Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Love the smart game recommendation. Never seen these before and now plan on buying a different one for each child on my list for christmas, including my own.

So many different games and difficulties dependent on age. They look really fun and think the kids will love them.

Going in the amazon basket so I can track the price and buy when they're on offer.

Also bought the face serum recommended for myself today on offer atm.

This thread is my cup of mulled wine!

Adam Frost gardening book has consistently been £2 at Argos for a while for anyone who still wants it and doesn’t want to wait for the Amazon delivery dates

Blessedbethefruitz · 23/09/2024 17:15

If anyone needs a little run around for home - my son's from a few years ago has just died, this one is on offer. Alas I need a coordinating pair for my 2yo 😅

Hello!

Thanks for all the tips so far.
I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for bargainous kinetic sand?

And also make your own Christmas cracker kits that are pretty / good size!

Lastly (sorry!) I'm looking for bargain bedding sets please!

Thank you all in advance wonderful bargain hunters!

Buy some normal cheap Christmas crackers with the colour/pattern you like
At the end of each one, carefully cut the tie off
Cracker will open up and you can tip the contents out, the “cracker” part will stay as the other end is still tied
We then put the hats and jokes back in with our own gifts
Tie the end back up - we use ribbon to make it look a bit more luxurious
Then replace the tie the other end so both ends match
Much cheaper than the packs of make your own crackers and far more choice
Last year we used a pack we bought for a couple of pounds as we liked the colour - everyone thought we had spent a fortune on them!

I’ve just received my Boots points card coupons in the post today. Just in case anyone’s waiting on them before purchasing - they are on the way!!

My dd is going travelling next year. Does anyone have any “essential” ideas that we can get her or have seen bargainous pack packs or packing cubes?

Depending on where she's travelling to I really rate geopress bottles. Not cheap and heavier than average but means you don't need to worry about clean water. You just pour water in, press it down, and it's ready to drink.

I put 2 copies in my Amazon basket at £2 last night but they had gone up to £8.81 today. I managed to get them at Argos for £2 but they are listed as clearance and out of stock online (and at my local store). If anyone still wants one, move fast!

If anyone doesn’t already use the Amazon app, I got a £15 off a £30+ spend voucher for my first purchase using the app. I used it for the £90 RPP Beast Lab that is 60% off so I am feeling rather smug at getting it for £19 with the voucher. Thank you whoever posted that link!

I think I'm being daft, I can not find the original post for love nor money! Would you be able to tell me about the smart games?

@ChristmasMad1 educational games for a 4 year old (and upwards) I'd recommend "Smart Games" that I tend to get on Amazon and they sometimes have decent deals on.

The product specs usually have the dimensions on but you may be able to buy it from Amazon in the recipient country to save yourself having to package up.

My two have a bear in the woods game and a penguin game from Smart Games, and I just bought my Goddaughter a wooden Prince and Princess game for ages 4+

They basically have a booklet with a series of "challenges" in that start off easy and get more challenging- they are good fun!

@Ewock this was the original post

Has anyone had a dispatch email from Whistlefish yet? Just wondering if they're going to honour the (maybe too good to be true) discount code. I ordered Saturday and no dispatch yet.

Ewock · 23/09/2024 18:09

The smart games look fab, there's some I'd like for myself!

Ewock · 23/09/2024 18:18

I'm asking lots of questions today! But I remember seeing a wooden advent style holder for lindt/Ferrero chocs. It was different styles but I remember one was an xmas tree. I just can not remember where I saw it, does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

They probably weren't working over the weekend and came into the office Monday morning to find they were swamped with orders from mumsnetters! 😂

@virgocatlover I'm a regular Whistlefish buyer, didn't buy last weekend, but usually its 3 or 4 days before they are despatched, so don't panic yet

Quick question from me-my DS1 has started to take a really keen interest in Harry Potter and I'd love to encourage it. I think he'd love the smiggle Harry Potter advent calendar- is it likely to sell out? I bought a standard smiggle for DD last year when they went down to around £20 but don't want to hold out a d miss it for the sake of a saving as I know DS would love it 😬

I did this last year and used the bargainous Whitestuff socks as cracker prizes (large crackers). They were a huge hit.

In Home Bargains earlier, I noticed mini Carex sets (of three), boxed Paw Paw balm singles and sets of 2, Dove lip balm sets, 99p - £4.49. Nice little stocking fillers or inexpensive but useful teacher gifts.

MilkyBadBoy · 23/09/2024 19:27

An update on the Elizabeth Arden free gift from a couple of threads back… my £19.99 order arrived two weeks ago without the gift, which on the website was still showing as pending dispatch.

Queried with them today and they said my gift had been cancelled because my order was deemed not eligible anymore! Bit cheeky since they didn’t even contact me to tell me and took my money. Plus it clearly was eligible per their offer. So I’m holding firm and challenging them. No way I would have ordered were it not for the free gift! Very naughty of them…

Has anyone had anything similar?

OnionBag · 23/09/2024 19:32
