I am thinking early morning of Sat 23rd? is that too late?

All sorted with online deliveries, I cba to fight around jammed supermarkets. It’s only 2 days and I’m sure no one will starve.

Hatty65 · 18/12/2023 17:38

I'm probably going to go Friday, because I'm off work - in the vague and uncharitable hope that others will be working and it won't be as hideously busy as the weekend is likely to be.

maddiemookins16mum · 18/12/2023 17:58

Thursday evening. Any last bits I’ll get from the Coop on Sunday am.

Doseofreality · 18/12/2023 18:00

I went to a huge M&S food hall near me today, in the insane hope that I could get ahead and pick some bits up.
No chance, everything was dated the 19th or 20th.
i did get some bacon, cheese, crisps and Christmas cupcakes though.

reluctantbrit · 18/12/2023 18:05

Friday and some bread on Sunday morning on the way to DD's riding lesson.

That leaves Saturday for finding items suddenly out of stock.

But it's just the three of us, so just a bit fancier roast and no need to prepare for amageddon.

mumguilt999 · 18/12/2023 18:07

I have a delivery coming the morning of the 23rd so if anything necessary is out of stock I can pick it up locally on Christmas Eve. I don't intend to be near a shop until the new year if I can help it, DH usually goes on a snack/drink run for NYE

longtompot · 18/12/2023 18:27

Mines being delivered Friday, but we are going to go and choose the turkey crown and the beef joint ourselves as I don't trust the pickers to pick a decent sized piece (have had previous experience or teeny tiny joints that would only feed two). We have already bought the drinks, booze and soft. Anything that doesn't come we can always pop out for.

MrsCarson · 18/12/2023 18:30

Things with long enough dates I bought last week with the weekly shop. I still need fresh veg and some salad. But I'm working two long days on Saturday and Sunday. So hoping my elderly mother will be able to get said bits in Coop by her on Saturday.
I've an appointment and baking to do Friday so chances are won't get out at all.

Oppositioblue · 18/12/2023 18:33

Tesco delivery on Saturday afternoon. Marks and Spencer collection Saturday morning.

caringcarer · 18/12/2023 18:34

@Coconutter24, I'm assuming to give staff a Xmas break. There is a Christmas Opening outside our Sainsbury's and it says Sunday 24th closed.

ladygindiva · 18/12/2023 19:05

Delivery Wednesday

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 18/12/2023 19:20

I've nearly everything bought, just the veg to get. I'm lucky I live near a farm that works as part of a cooperative and they sell locally grown vegetables as well as local dairy products and also beef and pork. He also stocks coal and wood which is really handy. He doesn't charge a fortune either. So I'll head there on Friday, stock up on what we need and then hunker down for the holiday! 😁

I used to work for Sainsbury’s and for the whole time I was there they never closed on Christmas Eve. I always used to wish they did haha. Just checked my local and it’s open wonder if it’s just certain stores

Mercury2702 · 18/12/2023 19:31

I’ve already had a food delivery with non perishables like drinks, cakes, freezer stuff, Pringles and will just go a few days before for the stuff that won’t last that long. I hate this time of year for shopping

Chewbecca · 18/12/2023 19:32

Friday, lunchtime ish. Leaving the weekend to frantically locate any missing items.

InefficientProcess · 18/12/2023 19:36

According to the metro (so take it with that caveat upfront). Sainsbury’s stores will be open 11-5 on Christmas Eve, but closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Asda will be open on Boxing Day apparently. The metro definitely has the Christmas Eve hours wrong for England - there’s no way Asda is open 6am-7pm on a Sunday in England.

I don’t imagine any of the supermarkets are closed on Sunday.

QueSyrahSyrah · 18/12/2023 19:38

We don't need tons as we're not hosting anything but we did non-perishable yesterday and will grab the last few perishable bits maybe Friday.

elliesmummy19 · 18/12/2023 19:47

I can’t decide. I have plans Thursday morning into the afternoon. Thought I might do it after that but then the veg won’t keep. Husband isn’t working Friday so I might do it then (he can do school runs). I feel like Saturday might be too late and busy.

Probably Friday.

HeyMicky · 18/12/2023 19:47

Very early Saturday morning. We have a 24 hour Tesco so I'll be there about 6am. Not buying drinks from there so no issues with the check out that early

Tarkan · 18/12/2023 20:27

The main meat has already been bought fresh and put in the freezer. I'm just home from a quick shop of things I can start prepping now (things that will keep) and the bigger shop is being done on Wednesday for everything else.

Then if there's anything we can't get on Wednesday we have time to brave somewhere at the weekend.

LonelynSad · 18/12/2023 20:30

LifeonMarsnotVenus · 18/12/2023 15:30

Shops are open till late ish on Sunday so that's when I'll be popping out and looking for the reduced cheap bargains.

I'm not doing a BIG food shop though as it's just the 3 of us and we don't do a traditional turkey dinner and pudding.

Supermarkets are closed this Sunday

PartnersInCrime · 18/12/2023 20:36

Early Saturday I think. Have the long life items already, so just meat, veg, milk and pastries to get

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 18/12/2023 20:42

@LonelynSad not sure where you are but they aren't closed on Sunday in most places

Most are also reopen on Tuesday.

We fortunately aren't in need of a food shop. We have done our normal food shop tonight and as we are elsewhere for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day that's us done (bar a small food collection on Saturday afternoon) unless one of the families put in a request for something we need to pick up .

emmetgirl · 18/12/2023 20:49

I'm not. My only day off is Xmas day. I'm working every day other than that. Going out to dinner Xmas day.
I own a restaurant btw.

ErnestCelendine · 18/12/2023 20:55

I'm playing turkey bingo and trying to get the sweet spot of there being some left and them also being reduced in price!
