Light-hearted - obviously. But getting to that tetchy stage where you realise you're missing something you really like.

No fresh sage - partner forget to get during the Big Shop yesterday.

Waitrose was sold out of blinis, but thank goodness Tesco had some! We were researching homemade ones .

The Waitrose temp staff member looked very stressed when relaying that they'd run out, suspect she was getting some heat from other shoppers.

There's a shortage of fondant icing and marzipan in our local big town. Been trying to get some for weeks. Finally found some this morning in our little town's small Tesco! Phew! Just in time to decorate the Christmas cake.

I was going to roast a chicken instead of turkey, I popped into the supermarket today, all the chickens they had expire tomorrow which is no good. I'll try again tomorrow & if no joy I guess I'll just get a couple of breasts & some thighs or legs or something. It's not the end of the world though so long as we get something to eat!

That’s bonkers - just buy the chicken! They don’t magically and automatically turn rancid at the stroke of the midnight of the date that’s printed on them! It will be absolutely fine.

Brandy butter! Where is all the brandy butter??

theraininspainfallsmainlyontheplane · 23/12/2023 20:25

Couldn't get blinis for my smoked salmon!

An absence of blinis deserves the string section of the Berlin Philharmonic.

Lintz chocolate reindeer - took my mum to do her shopping this afternoon and she was surprised not to see any, normally buys about 6. It’s been a taxing few weeks one way or another with family illnesses, and I just can’t face going out tomorrow trying to find some. The kids, youngest is 16!, will have to hide their disappointment 🙄

OccasionalHope · 23/12/2023 21:36

We just found some hiding in Waitrose. There definitely seems less than there used to be.

OccasionalHope · 23/12/2023 21:36

Brandy butter that is.

They did look easier to make than I expected, so might be worth trying homemade

OuiOuiMonAmiJeMappelleLafayette · 23/12/2023 22:42

Hollandaise sauce!!

Could make my own I suppose. 😫

FusionChefGeoff · 23/12/2023 22:53

@aubergineman I used this (they're in the freezer) and it was very easy and no faffing about with yeast good luck

My greengrocer order (which DH picked up and just put straight into the garage so I didn't check) should have had 3 cucumbers for my appetiser smoked salmon pate things.

They were 3 pickle size miniature cucumbers!!!

Going to have to try to find some tomorrow

troppibambini6 · 23/12/2023 22:59

I've not been able to get the Jusrol bake in the oven cinnamon rolls.
Right pain as they are vegan friendly and bil is vegan and will be here for Xmas day breakfast and dinner.
I'm going to have a go at making my own using ready done puff pastry.

lucie82 · 23/12/2023 22:59

I ordered Buck's Fizz for my online delivery, they sent fresh orange instead pfft!

I really wanted some very merry munchy mix from m and s but mine has sold out

Sorry, I've eaten a full tin and 2 refill bags since they released them Blush
Made my dad go and find me one, he said "HOW much?!" And then bought himself a tin

The food gods have been particularly kind to me this year, except for the fresh sage that I definitely did buy in Waitrose yesterday but couldn’t find when I came to make the stuffing today.

CICTGIGF · 23/12/2023 23:16

Baking paper for baking our gingerbread cookies on tomorrow.

Allthroughthenight23 · 23/12/2023 23:23

@DoAWheelie really hope you get sorted.

We got them eventually, but had real trouble sourcing Tunnocks teacakes this year. Normally see them everywhere but not this year.

coffeetofunction · 23/12/2023 23:39

Parsnips

Anoisagusaris · 23/12/2023 23:54

Fresh custard. Had to buy a carton of Birds instead.

DS ate half a packet of blinis yesterday, have 1.5 packets left and they’ll just have to do. Will make some brown bread to also go with the smoked salmon.

Definitely extinct round here sadly!

We've run out of bastard teabags! That's a proper disaster. We usually bulk buy and I hadn't realised the stash was gone.

Am intrigued by all the posters who couldn't get bucks fizz. I always thought it was just fresh OJ in some sort of fizzy wine (Champers if you've got it, but Brut or Prosecco fine). What's different about buying a bottle of it that you can't recreate by glugging some juice into something fizzy?
