Light-hearted - obviously. But getting to that tetchy stage where you realise you're missing something you really like.

No fresh sage - partner forget to get during the Big Shop yesterday.

Yes, its flavoured with sage, onion with cranberries. Was the highlight of last year. Leftover turkey sandwiches were the favourite meal of the whole of christmas.

Is it special Christmas sourdough? As in nuts and cranberries in it? Because if so, I need this too 😂

Yes it is.

yes its flavoured sage, onion and cranberry. Was a game changer for turkey sandwiches last year with a stuffing ball and pig in blanket crammed into the sandwich too. Lush!

@DoAWheelie - really hope you get the oxygen sorted. Fingers crossed. I’m allergic to cats and some dogs too and know just how miserable that is. Does your stepdad have antihistamines? He should start taking them now before he comes over and the symptoms start. I’m finding Allevia good at the moment - Fexofenadine. And Beconase nasal spray as well. Apologies if teaching you and he to suck eggs but it’s made a big difference to me.

Got a Tesco delivery coming tonight… they’ve removed the red cabbage, biscuits for cheese, goose fat roasties and almond croissants because they are “unavailable “ since I placed the order over a month ago 😡
gonna have to go to the shop again!

People complaining about missing or subbed items is one of my biggest pet peeves.
Your order is picked on the day of delivery so if something is out of stock then it’s out of stock. It has nothing to do with WHEN you placed your order.

I really wanted some very merry munchy mix from m and s but mine has sold out

My DD has been to 3 stores looking for that bloody stuff! A couple of days ago there was a whole shelf of tins and refills, but no.

My salted caramel pine cones didn’t arrive with Ocado. I’m glad we aren’t missing anything vital as I popped into the simply food after a carol service last night and a plague of locusts had clearly devastated the place!

Jules912 · 24/12/2023 14:56

Realised we also forgot the sellotape which would've been a disaster as the roll I thought we had has gone missing ( I suspect DD used for one of her many art projects) but DH braved the local town centre and also managed to get the last Christmas cake in Sainsbury's.

Ok.. thanks for that

Both supermarkets here have run out of potatoes! Luckily one of our crowd already had some but no roast potatoes with Christmas turkey would have been disasterous!

Tesco deliveries have been dreadful with substitutions and failure to deliver. On top of that, they packed the heavy stuff on top of the fragile items so biscuits smashed and fruit squashed, etc. Not good at all, I was cross enough to call and demand a refund on quite a few items.

TrickyD · 24/12/2023 16:49

Nearly a bit of a ruination because DH’s £90 fancy beer ordered on 3 Dec failed to turn up despite a couple of phone calls ‘we’ve had some problems in your area’ . It arrived yesterday, nice delivery man told us the ‘problem’ was two of their vans being held up, one with a gun pointed at the driver’s throat and stolen.
What I found amazing was that there was no mention of this incident on any of the local FB pages, smallish midland market town, not urban hellhole.

Well WHEN should have something to do with it. If you've got 100 orders of potatoes on top of your usual Christmas footfall, you'd make sure you had stock, right? Well, any other business would.

My missing item is plain flour for the Yorkshire puddings. I didn't realise we'd run out. Thankfully I have 00 flour for pasta which will do. DH would have been disappointed, we have toad in the hole planned for Boxing Day with the leftover batter.

Missing the point of the thread entirely but sage is incredibly easy to grow, is great ground cover in a border and is evergreen. Would highly recommend buying and planting one

Oxygen.

The private company the Tories commissioned to take over oxygen delivery for the NHS have decided they are going to close over the holiday period leaving my partner without any way to actually breathe the next few days.

Instead of wrapping presents and relaxing I now have to spend this weekend on the phone to various emergency lines trying to find a workable solution to keep my partner alive so a private company can save some cash not paying overtime for bank holidays.

I really hope you get sorted. My best friend is in oxygen, so I understand 🤗

SwedishEdith · 24/12/2023 22:39

Good luck @DoAWheelie although it shouldn't ever come to needing luck.

And @Mojodojocasahaus - got the sage today but yes, definitely, going to plant some next year.

I haven’t got crackers for the table! Went to M&S but they were £15 for 6 - no way was I paying that price! Oh well no silly hat or joke! 🙄

Poppins17 · 24/12/2023 22:48

I’d have liked to have found some more white chocolate toffife, as I underestimated how much I’d love the one and only box I bought, but alas haven’t been able to find any.

Completely a first world problem, I have food in my fridge and will be spending the day with my family tomorrow so I’m very lucky.

Deathraystare · 25/12/2023 11:42

I wish I had remembered the pickled walnuts. However there is no room for them a ywayjust this morning, spreading ordinary marmalade o n toast, I suddenly remembered how dad used to get whisky marmalade andI loved it. Perhaps next year....

I do not actually do Christmas lunch as I am normally working, share a kitchen and fridge and generly not bothered. I have nuked lasag e for lunch.

AppleChristsBirthdayMacchiato · 25/12/2023 11:52

Not forgot, but substantially underestimated how much mulled wine one person can drink, and am now facing the day tragically mull-less.
