably what the retailers want us to do - stock up early. Accidentally eat it all, then buy it again in December. £££

BlastedPimples · 19/10/2024 07:35

What are Christmas flavour crisps?

Tana433 · 19/10/2024 07:42

Just pringles so far (5 tubes) as they were on offer in Tesco! I have a list though and will buy a couple of things every time i go to spread the cost.

rzb · 19/10/2024 07:43

I'll probably get some stollen, lebkuchen and salted crisps. We'll make some sweet treats, probably Florentines. The kids will make a huge batch of dates, filled with crunchy peanut butter and covered in chocolate.

We like savoury snacks, so I'll make a massive jar of nut / dried fruit / chocolate chip mix to refill snack bowls, we'll get a big pack of charcuterie, some pongy cheeses, open a couple of homemade chutneys, add some pickles, crudités and fruit and enjoy on a frequent basis. Turkey sandwiches will be available more or less on tap after Xmas day. Ham will become available for snacking after Boxing Day. Homemade breads, with butter from the local dairy, throughout.

What are Christmas flavour crisps?

Crisps with a Christmas theme e.g. pigs in blankets. Not an actual single bag.

Also if you leave it too late much of the good stuff has gone, as I learnt to my disappointment last year.

and maybe don't bother the Christmas board if you don't want to talk about Christmas. I have no interest in dogs hence I don't go onto the dogs board and moan about dogs.

2 packs of M&S Very Merry Munch tin refills. Turkish Delight. Baileys. Chocolate coins and chocolate Santa for DS stocking. 2 Toblerones (1 almond and 1 caramac flavour). A few pouches of Mr Filbert's nuts and olives. A good, solid marzipan bar coated in dark chocolate. M&S chocolate tree decorations. M&S chocolate biscuits.

My new Christmas wish is that Santa sends the Caramac flavour Toblerone to the country I live in. Pretty please😩

Redkatagain · 19/10/2024 16:57

Not really snack cupboard but I was excited to buy fresh party food in M&S this morning

Clouday · 19/10/2024 17:24

We did a M&S trip the other week and stocked up on a fair bit - got a munch tin and a jelly one, as well as some of the salted caramel pinecones. Much prefer savoury to sweet in this household, so we’ve got a couple of jars of the M&S festive chutney and piccalilli which were both big cheeseboard hits in previous years. Started stashing various jars of pickled onions and cornichons. Also have the usual tins of mini cheddars/twiglets/cheeselets, nuts and some cinnamon and chocolate tortillas. Our current crisp selection includes hot honey pigs in blankets (M&S), camembert and garlic (Asda) and beef and red wine gravy (Asda).

My favourite time of year 😃Now to resist the urge until at least mid November!

WitchyBits · 19/10/2024 17:45

@OctaveoOctober

Yes, the dark and milk chocolate ones are out at both Lidls I visit. Delighted as I bloody love them and it's one of the few things that my nephew will eat that's not beige nuggets, alphabites, smart price pizza or chicken noodles. So I always look for them from mid September and stock up when I see them.

But Aldi mince pies topped with flaked almonds are also delicious
