Have been experimenting with cheesecake recipes for Christmas and we have eaten a few so far. Chocolate hazelnut. Coffee. peanut butter and honey, orange syrup infused For the snack cupboard there are florentines and m and s salted caramel pine cones so far.

Tinyscotch · 19/10/2024 18:14

Well I've gone ahead and added two boxes of M&S mince pies to my Ocado order arriving tomorrow. Sadly they will not see the Christmas period.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 19/10/2024 18:28

Cheesy Footbals, we've had them for a few years now but the 'use by' date has rubbed off.
No-one seems to like them but I'll be putting them out again anyway.
Were they always green?

itsgettingweird · 19/10/2024 18:35

Nothing.

It would be gone by Halloween

I have zero willpower 😂

Don’t be silly. It’s far far too early to think about Christmas snack cupboards. What is wrong with you all. Don’t you know it’s only October.

Who on earth has a Christmas snack cupboard going at this time of the year?

It’s utter madness. It will all of been scoffed by Halloween 🎃 or bonfire night at the very latest.

I spread the cost. Also it's something to cross off the list. I don't eat stuff.

I clear a shelf in the pantry , at the moment my panettonne and the Terrys Chocolate Oranges are on there .
As I get nearer to Christmas , I;ll add things ...this is why Sainsbury Nectar Points was invented Xmas Grin

Is it like the episode of "Brittas Empire" when his wife takes a tray of sandwiches out of the freezer . She's asked if it;s safe but says "Oh yes , no-one eats them "
Every new job he gets , the sandwiches are taken out , served up , put back in the freezer .

aintnospringchicken · 20/10/2024 00:08

Nothing.
It's still October and plenty of time to stock up.
Also, DH would have any chocolate eaten long before Christmas

Ours won't be eaten either. But if it is, we don't care - we'll just re-stock next time we're out!

We'll continue adding to it every time we shop in coming weeks, if we see anything we fancy or when favourites are on sale. It's a great way of avoiding having to do a big shop closer to the time (when it's so busy/loud/crowded and everyone's stressed). We've already got our ducks for Christmas dinner in the freezer - neatly in a MN row 😉 - so that's one less thing to worry about; anything else meat-wise will be ordered from the farm shop, and then all we need to do is do a quick mop-up of perishables in the couple of days before Christmas. We do this every year and it means we can relax throughout December. More time for hygge! 🎄🎄🎄

I didn't realise people did this. Anyone else find this thread utterly bizarre?

What's utterly bizarre about it ? I don't really stock up in advance as it would get eaten but nothing strange about it at all? Weird thing to say, it's a nice thread I'm enjoying reading it

A. The amount of people posting on this thread show that people do indeed stock up in advance. That's why the shops are full of Christmas stuff.
b. Some of us like spreading the cost
c. Unlike apparently you, some of us can exercise self restraint and all the items bought for Christmas will still be there on Christmas Eve
d. I know it's October, thanks very much for the reminder
e. If you don't want to talk about early Christmas prep, don't come on the Christmas board 🤦🏼‍♀️. I don't go on the dogs board to moan about how I have no interest in dogs, why are they all wasting their time ? The clue is in the name.

I'll probably get some stollen, lebkuchen and salted crisps. We'll make some sweet treats, probably Florentines. The kids will make a huge batch of dates, filled with crunchy peanut butter and covered in chocolate.

We like savoury snacks, so I'll make a massive jar of nut / dried fruit / chocolate chip mix to refill snack bowls, we'll get a big pack of charcuterie, some pongy cheeses, open a couple of homemade chutneys, add some pickles, crudités and fruit and enjoy on a frequent basis. Turkey sandwiches will be available more or less on tap after Xmas day. Ham will become available for snacking after Boxing Day. Homemade breads, with butter from the local dairy, throughout.

Ooh do tell us how you make/what goes in your nut/fruit mix it sounds delicious 😋

OnlyHereForTheChristmasBoard · 20/10/2024 18:05

@Iloveautumnwinterchristmas - the full correct title is Golden Caramel with Honey and Almond Nougat, so I am hoping it will taste like Caramac! Hope you can find some where you are.

Today I got some dark chocolate orangettes from Waitrose, and also Montezuma Black Forest chocolate and Montezuma 100% dark, the latter for DS stocking. Forgot to mention already have salted marcona almonds from M&S.

I've always bought stuff in December and never had a stock issue. But I get your point about spreading the cost. I guess I just wouldn't trust myself (or more specifically my DH) not to eat it all before then.
That's probably what the retailers want us to do - stock up early. Accidentally eat it all, then buy it again in December. £££

You sound fun and extremely festive.

I haven't tried them, they are massive and IIRC there's a lot of them in the pack .

Do they have them in the Cafe ? I could have coffee and a mince pie before I go in then see if I like them ....

Can't say I've seen them in the cafe. I'm going next weekend so will have a look.
You get 9 in a pack

rzb · 20/10/2024 20:10

@Insidenumber09 It's just a few packs of ready to eat (shelled, unsalted) nuts, (usually including hazelnuts, almond, peanut, cashew, walnuts) sultanas, raisins, cranberries, cherries, sometimes some apricots, and some decent chocolate chips, (and pumpkin seeds if I've got them) in whatever proportions seem reasonable. It sits happily in a massive glass kilner jar with a scoop in, ready to refill the snack bowls when empty.

Marmite27 · 20/10/2024 22:37

The stuff left from last year Shock

*Bucket of pretzels and crackers
*Mint & Coffee matchmakers
*aldi apple and cinnamon biscuits (so hoping they bring these back this year!)
*bag of segsations
*bag of crunchie bites
*bag of heros
Pack of Mr Kipling Christmas cake slices

there will be mince pies and crisps added to that. We always buy loads then get fed up. I need to be much more selective.

Those Aldi biscuits though - we bought 6 bags, and still have one left. Will be buying 6 more if they do bring them back Grin

ffsgloria · 24/10/2024 14:56

So far a couple of chocolate oranges and some Treelets. Will be adding honey roast cashews, Asti, Raffaello.

lingmerth · 29/10/2024 23:14

Only started mine today. After eights, Elizabeth Shaw mints, mint matchmakers. Bit of a theme emerging!

IllBeHomeForChristmas · 30/10/2024 19:19

Started a few weeks ago and have:

M&S salted caramel pinecones
M&S shortbread tin
M&S gingerbread men
Pringles
Viennese chocolate fingers
Cheez-it’s
Salted caramel pretzels
Various bags of crisps
Diet coke cans
Fanta cans
Shloer in various flavours
Cranberry sauce (don’t like homemade)
Tub celebrations
Tub miniature heroes

We are hosting Christmas for the first time so want to have plenty in for our guests and also ourselves. Will add to this with weekly shops as and when I see things on offer.

HildaHosmede · 30/10/2024 20:06

So far just two big tubs of Quality Street. £3.89 at Lidl with the Lidl Plus app which is the best price I've seen.
