I am thinking early morning of Sat 23rd? is that too late?

I have a click and collect slot booked for 23rd. Will go and pick up the joints of meat maybe Thursday though to make sure I have those sorted.

Shops are open till late ish on Sunday so that's when I'll be popping out and looking for the reduced cheap bargains.

I'm not doing a BIG food shop though as it's just the 3 of us and we don't do a traditional turkey dinner and pudding.

Are they? Surely it's normal Sunday hours?

readingmakesmehappy · 18/12/2023 16:30

23rd is busiest grocery shopping day of the year, so I would go v early if you're planning it for then

evtheria · 18/12/2023 16:30

Tesco delivery Friday mid morning, then I'll pick up missing or fresh items after that - maybe Sat/Sun if I'm brave enough!

Natsku · 18/12/2023 16:31

Already did it on Saturday though I still have a few bits to get which I'll probably do Friday, or maybe Saturday

Decafflatteplease · 18/12/2023 16:33

Online shop is coming 22nd, picking up meat from butchers on 23rd and also got a cheeseboard being delivered on 23rd.

Gettingbysomehow · 18/12/2023 16:34

I'm not. The shops are shut for two days.

MaggieFS · 18/12/2023 16:35

Non perishables were all delivered last week.

Everything but the fruit and veg we want to select ourselves will be delivered on Wednesday.

DH will do a fruit & veg shop on Friday morning.

I'm guessing the shops will be horribly busy this weekend (although spread over two days so perhaps not too bad?) so we plan to avoid them!

TheChosenTwo · 18/12/2023 16:43

Delivery is coming on Friday, I can go out and get any missing bits the same day, dh will pick up the meat on Saturday from the butchers.

EarringsandLipstick · 18/12/2023 16:53

'Big' shop Wednesday evening, top up for fresh items Sunday morning (7 a.m. when I collect my turkey & ham).

However, it won't be significantly bigger, bar the turkey & ham, than my usual weekly shop - it's just me & 3 DC, and we'll be back getting milk etc by 27th so there's no need for any massive purchases.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 18/12/2023 17:02

I’m not, not really anyway.

i have a general shop coming tomorrow and have put a Gammon in it, I will nip to our local Aldi after the school run on either Thursday or Friday, if there is a better meat option I will get it, if not we will have the gammon. Veg & berries will grab when I go to Aldi, if no fresh berries I have a bag of frozen berries I will do a compote with. Everything else we have. I bought sauces, crackers and other cupboard foods weeks ago. Even my Bailey’s pouring cream I managed to get last week with a January date on it.

My DCs aren’t fussed with festive foods and snacks so it’s just are usual basics over Christmas.

Worse case scenario coop usually has something.

JoyeuxNarwhal · 18/12/2023 17:04

Dh always goes on a Saturday morning anyway. He just may go a little earlier as the rest of the world will likely be there too!

suicune · 18/12/2023 17:07

Friday morning for the main “Christmas shop” although I will pick up bits and pieces throughout the week when I’m out and about.

The turkey will be collected on Christmas Eve morning from the butcher.

InefficientProcess · 18/12/2023 17:11

I’ll brave M&S on the 22nd for turkey and fancy trimmings. maybe the 23rd. I’ve already got cheese. I will get all the ordinary bits delivered via Amazon.

There aren’t many of us, and I don’t want to end up wasting loads of food.

Gettingbysomehow · 18/12/2023 16:34

I'm not. The shops are shut for two days.

Tesco Express is usually open Boxing Day.

EverythingLouderThanEverythingElse · 18/12/2023 17:19

I did it this morning but I've been buying a bit extra each week since November so it's not too painful. I live a mile from a huge supermarket and the nearby roads will be jammed later this week, plus it's not uncommon for it to take an hour or more just to exit the car park. On Thursday or Friday I will walk up for fresh veg and salad stuff. The BB dates were pretty good today and I'm used to lifting up crates or rooting at the back of the fridges for the newer stock.

Gettingbysomehow · 18/12/2023 16:34

I'm not. The shops are shut for two days.

It’s not about the shops being shut but more that I have guests coming and don’t want to have to go out food shopping - I like to have everything we need and so can enjoy myself/have a drink.

Main dishes for Xmas dinner have already been delivered and are in the freezer, fridge or larder.
Will pop out for veg and other fresh bits on Friday or Sunday. There are no 'must haves' so I will just choose from what's available.

I don't ever do a 'big shop'.

KissTheRains · 18/12/2023 17:24

It got delivered this morning.

It's just me and DD though so it wasn't the big shop others do.

Gammon, crackers, veg, puddings, chocolates, everything.

No hassle with shops for me 😁

SFG112112 · 18/12/2023 17:24

Tonight 😬 there is no real need to as we don't need anything IMO, but DH wants to use a Lidl voucher and browse 😬 pass the fucking wine I say. I hate in person Christmas shopping and try to avoid it at all costs.

UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter · 18/12/2023 17:27

I work in a supermarket and will be at work Saturday morning. They are producing that will be the busiest day. I finish at 1pm then need to catch the bus into town to finish my present shopping.

we are open as normal on Sunday 10-4. This is a town in the south east. Christmas Eve is usually much quieter than the other days.

we are not home for Christmas but need to get a normal food shop plus desserts for Christmas Day to take to parents so will go Friday. Not risking leaving it until Friday. My mum would go berserk if we failed to get Christmas Day desserts. Can’t be normal profiteroles or cheesecake has to have something Christmassy on. I’m already in the dog house for not being able to get the Sainsbury’s chocolate Christmas village.

AnnaMagnani · 18/12/2023 17:27

Already done!

Just need to get some veg and dairy stuff which I'll hopefully do on Friday in my lunch break.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 18/12/2023 17:30

Probably going to get most salad, fruit and veg over the next couple of days, stick some chicken in the freezer and then there's a delivery coming at stupid o'clock Christmas Eve that'll have the things that would be nice to have (GF stuff, the intended meat, gelato, more good quality olive oil as I'm sick of bloody olivio shite).

On the way back from getting the veg, DP will remember that he wants pickles and I'll get another bunch of jars of olives, artichokes, pickled garlic and that sort of thing.

Wendysfriend · 18/12/2023 17:31

I use to do one big shop, it's fuckin crazy with 7 people 😂 so I now spread it out over the month of December and last 2 weeks in Nov, I buy bits each week and on the last shop in December I but all the fresh and frozen. It means probably 50 quid extra each week and I don't really feel it .

gingercat02 · 18/12/2023 17:33

Main shop ordered for Saturday. I'm doing a Waitrose treats shop on Wednesday and the cheese shop on Friday. DH will sort the drinks.
