Light-hearted - obviously. But getting to that tetchy stage where you realise you're missing something you really like.

No fresh sage - partner forget to get during the Big Shop yesterday.

thanks @sprigatito I've a big tin of Ikea ginger biscuits, so at a push they might get called into service
or maybe some biscoff biscuits would work? just going to me a new york cheesecake

Beansandcheesearegood · 23/12/2023 17:22

Gluten free and oat free crackers. We will now have 3 guests sitting watching the rest if us eat cheese and crackers whilst they have cheese with cheese! I'll try again tomorrow!

Croissantsandpistachio · 23/12/2023 17:22

Tunis Cake. It's difficult to find and it got subbed.

I'm not sure anyone even likes it that much but it's sort of a running family joke now.

LBOCS2 · 23/12/2023 17:38

Forgot the asparagus for the asparagus wrapped in Parma ham. I just have a lot of Parma ham instead. Also the mushroom and truffle pate, but that's a would-like. And the dill to garnish the smoked salmon blini.

HamstersAreMyLife · 23/12/2023 17:44

Puff pastry. Its only for brekkie so it's fine and tbh I only go to the store I can walk to as the traffic was awful today so I could probably have gone elsewhere. There were 2 empty multipacks so presumably everyone is planning on doing the same for breakfast!

A pack of UNO cards.😭My eldest asked for barely anything this year and he suddenly did just as I have left for my last shop.

Amazon may have some, I ordered a couple of silly bits for DH yesterday and they arrived today how I do have prime, if not Argos?

OccasionalHope · 23/12/2023 17:46

Preferred brand of ice cream. Will go in again tomorrow but not too hopeful.

TheGirlWhoLived · 23/12/2023 17:46

I really wanted some very merry munchy mix from m and s but mine has sold out

FuckinghellthatsUnbelievable · 23/12/2023 17:51

I failed to buy booze as I went to the shop early and they don’t sell it till ten! I don’t drink a lot but was just planning on prosecco at breakfast and a nice tawny port with cheese to finish.

Im not sure I want it enough to pay Co op prices which is the shop I’m close to tomorrow.

I'm not, sadly, but maybe we need to just keep an eye on people's gardens. Have snaffled sprigs of rosemary in the past that way

I would have fresh Rosemary for our leg of lamb - except for the sneaky fucker who came into the front garden and hacked away at the Rosemary bush so much that it died in the summer. They'd been doing it for the last three years and it was getting threadbare because they were chopping into the hard wood each time, but the last one, they took every remaining bit of new growth.

I wasn't impressed, tbh.

Oh no. We do now have our own rosemary bush. Just wish we had a bloody sage one.

Tried a few Asian supermarkets nearby and did see dill so maybe try them if you're missing it. I hate dill so happy to swerve that.

No chocolate oranges to be had anywhere.
it's the only thing dd (12) cares about having in her stocking, and it's her last year believing in Santa (she keeps dropping questions), so I'm panicking a bit. DH managed to get a couple of packets of the segments, so hope that will work.

And I've got nothing for dh's stocking present.

Oxygen.

The private company the Tories commissioned to take over oxygen delivery for the NHS have decided they are going to close over the holiday period leaving my partner without any way to actually breathe the next few days.

Instead of wrapping presents and relaxing I now have to spend this weekend on the phone to various emergency lines trying to find a workable solution to keep my partner alive so a private company can save some cash not paying overtime for bank holidays.

Fuck the bastard tories

Cheese and cheese is absolutely better than gf biscuits.
I couldnt get a turkey crown, well apart from a huge one from the butchers. There’s only 4 of us so it’s a big chicken for us.

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 23/12/2023 18:55

Greekgreens · 23/12/2023 15:25

Only small chickens left in Sainsbury’s yesterday so I had to walk to Waitrose who had plenty of all sizes. A small wouldn’t have fed six no matter how hard I tired.

Come on, this is Mumsnet. Of course it would feed six of you plus left overs for sarnies the day!! 😅

coldcallerbaiter · 23/12/2023 19:00

Toilet roll

PleaseBePacific · 23/12/2023 19:03

Potatoes... seriously. Will be on the hunt again tomorrow

KnottyKnitting · 23/12/2023 19:10

Cheese board and crackers which was on my order when I finalised it a few weeks ago and was on it yesterday when I did the final bit but disappeared from the list somehow and didn't arrive.

Bit fed up with Tesco- just had my shopping delivered. 7 subs and one unavailable which was bloody potatoes- I put down for a sub if the particular one I wanted wasn't available but the driver said there wasn't a single potato in the enormous Tesco branch where the deliveries come from. Oh and he nearly drove off with all my Christmas meat which was hiding in the back of the van! Disaster averted because I chased after him down the path back to his van!

DrCoconut · 23/12/2023 19:13

Nowhere has gluten free pastry 😫 I'm not too good at making it from scratch. Tesco didn't have almond essence either and I was not braving another supermarket after getting away from there, the traffic and car park were awful.

Couch25k · 23/12/2023 19:17

Add a tiny bit of sugar then whip….. turns out perfectly

shoofly · 23/12/2023 19:19

Tesco shop delivered between 6 &7pm. Loaf missing and no substitution but there's a back up one in the freezer. No prawn cocktail and no substitution but it's fine, only I like them anyway and plenty of smoked salmon
I knew this around 11am because they send a note in the app when they've picked it which tells you what's missing and what's been substituted. I think it's really useful. I went to pick-up meat order this afternoon from the butchers so I could've gone looking for anything missing if I'd been bothered.

OhChristmassTree · 23/12/2023 19:28

My dd's main present 😭
Ordered at the beginning of December and still not turned up. The delivery date on the tracking kept changing every day.
Now it's saying the 27th of November.

She's 13 so will understand when I explain but she will be really disappointed, she's been saying how much she can't wait to get it Sad

Cwtshcwtsh · 23/12/2023 19:35

According to DH Christmas is ruined because I didn’t get a bar of Wholenut. Never mind the posh boxes of chocolates, biscuits, sweets, cakes… no, he wants Wholenut. And he’s generally the biggest foodie I know.

DeathStarCanteenGal · 23/12/2023 19:36

two more shops, still no digestive biscuits. seriously people, who is buying them???
but got some biscoff biscuits, which should work...
also can't find potato croquettes, which could be an issue as once DBro stormed out of christmas dinner when there were none...
he is 20 years older and a bit mellower now, which might be just as well given we picked percy pig potato faces as an alternative, given we were in M&S 😂
if I'm feeling like a nice sister I might make some home made croquettes just for him...
