I am thinking early morning of Sat 23rd? is that too late?

We have orders from various farm shops to be collected on Friday, then will do a quick sprint round Lidl afterwards to get anything that we couldn't source or might have missed.

Mindovermatter247 · 19/12/2023 17:54

We have our meats, and meat trimmings. Just need the veg which we are getting Friday or saturday, mum works for a supermarket so we get discount and will use our loyalty points.
going to M&S, Aldi and asda tomorrow for picky bits for Boxing Day.

Gowlett · 19/12/2023 18:00

23rd is the busiest day for supermarkets. Especially being a Saturday this year. Lots of folk only finishing work on Friday. I’m picking up stuff as I go, as I work near a big supermarket.

Gowlett · 19/12/2023 18:06

Got carrots, parsnips & sprouts today. They’ll be grand.

EasternStandard · 19/12/2023 18:08

I deliberated over Friday or Saturday with bread pick up on Sunday

I’ve done a Friday evening Ocado, will do a Sainsbury’s run on Saturday and deli on Sunday

avocadotofu · 19/12/2023 18:19

We have a Christmas Eve Waitrose delivery booked. I'm a bit worried that lots will be out of stock.

Why are people insisting that supermarkets are all closed on Sunday? They're open round my way and I imagine most ways- no way are they closing on Christmas Eve. Perhaps if you live somewhere remote, but not in the main.

i have no idea… unless they mistakenly think Christmas Day is Sunday (rather than Monday).

I have just ordered an Amazon fresh delivery for Friday morning. They don’t have any cranberries in stock so I’ll have to pick some up in M&S when I wander in to brave the crowds and find myself a turkey and some GF pigs in blankets.

Good point. Just checked ours is open

WellThatWasUnfortunate · 19/12/2023 19:58

@LonelynSad om unsure where you are but my local Asda and Tesco are open 10-4 Xmas eve. We don’t have a Sainsbury’s so don’t know about it

housethatbuiltme · 19/12/2023 20:13

I'm doing the main bit tomorrow... any fresh bits that wont last that long will probably be grabbed on sat/sun.

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 19/12/2023 20:21

Small shop for fresh veg and couple of other bits Friday morning 11am which is when my aldi is fully restocked by.

I have all the key elements in the freezer already

I'm not. The shops are shut for two days.

There's always one. Personally I don't want to be having to go out and do a shop over the festive period when I have plans and want to chill out. People host over this time of year too so need extra food, that's not hard to understand?? Hope you have a joyful Christmas....

I'll be going on Thursday evening we aren't doing Christmas lunch at home but I'll get some things to take for it. Plus we are having family over at a few other points. Then I'll drive up to Waitrose in the next town on Saturday evening for extras. (I miss London and one on each corner)

barbieofswanlake · 19/12/2023 20:25

I did mine today. Have everything I need, two more days of work then hoping to chill x

KnowThyself · 19/12/2023 20:27

I have everything except the Turkey, lamb, Stilton and sausage meat. I’m getting them tomorrow. Was going to get everything today but ran out of time buying last few gifts.

Pushkinini · 19/12/2023 20:34

I'm doing mine early doors on Saturday. Am working up until then and cba to do it after work so I will be in Aldi for 7.30 and then Tesco for the bits I can't get in there.

People who post this stuff know all that.

But they enjoy feeling smug and virtuous by criticising it on the basis that the shops are only shut for a day.

tchotchke · 19/12/2023 20:55

My shopping is coming Friday lunchtime. I’ll collect the preordered leg of lamb from the butcher on Saturday.

Tarkan · 19/12/2023 21:18

Our Morrisons, Tesco and Lidl are all open until 6pm on Christmas Eve and Asda until 7pm. There are loads of convenience stores that are likely to be open later too, our local large one is until 10pm every day and they don't tend to change for any holidays, it's often been quite handy on New Year's Day if I need something for a hangover. MrsDilligaf · 19/12/2023 21:29

All done apart from a Cauliflower, broccoli and cranberries.

Will pick them up tomorrow.
