Light-hearted - obviously. But getting to that tetchy stage where you realise you're missing something you really like.

No fresh sage - partner forget to get during the Big Shop yesterday.

Oh bollocks....tin foil. Now I'm hoping I have enough normal sized tinfoil to double it up. I refuse to go to the co-op.

Tin foil.

Oh drat.

Mini roulades. We cant get through a whole one and I LOVE them. I only like either lemon or raspberry and this year the only places doing minis are Marks and Lidl, neither have any of the raspberry but have god awful toffee or something like that

Oxygen.

The private company the Tories commissioned to take over oxygen delivery for the NHS have decided they are going to close over the holiday period leaving my partner without any way to actually breathe the next few days.

Instead of wrapping presents and relaxing I now have to spend this weekend on the phone to various emergency lines trying to find a workable solution to keep my partner alive so a private company can save some cash not paying overtime for bank holidays.

That is truly awful, I hope everything works out for your poor partner.

I can’t get fresh dill and will have to use dried. Even though I was only going to sprinkle a tiny amount on top of my canapés, I feel like I’ve ruined everything.

Only small chickens left in Sainsbury’s yesterday so I had to walk to Waitrose who had plenty of all sizes. A small wouldn’t have fed six no matter how hard I tired.

Should have got a mumsnet small chicken - then you could have fed the whole street 😁

Peridot1 · 23/12/2023 16:22

@DoAWheelie - that’s horrendous. Have you tried your local MP on social media? Or a local councillor? Some times they can help.

Is there any way any of us could possibly help?

I know what these private contractors are like. Sometimes you end up buying the damn stuff at £££ because they can't get their shit together.

WhatYouWearing · 23/12/2023 16:24

My online food shop has just arrived. All three loaves of bread missing, no substitute and no-one told me they ate the 'emergency' loaf in the freezer.

Not moving the car again now else we will never get parked so probably baking bread as well tomorrow 😅

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 23/12/2023 16:35

Chestnut purée
Do I win the prize for most MN answer ever?

I'm afraid not: we failed to source micro-herbs to garnish one of the courses in dh's 10 course Christmas Eve tasting menu. I'm not even joking. Blush I managed to find some pea shoots though. Apparently they will do, so Christmas probably isn't ruined after all Grin

EnjoyingTheSilence · 23/12/2023 16:44

Burrata. Nowhere seemed to have it, even though one shop had a sign saying they did but couldn’t be arsed to take it down. Managed to find some at the local deli up the road.

Also marshmallows for hot chocolate and chocolate fondue. And local shop up the road had them. Why on earth I travelled to these other bloody places that last couple of day I don’t know!

@DoAWheelie I’d like to say that’s shocking but unfortunately it really isn’t. I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with this. Are you happy to say where abouts you are in the country (generally) as someone on here may be able to help you or put you in touch with someone

OMG! So he may end up in A&E?

The co-op have stopped doing my favourite profiteroles so Christmas is forever doomed from this point forward. Last year we drove around 50 miles trying to find some from different shops, hoping that our local was just sold out. After driving 25 miles to one, I had to accept that they seemed to have stopped selling them. On the plus side, I came out with two tubs of the same garlic dip we'd had earlier in the year in Italy, so it was a very small victory. This year we made the same journey. Still no profiteroles and no dip either so I'm blind with rage 😂
I've had those profiteroles as my xmas day dessert for about 20 years. I don't like xmas pudding etc so my mum would always buy me them so I had something. I'm actually genuinely gutted 😭

But then I read what @DoAWheelie is having to do this weekend and I think I need to get a grip. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this x

My box of luxury chocolate Christmas biscuits was replaced in my online shop with Maryland cookies 😭

There is an annoying shortage of Dijon mustard in my hometown. I am grumpy.

There’s a general shortage of Dijon mustard. I live a few km from the French border and you can’t even get it there.

ActDottie · 23/12/2023 17:02

Porcini mushrooms for the nut roast! :(

I couldn’t find any fresh sage in the supermarket but did manage to find a mixed bag of fresh thyme, sage and rosemary! Conveniently the three herbs I needed :)

DeathStarCanteenGal · 23/12/2023 17:03

well there won't be a cheesecake here if I can't get digestives. tesco had none last night...
but need to hit the supermarket tonight, to try and get a couple of other bits and pick up the turkey so hopefully will be ok

adriftinadenofvipers · 23/12/2023 17:04

My bowel meds. Christmas on the shitter!!😡

gibegobble · 23/12/2023 17:05

Red cabbage 😩 can't find it anywhere 🤣 past caring now

AnotherVice · 23/12/2023 17:05

@DoAWheelie A long shot but if you want to say where you are I could possibly help?

Lucyintheskywithadiamond · 23/12/2023 17:06

This has reminded me that we don’t have any fresh orange juice for Christmas morning!!

FreshWinterMorning · 23/12/2023 17:07

Nothing.

You can use ginger nuts or shortbread at a push!

Hatty65 · 23/12/2023 17:16

@DoAWheelie I'm so sorry. I hope you find a solution quickly.

How terrible for you both.

Taytocrisps · 23/12/2023 17:17

I need to get asparagus, for my acclaimed asparagus, brie and breadcrumbs dish.

DD wants some 7up cans but they seem to be sold out. Maybe tomorrow.

I couldn't find any trifle and was getting a bit despondent. But then I realized I had missed a fridge section (unfamiliar supermarket). I fell on it with glee and stopped myself from buying three of them.

Jules912 · 23/12/2023 17:19

The Christmas cake! Couldn't be bothered to make one as only two of us eat it, and after huffing that Ocado had failed to deliver it with everything else this morning checked the receipt and realised we never actually ordered it! We're normally too full to want it until at least Boxing Day so may leave it and hope they're selling some off cheap after.
