Being delivered Saturday.
I do the same EVERY year though, the shops start sending their emails about booking Xmas slots in November. I think to myself "no need to rush, I'm not hosting" (I never do, my house isn't big enough and I hate cooking). It then gets to a couple of weeks into December and I realise that while I don't need extra food to feed guests, I do actually still need my normal week's shop, so have to go looking for somewhere that still has slots!
Morrisons came through this year, thankfully.

Whatever you do, do not edit your shop a few days before! Morrisons are terrible for not telling their website when something goes out of stock. Second only to Asda on the crap-stock-level stakes. If you edit prior to delivery, you no longer have stock reserved of what you've ordered and are then at the mercy of whatever is in stock on the day. I learnt this lesson once and on Christmas Eve was delivered one back of shopping from a £170 order. I had to rush out to the supermarket 10 mins before they all closed. I was fuuuuuming

Heyhoherewegoagain · 18/12/2023 21:06

I’m away on holiday till Thursday, and I’m working lateshift, finishing at 2am on Saturday and Sunday so I guess I’ll be doing it on Friday 😂

LonelynSad · 18/12/2023 21:08

@Natsku Ew not fresh stuff already surely ?

lucysmam · 18/12/2023 21:17

Tesco delivery's booked for Weds evening. We'll head to the market at the weekend for veg and maybe some cheese once I work out where to squeeze it in.

Harrysmummy246 · 18/12/2023 21:21

Delivery is thurs but we're at my parents' house for 25th and I work in a farm shop so will grab a couple of other bits too

Vicliz24 · 18/12/2023 21:23

I've done mine this evening. Only chipolatas and pork pie and veg to get which I will get on Friday from the market.

Zampa · 18/12/2023 21:23

Natsku · 18/12/2023 16:31

Already did it on Saturday though I still have a few bits to get which I'll probably do Friday, or maybe Saturday

I've done mine too (Monday). A few things have gone into the freezer but most things have a BBD of 26/12. In fact, we're using last year's Christmas pudding (BBD March 2024).

I'll get some English muffins and a papaya over the weekend but there's just because I forgot them yesterday.

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 18/12/2023 21:26

Done half of it already, the long dated stuff. The shorter dated stuff will be picked up on Thursday (butchers & supermarket).

SkankingWombat · 18/12/2023 21:28

Friday for all the fresh stuff. The turkey is due to be delivered on Saturday. Everything else has been bought over previous weeks.

We will also pop into a supermarket close to closing on 24th as we'll be passing anyway to see what has been heavily reduced, but that will be all optional extras or things for the freezer.

WashItTomorrow · 18/12/2023 21:30

We don’t do a big food shop. I’m working Saturday and Sunday, so DH will buy what’s needed. He always goes to the supermarket in person.

Bobsledgirl · 18/12/2023 21:37

My milkman bringing a veg box, cream and milk obviously on Friday. Turkey ordered to pick up Saturday. Pudding bought weeks ago. Bottle of wine to get. Jobs a good un.

there’s only 4 of us, one veggie. I don’t spend a fortune.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 18/12/2023 21:46

We don't have a big shop as such. Picked up all the non-perishable stuff and booze at the weekend. Turkey being collected on Friday along with cheese, and DH is off to shop for the veg on Thursday night.

I'd feel smug, but nothing is wrapped, various things need cooked/baked/prepped at the weekend and I'm bound to need to go to a supermarket at around 3pm Christmas Eve for something vital that we've forgotten!

Zevitevitchofcrimas · 18/12/2023 21:56

@Lilithlogic

Have you had it before the game pie.
Last year I had one and it was inedible.

We ve gone for the turkey and cranberry one

Zevitevitchofcrimas · 18/12/2023 21:58

We need roast pots, gravy to add too, pudding, soft drinks, Cheese biscuits, some more cheese.

SeaToSki · 18/12/2023 22:20

We are very rural for Christmas so the shops here dont have lots of variety. I brought a load of specialty stuff with me and the turkey is in the freezer (have to take it out on Thurs to defrost in the fridge) then its judging when to do that last run for milk, bread (nice to have lovely fresh bread for turkey sandwiches on Boxing day) and the veg. Im thinking of going early-ish on Christmas Eve, getting a nice coffee and a pastry and feeling Christmassy.

mondaytosunday · 18/12/2023 22:45

Im in the US for Christmas and we did about two thirds shop today (couldn't locate the parsnips or cranberry sauce). But I tell you it was $$$$$$! At least a third more than UK! We will still need to do more shopping but have broken the back of it (8 adults one child).

Titsywoo · 18/12/2023 22:45

I'm not really as not hosting. I'll get cheese on Friday for evening cheeseboard and any other bits I need for normal food through to Wednesday.

Natsku · 19/12/2023 04:16

LonelynSad · 18/12/2023 21:08

@Natsku Ew not fresh stuff already surely ?

Our Christmas meal doesn't really use much in the way of fresh stuff. The ham is good until January so no need to wait on that, the salted and smoked salmons are good until a few days after Christmas at least, potatoes don't rot in a week. Only things I need fresh are milk and cream and salad and then the bits I forgot to get already.

LaSpuddle · 19/12/2023 06:38

I think Friday. Dd has a friend coming round so my options are either first thing or late afternoon. I’m thinking first thing will be less busy…

Already bought lots of stuff but my list is still surprisingly long…

Hosting 23rd-1st so want to be as prepared as possible and only have to pop out for a few fresh bits not have to do a big shop while we have guests.

SFG112112 · 19/12/2023 08:41

SFG112112 · 18/12/2023 17:24

Tonight 😬 there is no real need to as we don't need anything IMO, but DH wants to use a Lidl voucher and browse 😬 pass the fucking wine I say. I hate in person Christmas shopping and try to avoid it at all costs.

It wasn't as bad as I'd feared. There were very few people in the shop, we got most things we needed, DH "browsed" and we were out within around 45 minutes. Going when we did was the right thing to do.

CheersToMe · 19/12/2023 13:04

Popped into Aldi this morning and it was heaving with folk rummaging for stuff with long dates.
Got the recommended veggie no-pigs-in-blankets and a big gammon, alongside regular stuff for the week.

catwithflowers · 19/12/2023 13:11

Friday morning. 😳. Tesco will be chaos

FrillyGoatFluff · 19/12/2023 13:17

I've just done mine.

Carrots, parsnips, Brussels, potatoes will be fine until. Monday. I'm going to make the cauli cheese today and wang it in the freezer (we're having beef, which is already in the freezer, along with about a million pigs in blankets.

All the party food for Boxing Day is freezable, so that's in there too. Cheese drawer is about to explode, but I have issued stern warnings to not touch it - if it runs down, the option is to replace from the perilously expensive deli at their own cost, so they've been warned.

I'll go to the Tesco petrol station next door for cream etc on Saturday, will need to top up milk and bread anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

We've eaten our freezer stock for a fortnight in preparation for this plan! I feel calm!

sweetpickle23 · 19/12/2023 13:39

Why are people insisting that supermarkets are all closed on Sunday? They're open round my way and I imagine most ways- no way are they closing on Christmas Eve. Perhaps if you live somewhere remote, but not in the main.

endlesscraziness · 19/12/2023 14:04

I been brave or stupid and have a delivery coming 09:00 on Christmas Eve. Though I do have our Christmas dinner to collect from M&S Friday as there's only 3 of us this year and I'm lazy. The Christmas Eve shop though is in part to host 17 on Boxing Day so could spell disaster Grin
