Thanks @Felith for the title!

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Just a reminder to not forget about amazon warehouse. I've had allsorts in the past! Today I've had a pair of £20 wellies delivered for just £8 due to 'damaged packaging'. Absolutely nothing wrong with the actual wellies themselves and they were delivered in a clear plastic bag and paper outer bag that all gets recycled anyway.

Really really really sorry to derail the thread guys, but all the talk regarding Japanese snacks etc has awoken something in me and now I'm wanting something I've never even tried, (sweet tooth + pregnancy cravings aren't the best mix😭). Do any of you who've tried Asian candies etc have any particular recommendations? Apologies again! 🫣

I want to buy my 5yo DD some nice toiletries, hand cream, lip balm etc. Any suggestions that are nicely packaged etc?

No specific recommendations sorry, but the likes of B&M/home bargains and boots have some bits aimed at young girls. Would some of those in a nice little makeup/toiletry bag work? Home bargain has a very cute Disney princess one in at the moment if she likes that?

Lightseverywhere · 12/10/2024 16:23

@isissantahereyet great idea, thank you!

The millions of Japanese Kit Kat flavours. Some are very weird, but fun!

Oreo’s in every flavour/colour you can imagine, sold in an Asian shop in our local market. You just have to get over the fact the staff talk to each other in their mother tongue till you’ve paid then smile and say “have a good day” as they hand you your bag.

I went real life shopping today to an outlet village, I was really impressed with the Paul Costelloe bags and purses, and would make lovely gifts. Just checked to see if there is a clearance section online too and there is https://www.paulcostelloebags.com/clearance/

There is also an outlet section on the website.

@ShinyPrettyThings87 are the thin optics specs noticeably better than the 4+ magnifying ones you can get in b&m type places please?

evtheria · 12/10/2024 17:14

@issantahereyet
• Pokky sticks (like long biscuit sticks covered in various chocolates or frostings)
• Filled mochi (either the packaged bags of mini ones, or trays of fresher ones) - good for that satisfying but not overly sweet hit
• Hi-chew sweets, especially grape ones
• Tinned tropical fruit, like lychee. Eat (incl syrup) out of a tall glass topped up with fizzy water and ice cubes.

I'd say white rabbit sweets but they're not soft-chewy anymore, which ruins the experience.

Re Paul Costelloe they also have some in tkmaxx so worth checking there. Eg Lucinda is £59.99 on tkmaxx and £195 direct.

Anyone wanting lookfantastoc try 40PLUS it sometimes gives up to 21% discount. Doesn't work on all items but I try it whenever I'm buying just in case

Juniperberries200 · 12/10/2024 17:28

Would anyone have a discount code for Sea salt please?

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 12/10/2024 17:31

@Scout2016 I asked DH about it and he said he's tried the ones in the shops a few months back but these are far better. The thin optics don't have arms on them, they just have a flexible middle that grips your nose (comfortably.) With these, he can't read something 2metres away but can easily read something at arms length, but i think theses ones are classed as reading lenses. We've looked at his prescription and from what we can work out, the 2.5 black glasses we've got are slightly stronger than his prescription says but he can see perfectly with them. Not sure if that's much help but on the site, there is a bit where they give you a simple test to see which may be best for you.

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 12/10/2024 17:48

@issantahereyet I picked these up in TKMaxx today, peach flavoured marshmallows with some juicy goo inside 😋 £2, individually wrapped (mentioning because I will need to stash some to save me accidentally eating the full bag 🙈) and do recommend for a sweet hit!

hby9628 · 12/10/2024 18:25

@User125179313 yes they seemed to be good value. To be honest I stocked up because we use the solace earrings day to day especially for my youngest as she has tiny ears so the kids studs are a perfect size for her. She lost some recently so it cost me £15 for just one pair to replace them.
My eldest struggled with reactions to certain earrings but she's never had probs with the solace ones so for me it was worth grabbing some whilst on sale

hby9628 · 12/10/2024 18:27

My mum has asked for a navy hoodie but I can't find anything nice. They are all real plain & dull. Has anybody got any inspiration? I've tried fat face sea salt, saltrock, joules, M&S. I'm a bit stuck.

hby9628 · 12/10/2024 18:30

In person shopping today & my tween stumbled across this. The glow balm is usually £18 on its own so for an extra £4 it comes in a gorgeous gift pack & with a lip sleep mask. It's a really nice gift. She treated herself to one & is very pleased with it although that's now one less Xmas gift idea I have for her although I might grab one for my sister in law

Would anyone have an Argos voucher please? Unexpected £100 spend, so anything off much appreciated!

IlovePond · 12/10/2024 18:40

@hby9628 - have you tried White Stuff or Next?

hby9628 · 12/10/2024 18:42

@IlovePond white stuff is a great shout. I've not tried next only because when I last looked on their site I just found it dull but it's worth a try
